1969912 0 #1 February 9, 2009 Last Wednesday I started feeling like I was geeting a cold. The next day it was a full-on nasty cold. Friday (unrelated) I started getting a gout attack in my right big toe. The next two nights I got little sleeep because everytim I moved or the cats walked near my foot, ZAP!, I'd be bolt upright with pain from the gout. So much for sleeping the cold off.... Just got back from the doc Indomethacin for the gout inflammation and hydrocodone for the pain and to help me sleep. Ever had gout? I get it maybe 3x/year. Michele 1 #4 February 9, 2009 Cats. Gotta love 'em. They know just where you hurt, and try to help you by realigning everything via their tiny paws. I know this first hand. And thank God for Vicodin... Hope you feel better soon! Gout sucks. CSpenceFLY 1 #6 February 9, 2009 When I feel it coming on I take massive doses of Aleve and drink lots of water. Someone suggested drinking Black cherry juice to me and it seems to work. I drink a little every day when I think about it. The last time I felt an attack coming on i drank a couple of glasses and that stopped it cold. Have you figured out what sets yours off? Things are...going...school is tough, tough, tough...cats are great, horse is wonderful...no time for anything other than the books and the hospital, though, so when I can I come and say hi; mostly lurk, though...just can't keep up with everything right now. Hope you feel better soon! ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

I've always consumed about 1 to 1.5 gal of water per day. After first getting gout I blamed attacks on the usual suspects (beer, pork, asparagus, anchovies, turkey....), but over the years it's become clear to me that certain foods don't precipitate attacks. It's possible, though, that the gnarly cold may have caused some level of dehydration. Fortunately I only get gout a couple times a year. CSpenceFLY 1 #11 February 9, 2009 Actually if I drink it every day I don't have attacks. It's when I get out of the habit that I will have a flair up.
