Military people...

Recommended Posts

Ok, so, anybody thats in the military has had this come up atleast once:

What do YOU say when people thank you for doing what you're doing... for being in the military, or depoying??

Im not the best at accepting thanks or gifts in the first place... and I have absolutely no clue what an appropriate responce is.

Well, first of all, thanks for your service!

I've been on the receiving end (former US Air Force) and now I am one of those people who will stop you and thank you.

Back in my days, and stuttering trying to find what to say, I settled on a quick phrase: "You are welcom(Sir or Mam), sleep well and dream big, it's our pleasure to protect those rights"
Y yo, pa' vivir con miedo, prefiero morir sonriendo, con el recuerdo vivo".

I almost always say, "Thank you" in return. If I know it's another vet from a previous generation, I thank them again, reason being, it's because of them that we get treated so well.

As for actual gifts, again, it's thank you. However, if you're truly uncomfortable receiving it, accept it anyway and then pass it on to someone else (like at the Fisher House).

Either way, it doesn't make it any more "routine"...and that I hope is a sign of humility on my part...
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

You are welcome to use it (but spare me the mispelled "welcom")... Thanks, I'll sleep good tonight knowing that you are taking care of us...

I wish the UK was the same> I was in the US last year and will be again in March for 4 months. I did notice a big difference over there with the attitude towards the armed forces. :)

what were you here for? and where are you going to be when you come back?
