Grommet style on collapsible slider?

Hey everyone. I'm looking at purchasing a collapsible slider for a canopy that I purchased but have no idea what Para-Gear means by grommet style.

Aren't all grommets on sliders the same?

Slider grommets are available in brass or stainless steel.

Older-style sliders use Number 8 brass grommets (sometimes nickel-plated).
The only disadvantage to brass grommets is that they tend to wear out quickly when exposed to abrasive lines like Kevlar or Vectran or HMA.

The other common cause of slider grommet damage is slapping against metal (Maillon Rapide) connector links. The old cure for was soft bumpers covering the metal links. The modern solution is soft connector links (from Aerodyne, Flight Concepts, Parachutes de France, Performance Designs, Precision, etc.). Any CSPA Rigger A or American Senior Rigger can

replace worn brass grommets, but few skydivers pay enough attention to gear maintenance to notice sharp edges on grommets before they cut lines.

That is why Performance Designs shifted to - more durable - stainless steel grommets.
You need to decide on which type of grommet - before you order your slider, because hardly any riggers - outside the factory - have the massive hydraulic press to install stainless steel grommets.

Thanks Rob. I've had a call into my rigger since Saturday morning but he hasn't called back.

The lines on the canopy I have are in need of being replaced, but with the number of jumps on the canopy I have now (combined with a few repairs) I'd rather put in the newer canopy.

I did end up calling them to place my order.

They told me that PD only offers stainless steel grommets these days, so stainless steel it is!
