Tahiti- where to go

I am going to Tahiti and surrounding islands in Oct. Wondering if anybody has been and can share some inside places to go, stay, eat and visit. Thanks!

I just read an article about the advantages of cruising Tahiti as opposed to staying on land - apparently it's expensive to island hop and the service and food are more predictable and reliable on a ship.

I have been there in Papiatie (sp?) and Bora Bora.. I must admit that BoraBora was the most beautiful.. The beaches were great and the snorkeling was remarkable, but everything was very expensive.. There is a Club Med on Bora Bora and you can hang out at the bar there also..

Papiatie (sp? - still) had many more amenities but was even more expensive. I didn't think that I'd spend $13 on one beer!!! It has some more places to stay, but the city is a bit more 'business' and less recreation..

If you have the availability to move around a few hundred miles, Tonga had a lot of beautiful places and hotels and the prices were much better.

Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!!

Go to the Cook Islands, they speak english. It's not far from Tahiti 400-500 miles. The island of Aitutaki is what Bora Bora was before expensive hotels and polution.
