skydivefive 0 #1 November 27, 2004 I reciently saw an older reserve that was sized by the top skin and it was a 220 sq. ft. Are most reserves and canopies sized by top skin or bottom skin?? Thanks! It isn't what it could be, or it what it should be, it is what it is.
riggerrob 558 #2 November 28, 2004 The PIA standard measures the span across the top skin, a few inches back from the leading edge. Chord is measured from the top leading edge - in a straight line - to the tail. Sadly, few manufaturers use this method anymore. For example, P.D.'s method "sort of" matches the size of the bottom skin. Consequqently, comparing canopy sizes from different manufacturers is often like comparing apples and oranges.
