(Upcoming) first-time jumper looking for TIPS :-)

Recommended Posts

Hello! My name is Terri, and I'm from central Wisconsin. I have not jumped (yet); but have always wanted to (I've parasailed and bungee-jumped, and also ride a Harley).

I have booked my very first (tandem) dive, which will take place on Nov. 4 in Las Vegas!!! :D My Hubby 'won' the trip by being one of the top 6 sales guys in the country--but, unfortunately, he will be working the SEMA show all week. So I 'had' to find other activities that will keep me out of the casinos--and thought, "I've always wanted to skydive. Sounds like a great time to do it!" B|

I am THRILLED to have found this website, so I can at least go into this somewhat educated, about what to expect, and anything I can do to make my jump better/safer/easier on my tandem partner!

If I like this first jump (and I'm quite sure I will), I am strongly considering signing up for classes and making this a new hobby! (Hubby says he's happy to come and WATCH!)

Sounds like a hell of a way to motivate the sales force, 'hey if you do well we'll throw your wife out of a plane for you' who does he work for the Cosa nostra?
:P

Have a great time and remember if you smile your face doesn't flap about so much on the video;)

Hanging out at the casinos all week will probably be cheaper than becoming a regular jumper. :) It's OK, though; Harleys usually have pretty good resale value.

Welcome!

THANKS everybody!!

I am so glad I found this website; it's really cool to read about everybodys' experiences--and it's made me even more excited to get to Vegas (one more month!) And I love the video links some people have posted--it's awesome to watch other peoples' jumps.

You're right about this being an expensive hobby; by the time it's said and done, this is going to cost upwards of $250 (including the DVD!) Hopefully, once I get back home, I can find someplace less expensive around here. (We're very rural here with a lower per capita income, so lots of things tend to be less expensive.) :P

Thanks again for the encouragement!

Terri

Check out Skydive Wissota in Chippewa Falls, WI. It's going to be the cheapest dz that you'll find pretty much anywhere and the level of training and dedication you'll get from the experienced jumpers is amazing!!!

But if you want to get started before winter, act quickly. The last two static line classes of the year are Oct 7th and 14th. (You don't have to do a tandem before you start jumping on your own. (FYI, a tandem at Wissota is $175 and video is $55) Otherwise, feel free to come and hang out anytime. We're open all year round, jumping when weather is permitting. You'll learn a ton just by being around. PM me if you want more information.

joe--good thing I got lots of 'sellable' stuff then! ;)

wild--that's AWESOME!!!! I didn't realize there was a place in Chippewa--I'm less than an hour from there! I won't be able to make it in before our Vegas trip [:/] but plan on me showing up come spring!

THANKS for posting--I will be getting in touch with you!
