It wont help you heal any faster but at least you will know there are others like you.

Thanks- that's always good to know.B|

I just happened to find the following video which proves we ducks are daredevils, but usually very careful ones - It's quite a miracle that accidents happen to us, must have been statistical irregularities?

    That was cute!

Ah, and I just found a nice pic that shows how you should address "Mr Inner Critic" if he once again tries to diss you. (It's NOT a photoshop job, just a flower, but looks hilarious!)

    Heh heh- that's funny. :D

    Very nice one, again.
I liked the Frida Kahlo Duck. I think there is a museum with a collection of "Duckitised Portraits" - it definitely would fit in there, nice work!

Thanks. At first I thought it would be a stretch to have cast Frida as the "You think YOU have problems!?" person, but I she seems to be a hit. And I had fun drawing her.

I hope you're progressing fast. Just being curious: Do the surgeons want to remove your Borg implants or are you (like me) going to become an airport metal detector trigger? Hehe hehe.

I think I have the parts for good. This should liven things up at the airport security lines. B|

As for the "I pushed the limits of landing" - it not only happens to ducks but also to swans, see pic attached. (Reads in English: My landing speed's too high! Sh*t, sh*t, sh*t!"

    Now that's funny! B|

My first thought after landing my first tandem was "Where have you been all my life?"

My thought after my first tandem was more like, "Okay, I tried it, but it's not like I'll do that again..."

A few weeks later, I did another tandem, and a few weeks after that, started AFF...

...talk about an addiction sneaking up on you! :)

I liked the line in a comment of yours, that you "pushed the definition of 'landing'". There's a sig line in something like that...

    Thanks.
Good point. That or "I didn't get married or killed" ;)

One catch: on your lists of what injuries you didn't suffer you have "laceration." Umm... yeah, you got that when the bone protruded from your arm. B|

D'oh! That's a good point, considering they stapled shut the hole it made. That being said, it was a small cut. A laceration-lite, I say. ;)

However, (in response to your p.s. above), I think you portrayed your comparative situation quite nicely. Definitely not smug! You are absolutely correct. In the realm of what could go wrong, you have the right perspective. Heal up fast! Can't wait to see you back in the sky.:)

    Thanks. :)

That's exactly what happened to me when I broke my right humerus and scapula due to premature deployment out of freeflying. The canopy opened but the lines were twisted and I reached up to the risers... WHERE'S MY RIGHT ARM? I was quite relieved it hadn't been cut off, "only" broken... I was lucky though and landed on a field so I didn't do any more harm to myself.

Again, all the best to you, speedy recovery and the best physio! B|

Weird, isn't it? I also remember feeling the "bad" arm with the good one and having it feel like it belonged to someone else. I guess we aren't wired to deal well with broken parts.
p.s. Thanks for the good wishes:)

Pull out your SIM and re-read that. Read the advanced sections that you might have not gotten to as a student.

Buy (or borrow) a copy of The Parachute & Its Pilot and read that.

Borrow a copy of the USPA IRM and read that. Not sure if you're ever interested in getting an instructional rating, but there's some interesting reading in there, either way. (That's probably one to borrow since if you do go for a rating a year or two or more from now, you'll want a current version of the book).

But most of all, focus on your rehab and getting strong & healthy because that will help you the most when you come back. B|

    Good ideas! Thanks. :)

  8. Thanks to two broken bones, I'm stuck on the sidelines for a few months (maybe more). Boo. Before my accident I did everything I could to improve my skills, including getting in several jumps each week. Now that I can't jump for awhile, is there anything constructive I can do in the meantime that would help? Obviously there's no substitute for real jumps (and I'll be hitting the tunnel once I'm cleared to do so,) but is there anything else I should or could be doing?
I know I'm not the only jumper here who had to wait out an injury or two... B|

  9. Sorry to hear about Skyler. A loving pet is a wonderful thing, and it can be so hard to lose one. You're in my thoughts.

    Hi Jen:)

    Good catch!B|
Actually I took several artistic liberties for the drawing, both to make it "read" easier and to fit the duck character into the picture. One example- the my front foot would be between my partner's feet in real life, and not way off to the side.

Ok good! The part of them trying to stand you up and then finding he busted leg had me a bit worried. Thx :)

They may have been trying to scoot me closer to the board as opposed to standing me up. A lot of the action was behind me (and I was still in Holy Geez, what have I done to my arm!? mode) so I may have botched a few details.

I thought you had hit the rear edge of the door, not the bottom/floor.

I believe it was the bottom, but it happened so fast that it may have been the rear edge and/or the corner.

did they ever spinally immobilize you? (put you on a long hard board with a collar around your neck to protect your cervical spine) from your story so far it sounds as if they didnt.

Yes, they put the collar on and had me strapped to some kind of board before they loaded me in the ambulance. I remember it being rather awkward for them because the slope I was on was rather steep.

the last part about the paramedics missing your broken leg, does kinda worries me, especially after a landing like that. . .

Interesting point about them not catching the leg right away. My guess is they focused on my arm first because that was the part I said was damaged, and they (and apparently I) weren't aware that I landed hard enough to further injure myself. I'm sure they would have caught it soon enough.
