  1. yeah but then theres the whole culture at uni.. i guess if i took a bit of advice from here i could have a limited beer fund which would in turn limit the capacity for my own (drunken, not sure i can do anything about my sober) foolishness.
  2. I usually don't drink so..... I'd probably be dead many times over by now if I did. So i should save my liver and hopefully not femur?
  3. i need a "sex for jump tickets" t shirt unless you have boobies, that shirt might not be as effective as you'd like... i hear breast enhancement surgery is at an all time high at the moment. And as for the both thing.. that means giving up food and i like food
  4. i need a "sex for jump tickets" t shirt
  5. Simple, im soon to be a student and the toss up is beer or skydiving? right now its the beer talking so i guess its judging itself but hey, semi serious question at half 1 in the morning
  6. Do not under any circumstances listen to what i say. I meant well but shouldnt have said anything. I was just trying to share my experiences as a fellow begginer. As for the glancing thing. It wasnt taught it (another reason to completely ignore me) just did it and found it much easier, talked to my instructor later and he said he thought it gave me a better idea of where i was in relation to the ground rather than the point i was looking at in front of me. I agree it has potential to go wrong. Another example of why i shouldnt of been posting, i didnt actually mean punch the toggles down but it could have been misinterpreted. Apologies again and if anyone can tell me how ill delete my earlier posts
  7. Haha, i've done that one as well. Was my 3rd (i think) jump and i was being guided in on the radio, quite a windy day. i heard "okay now arms all the way up" me being quite worried about my flare interpreted that as "flare flare flare". had to ride it out and hit the ground quite hard, luckily no damage done
  8. I havent been jumping long enough to know the answers to your questions, however i found when i was first trying to stick landings and run them off if i glanced to the side a couple of times as im coming in it gave me better perception of my height, then just punch down firmly those toggles all the way at around 10-15 ft. If your having trouble, check with your instructors, they're usually alright
  9. The only post i remember seeing of his was in the hook knife clothing removal thread so i hope thats a compliment?
  10. I can barely afford the sport i've so blatantly revolutionised, how am i meant to afford bobble heads?
  11. Isnt the whole reason we do this sport because its exciting? i think i've just revolutionised skydiving
  12. i did think of the A380 a bit after starting this post, however as i was a bit strung out i couldnt really be bothered to go to the trouble of sorting it out. the 600 figure i got was from googling capacity of a 747 and the first link said there was some special edition or something that could fit 10% more passengers (with the original capacity figure given of 550). And like we all know, the internet never lies. Who cares if the plane drops a few feet during jump run.. no planes perfectly good anyway as the saying goes.. and that relative wind business, speed skydivers go faster than that.. admittedly they usually dont get thrown around like a ragdoll when they're doing it but hey, it could work
  13. Yeah but if i didnt get rid of the seats, then people would have to gear up at altitude and that just adds to the complications. Besides i wouldnt be allowed my 1000's of people bigways.. i would be limited to a mere 600 or so. As for the C-5, i had no clue what one was so i googled it and theres a pic with its nose cone open. whether it could do that in flight is another question but im sure it could be worked out. That could be quite fun as long as there wasnt anything sharp and pointy sticking out of the walls
  14. this is a fantasy, battery farming jumpers is perfectly acceptable
  15. Has anyone ever considered how much fun a dropship one could be? if you could somehow shield the jumpers from the massive jet engines and figure a way for it to go slow enough to allow for reasonable exits and not too much drift from LZ on jump run and the plethora of other issues with jumping out of one. strip out all the seats and that. add some scatter cusions and multiple doors and you'd be good to go. you could even fit a tailgate for dropping cars and inflatable whale flocks. You could have a couple of thousand people for a bigway, pretty awesome boogies. fast climb rate etc. Open to HALO and HAHO...... you could even moan like an airline passenger on your way to altitude. P.S if this is worded weirdly, its late in the UK and im feeling a bit buzzed out, humour me
  16. Cant remember exactly what the specifics of my plane are but its reffered to as "the caravan". its a sit on the ledge and push off kind of gig
  17. cheers guys, im gonna head down the pool at some point. that point about the head held high just reminded me of another of my common mistakes. i do usually manage to keep my head high for most of the deployment but theres usually a point when the shock of the canopy opening (not sure during which point) or just part of the initial fall that means my head drops for just a moment. been told that i need to eliminate that as well
  18. Hi all, i've now done 5 raps/static line jumps. my first two were kind of baby steps and just getting into the feel of it. Got canopy flight patterns etc. pretty well. However, i have a real issue getting stable out the door into a proper arch. i get head on to the wind in a good position fairly easily but my arch is virtually non-existant and my knees are usually a bit stiff (unconciously). Managed to have a good arch on my third go at it but since i havent been able to get it again. The one time i did get it i was following the advice of one of the guys at the DZ i was having a chat to - relax a bit, and it worked. (since i've been trying to relax but i think im doing it a bit too much because im basically not forming much of a body position beyond arms and legs spread with a slight arch at the hips) I think my main problem is lack of currency (desperately trying to generate funds). When i leave the door for the past few though theres been a moment that used to be "oh expletive!!!" thats now "ok, i think i can do something in this gap with my body before the chute opens and gives me a 180 line twist". Basically any tips and if this little moment im getting is kind of key to getting into position would be appreciated, especially any exercises i could do. I hate being a poor student
  19. Do you guys reach TV in a speed skydive and if so, anybody got any figures? (assuming that you can actually get accurate figures) Also, just out of curiosity, is there any reason why nobody goes feet down? is it just less aerodynamic?
  20. thanks, seems to me the general trend is in favour of full face. i heard somewhere that some guy preferred the feeling of freefall on his face so i guess thats something to take into account. are there any benefits of open face over full face, or is it just down to practicality?
  21. ahhh that makes sense, does it affect sound/vision etc at all?
  22. Hi guys, just wondering the pro's/con's of full face/open helmets. what opinions does everyone have on them and which they think are best and why? should you start off with one in particular or does it matter? any info would be appreciated Marcus
  23. Genius that is me haha, how is the slider removed in an RDS? is it some kind of cut away cord you pull and the whole thing just removes (i couldnt see in the video you posted as it was just out of sight) Again correct me if im wrong on this but arent the bag and pilot chute level with the canopy? (havent actually spotted mine under canopy, ill add it to the to do list in my next jump) do they have some kind of cut-away system as well? if so where abouts is it connected to your rig so that you can access it? Cheers again for the replies
  24. Ahh i thought it might have something to do with the noise, doesnt removing a slider lead to pretty hard openings though? (as thats my basic understanding of part of what a slider does)
  25. Hi all, did a quick search but i couldnt find anything related (probably searching with the wrong keywords but im as basic as they come so i havent learned them yet). I've seen in a few videos that people often tie off their slider after the canopy has completely deployed but before they take control of the toggles. (if they're not tying it what are they up to?) I was just wondering why and if its canopy/discipline specific? Thanks very much, Marcus
