Help finding Ear Nose and Throat Skydiver

Recommended Posts

Does anyone remember an article in either Parachutist or Skydiving several years ago that was written by an ENT who was also a skydiver? The article talked about the risks of jumping with head and sinus congestion. I am trying to get in contact with this doctor. Any ideas?

I beleive it was last year. Because I started having problems about that time and reread it a couple of times. I can't locate my copy though. Contact USPA they should be able to help you. BTW love the show

Most likely the same problems as SCUBA diving with sinus problems. Where going up to altitude then descending if you have a blockage getting sinus squeeze (witch hurts like hell) or having a blockage during accent and there is no release of pressure. (Hurts like hell as well) Also a blockage may prevent from being able to effectively equalize ear pressure causing ear squeeze.

I worked with Dr Holt briefly last year as part of an ENT rotation. He's a good doctor, and what he has to say about ears and sinuses in the article (and in general) is definitely spot on.

and from now on, whenever I say "trust me, I'm a doctor," I'm not kidding!
