The future of reality TV?

Can't believe that this hasn't been posted yet. It's the latest idea to reward the lowest common denominator on tv. The idea being that if you are so gullible that you fail to see through the gag you walk away with the money.

In short Channel 4 have set up a false space mission and trained up some volunteers to go on it (they had volunteered for a reality tv show but without knowing what it would be). Oh, and rewritten several laws of physics to fit. Funniest moments so far; the moving poem read out in Russian when they graduated the 3 week course; all about courage in the face of adversity. But translated quite well as a recipe for toad in the hole....And the mission motto.

And the format has been sold Stateside as well. Guess there must be some gullible folks over there as well?;)

I wonder just how many of these shows they film that never get on the air. Remember the previews for "Meet your new neighbors"? or something like that? ABC was going to run it last fall- a reality show about a group of ultra conservative upper middle class white folks on a cul de sac having to choose their new neighbor- the choices included a black family, a large hispanic family, a younger biker type couple with neon hair and tattoos, and a gay couple. (pretty much every stereotype out there.......) Gee, after running the promos for a few weeks, they suddenly decided the show wasn't such a good idea! Ya think?

The worst thing is- for every one they realize is "ill advised" they air 3 more that are worse!

But I still love Survivor and am oddly fascinated by The Apprentice........:$

Thats the clever bit (and I use the term loosely...), they don't go high enough and they have the famous AGG (Artificial Gravity Generator; how come NASA haven't got one of them, huh? huh?) They did have a problem letting the contestants look at the projected image of the earth when they got into "space"; they had a moth loose in the studio and were concerned about projecting a 6ft shadow of it across Europe :D
