hottamaly 1 #1 December 13, 2005 I'm sorry to bother you guys from your regularly schedualed program but I need some help. I'm on a gatway computer with windows XP home edition on DSL and I keep getting this RED circle with a White hand in it when I go to click on things. I know to press the "control" button to let it let me in but it won't let me access PDF files (says page not found). I've tried turning off my windows firewall and that didn't make it go away or give me access. HELP.... Thanks in advance. mmytacism 0 #2 December 13, 2005 Can you be a bit more specific? When you say you "go to click on things," do you mean in your web browser? Do you have a pop-up blocker installed? Some pop-up blockers show a red circle & white hand when they block access to a link.
hottamaly 1 #3 December 13, 2005 When I try to click on attachments here in the forums and on other web sites. I disabled my pop up blocker as well. SkiD_PL8 0 #4 December 13, 2005 If you are using IE or firefox and you are getting that I would say it is a popup blocker. A firewall would not display that cursor, neither will firefox or IE. Greenie in training.
hottamaly 1 #5 December 13, 2005 Yes, I am using IE. Firefox was recommended to me but I haven't tried it out yet. This hand just appeared on day and I'm sick of it. mmytacism 0 #6 December 13, 2005 Okay, definitely sounds like a pop-up blocker to me... Which pop-up blocker do you use (even though you said you disabled it)? Have you checked for spyware recently? Since you're using IE, it's quite possible that you inadvertently downloaded an unwanted toolbar that came with its own pop-up blocker.
hottamaly 1 #7 December 14, 2005 I use anti spy ware but that's a good idea about another popup blocker being installed. I went to "tools" and assume that is the one for IE and that is turned off, I'll look to see if there is another one going on. Thanks. TrophyHusband 0 #8 December 14, 2005 i've had the same thing happen to me. it only happens on my laptop while on my wireless net. it is always caused when the connection is lost. some web pages will still display but i think they are already on the computer. hottamaly 1 #9 December 14, 2005 Well, the good news is that I found the other pop up blocker and added the site (boneheads) to the list and the hand is gone. But, when I try to access the "forms" it still says page not found and when I go to another computer, it works fine. Damn I hate these things cuz I know nothing (enough) about them. mmytacism 0 #10 December 14, 2005 If IE downloaded a pop-up blocker you didn't know about, it likely has downloaded a lot of other crap you don't know about. Check for scumware (spyware, adware, viruses) before you do anything else. Then, get Firefox and never look back. (:
