goblin 0 #1 October 4, 2008 After having owned a Pro-Track for sometime now i've thought about buying the Jump-Track software to log my jump but i'm just too tight to part with the cash for it. Does anyone else feel this way and feel they're being overcharged for something that should be included with the Pro-Track??? Anyone know of any alternatives that work with the Pro-Track that are cheaper?
mrwrong 0 #2 October 4, 2008 Just a question... This "Pro-Jump" s/w you are referring to is it the "Jump-Track"?“The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once! Does anyone else feel this way and feel they're being overcharged for something that should be included with the Pro-Track??? I thought about developing an application for linux, and contacted L&B about writing one. They thought it was a great idea, and happily sent me the specs. This was a few years ago, and I've since gone into networking rather than development, so my skills dropped, and the project fizzled. I don't feel I've been overcharged for anything from L&B. Read the forums, and their customer service is fantastic, and if they need to get a little income by selling the jumptrack software only to those who want it, then I'm okay with that. Actually, I believe you can download the software for free. You're paying for the cables you need to connect the device to the computer. I suspect that the device has a standard USB or RS-232 interface built into it and the cable is nothing more than a non-standard plug with non-standard wiring so you are forced to buy the cable from L&B, but that said, if you really feel that the price being charged is too high for the value you will get, then don't buy it. Perhaps try a Neptune instead. Don't they use a standard IrDA port for PC connectivity? Alternatively, grab yourself a multimeter and a signal analyzer and build your own cables, but how much is your time worth?
goblin 0 #6 October 4, 2008 Yeah i know, L+B have got the best customer service i've ever seen or known about. i think i'm just having a moaning day cos the weather's bad and i can't jump! And pen and paper is definatly the way forward...
mrwrong 0 #7 October 4, 2008 Actually if I'm not missinformed the cradle used for downloading Pro-Track data contains a conversion chip of some sort and the IR transmission from the Pro-Track is not standard so the IR receiver on a laptop can't receive the data. And that's why the L&B cable is needed. When it comes to pricing from L&B I personally think they are NOT over charging for any of the products they have on the market. Plus they have the most outstanding servicelevel I have ever seen. In other words they are worth every €/$/£ (or any other currency)!!!!“The sum of intelligence on the planet is a constant; the population is growing.” - George Bernard Shaw He who dies with the most toys, wins..... dudeist skydiver # 19515 Buy quality and cry once! Armour666 0 #9 October 6, 2008 QuoteParalog I think works with the Pro-track I believe, look it up online. It does but you sill are paying for the sotware and need to buy the cable. Both o those software I feel are worth the cost and perform well. The one thing I do like about the new jump track is it is MDB so if you know any datbase stuff you can great your own reports right out of the database with out the software.SO this one time at band camp..... danielcroft 2 #10 October 7, 2008 Drawback being that it's an MDB.
