Skydive Atlanta CASA boogie info and stuff...

Recommended Posts

Hello from Skydive Atlanta!
Hope everyone is adjusted back to work after the long weekend. But,
hey, the weekend is just around the corner.
If you have not seen it yet, check out the new website-
http://SkydiveAtlanta.com
We had a most excellent weekend at SA. Nemesis was training all
weekend and we had a great student load.

This weekend we will be doing some canopy clinics for newer jumpers.
This will involve some Super Cheap Hop n Pops and demonstrations. It
will include basics as well as more advanced techniques. If you want
to improve your basic knowledge, this will help. We'll hold one on
Saturday and one on Sunday. Email us if you are interested.

By the way, from now on you can go to
- http://www.skydiveatlanta.com/html/exp_jumpers_main.php -to get up
to date info on this weekend and other weekend happenings. We will be
regularly updating our event calendar and special items will be
included in the news ticker at the top of the page.
CASA BOOGIE- June 7-9
Don't forget about the Anniversary Festival next weekend June 7,8,9!
We will have a CASA here on Friday the 7th at noon. There will be food
and a party with DJ's on Saturday night. There will be free freefly
and bellyfly organizing all weekend. Check the news ticker on our web
site for updates on the HOT AIR Balloon schedule. Most of the morning
slots are full but the afternoon will be first come first serve.

Safety tip of the week-------------------------------------------------------

Always be mindful of the condition of the gear you are jumping. We had
a cutaway this weekend due to poor Velcro condition. Ask these
questions:

Is the Velcro on my toggles sticky or do they fall off?
Are the Keepers for my vecroless toggles torn or frayed?
Is my closing loop worn out or frayed?
Are my 3 rings in good condition?
When released from the cable do they come apart easily with minimal
pressure?
What kind of condition are my lines in?

It is important to use the time while packing to also inspect your
gear. Although today's gear is made to last several thousand jumps, it
still needs maintenance and attention. Brake lines should be checked
for twists regularly. Twists will distort the flight characteristics
of your canopy and increase the chance for line twists and
malfunctions. Look for fraying or damage as you "run" the lines up
during a pack. Replace your closing loop when it gets old and worn.
Replace old rubber bands. Check the grommets on your bag and your
container for nicks that could cut lines. Check for loose grommets
that could snag lines.
It takes very little time to look at these items. For that matter, if
you see someone with these issues, let them know. You might be
bringing their attention to something they've overlooked.

See you this weekend!
