TrophyHusband 0 #1 January 28, 2006 in preparation for cinco de mayo, i'm trying to perfect my margaritas. i've already tried a few combinations and ratios, but haven't quite hit on it yet. it could just be that the limes are shitty this time of year, but as a true athlete, i'm pushing on in the face of adversity. if you have a recipe, post it here. when this thread dies, i'll print all the recipes and try them at the next practice session and let you know what my team decides. CSpenceFLY 1 #2 January 28, 2006 What are you doing now?Do you use a mix or just lime juice? .
mfrese 0 #3 January 28, 2006 Of course, you can try the "perfect Margarita" from the man who's supposed to be the expert, Jimmy Buffett. I can attest that this is a pretty kick-ass drink, and the proportions guarantee that you'll be semi-shitfaced on two or three. My only suggestion is to replace the Cuervo with some actual tequila. Jimmy Buffett's Perfect Margarita 1. Fill shaker with broken cubed ice. 2. Squeeze TWO fresh lime wedges into shaker. 3. Savor the fresh lime aroma (AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!) 4. Add 2 oz. Cuervo 1800. 5. Sniff the cork. 6. Add 1/2 oz. of Jose Cuervo White if ya wish (white for bite!). 7. Add 1-1/4 oz. of Roses Lime Juice (accept no substitutes!). 8. Add 1/2 oz. of Bols Triple Sec (nothing but the best!). 9. Add "a splash" of Bols Orange Curacao (shh...secret ingredient). 10. Cover shaker tightly! 11. Shake vigorously. 12. Flip shaker in midair twice (three times if you're a pro). 13. Uncover shaker and savor the flavor! 14. Rim glass with Lime peel (outside only!). 15. Salt the outside only. 16. Add fresh ice. 17. Strain mixture over ice. 18. Squeeze in 1 lime wedge and toss rind over left shoulder. 19. Now kick back, turn up the tunes and enjoy!Doctor I ain't gonna die, Just write me an alibi! ---- Lemmy/Slash
kenz 0 #4 January 28, 2006 last time i checked you don't need cinco de maya as an excuse to drink some kick ass margaritas :) i'll have to consult my other half though... he can tell you what a margarita needs just by smelling it :) anyway best of luck to ya ;)"life does throw curveballs sometimes but it doesn't mean we shouldn't still swing for the homerun" ~ me
TrophyHusband 0 #5 January 28, 2006 right now i'm doing 3 parts souza white tequila, 2 parts cointreau or tripple sec, one part fresh squeezed lime juice. i bought a bottle of cointreau and a bottle of tripple sec to compare the two. cointreau is significantly more expensive than triple sec, and in this mixture is clearly the the right choice, but some recipes call for mor ingredients and different ratios, which could alter the results. i have also read different theories about white tequila verses gold tequila. i should have bought some gold. i will not make the same mistake next time. another problem is that the limes aren't the best this time of year. i'd rather not use bottled lime juice, but if someone knows of a brand that is very good, i'll try it.
