Pure communism doesn't work. Pure capitalism doesn't work. Pure socialism doesn't work.

How do you know? Has pure anything ever actually been created and used?

FWIW, I do think that pure communism works very well--in extremely small groups, like nuclear families.

And I'll add that socialism works well in small communities, provided there is competition involved, which isn't a factor in a large-scale environment.

If a city is inefficient in providing services it will have to raise taxes - in which case people can move to nearby cities that have lower taxes. The city must compete with surrounding cities to maintain it's tax source.

If the majority of government is done at the state and federal level, this aspect of competition is lost, as people can't easily move to a different state or country without making a major change in their lives.

It also provides more accountability for politicians and government officials, as it's alot easier to access local people than it is to fly to Washington.

"Buy a Linux-box and enjoy spending the rest of your life making it user-friendly."

I find it incredibly difficult to believe one can look at the newest versions of ubuntu and declare it less user friendly than Vista.

I just set up an ubuntu box at work yesterday.

What would have taken me 10 minutes in windows took me nearly 3 hours in Ubuntu to get working.

On one hand, if I knew linux better it would have been easier. On the other hand, if people want linux to be competitive with windows they're going to have to make it easy to transition to.

Youch! Experiences indicate otherwise, apparently.

Hey, if someone had a viable alternative to Windows Vista or the other crap operating systems that MS is going to be putting on the market, I just might switch over. This could be increasingly likely, depending on how persistent MS is in releasing faulty software.

edit:

I would like to note, however, I find other MS products to be highly useful. MS World, Powerpoint, Excel, and pretty much MS Office are great products. They are great in the same way that Adobe Photoshop is a great product. They must have different people writing those products than the people who write newer versions of windows.
