cvfd1399 0 #1 August 16, 2004 In theory.......... Can a rigger take a rig that has a huge pack tray, and take something light and firm like some type of foam and wrap it with canvas and sew it in to the pack tray? What could be done to reduce the size?
freakflyer9999 1 #2 August 16, 2004 I AM NOT A RIGGER. I have had riggers tell me that they could do this, either temporarily tacked in to try a new canopy or permanently for cheap skates who don't want to buy a new container. I've also had others tell me that they just stuffed the container with newspaper to demo a smaller canopy. The newspaper just drifts away and gives some wild critter something to read. Guess you could use bubble wrap or something else as well. KG
FrogNog 1 #3 August 16, 2004 I have heard that the manufacturer of the container/harness assembly can sew a "pillow" into the pack tray to take up the extra space. I doubt this would make the external dimensions of the rig much smaller. I don't know if a rigger could do this. -=-=-=-=- Pull.
larsrulz 0 #4 August 17, 2004 My rigger said they stuff foam and cover it with cordura, at least they used to do this. He hasn't done it in a number of years. I got a strong urge to fly, but I got no where to fly to. -PF
cvfd1399 0 #5 August 17, 2004 I was thinking this was the way one would go about such a task. It was just a discussion me and a friend was having over the subject
Swanee 0 #6 August 17, 2004 My rigger tacked a velcro closed "pouch" to the base of my pack tray. He gave me a number of sheets of high density foam that I can insert in the pocket to vary the size. Works very well, for many hundreds of jumps.
cvfd1399 0 #7 August 17, 2004 sweet thanks this might help the jumper possibly sell his larger than usual rig to someone that wants it but needs a smaller pack tray.
