While the quality and function of these rigs may be on par, it is important for potential owners to also consider the customer service they can expect when they inevitably need to order spare parts or get some work done.
Some mfgrs are more responsive than others in that area which can make a big difference in how you feel about the rig on your back -
I was exploring something similar that a friend of mine made using a simple and cheap elastic sweat band. Though I'm not sure he used washers but that's a fine idea and an improvement. -
QuoteOver time the steering lines shrink as a result of friction from the slider during opening, as much as 6 inches in extreme cases. New canopies or line sets adjusted to have no slack in the steering lines will begin to fly in brakes as the control lines shrink.
If one is not diligent about untwisting brake lines (removing the candy cane effect) does this cause link shrink to be even more dramatic?
Meaning if you had two canopies, one that regularly had the brake lines untwisted and one that didn't and they did an equal number of jumps, if the properly untwisted canopy lost 6 inches in length due to shrinkage, how much would the improperly maintained brake line shrink? -
Did you ever find a solution for this one? -
QuoteThe Committee believed that there was not enough known about this canopy, i.e. the stresses it may come under, wear & tear etc and that only someone with a lot more experience should be the person jumping it through a proper test programme.
...and "a lot" more is...? 10 jumps? 100 jumps? 1000 jumps?

This is great stuff -
I put the 150 in there and it packs up just fine. Just a little softer than before but not even questionable. I almost think a 135 would fit but I won't be going that small on this rig.
Thanks everyone -
makes you want to fill a harbor with tea doesn't it?

There is a group on Whidbey Island here in Washington state that is trying to get the US Navy to relocate an outlying field that F/A 18 Growlers use for carrier qualification.
Compared to Longmont, it's actually legitimately loud (in excess of 130dbs).
And even THEY haven't been able to make any headway in getting it shut down.
The main reason being the Navy has been there long before they were, and it turns out just being pissed off doesn't move the needle with the federal government.
Go figure. -
QuoteThe Pulse fits into the "left hand" fork of John LeBlanc's two paths of canopy progression.
Reference for those who don't know what the left hand fork is:

QuoteWell I recognize you as an Equipment Manufacturer. Their, close of subject. Period dot. Now call them back and tell them you are in business.
Does anyone know what the legal standard is to be a "recognized manufacturer"?
Does it mean you have a business license and you have had sales that had tax collected?
If so get a license (easy to do in states, don't know about UK) and sell your canopy to a friend, collect tax, file with the government, and include your tax records in your nuclear bomb binder.
Seems strange that in order to jump a canopy the manufacturer has to be recognized, but you can't be a recognized manufacturer if you can't jump a new canopy. kafka indeed!QuoteIt is often safer to be in chains than to be free.

QuoteSadly I'm not of legal drinking age yet.. gotta improvise with that one haha.
Oh boy. Only woman on the dz and not 21? I'd suggest you head to the women's only forum you may need to cover some material that's not in the SIM -
QuoteMy main point was, there is nothing to fear about jumping a BASE rig.
Skydiving would be a lot safer if we all jumped 260 foot 7 cell mains right?

QuoteI really wanted to perform well my first day, and I performed like crap. I know I will do better on my next jump a week from now.. but I don't want to fail and feel like that again.
This is a humbling sport. One thing I can tell you is that just getting through AFF and getting your A doesn't guarantee that you won't have a bad jump that will humble you and bring you down. You could have hundreds or thousands of jumps and make a mistake learning something new or just because you made a mistake.
This is an opportunity for you to learn how to handle setbacks, of which this sport deals plenty in numerous ways. Gather yourself up, think hard about what you can do to move forward and improve, and put a plan into action to address it. As a student, this is what your instructors are there for, so you're in luck you don't have to figure that out all on your own. Seek them out and discuss this with them (preferably when you both have time to talk it out).
Bring a case of beer at the end of the day and I bet your instructors will talk to you as long as you want (or until the beer runs out, so plan accordingly )
But you do have to be mentally strong on your own!
As another poster listed out, however, you have already demonstrated mental toughness so you have it in you. Flex that willpower and power through, I think you'll be surprised what you can overcome if you stick with it and keep your chin up!
Good luck! -

QuotePretty crazy, for Colorado. If I wanted to live somewhere it rained all the time, I'd have moved to Seattle. I'm kind of bent out of shape Seattle decided to move (its weather) here
You can keep it! -
Can you imagine her as a jumper? She'd be an unhinged know it all bossing people around giving unsolicited advice on everything from packing to loading the plane to landing patterns while coming off as an insufferable asshole. She'd fit right in! -

This just appeared:
13CV31563 Gibbs v. Mile Hi Skydiving
Bench Trial PDFQuoteThe Court hereby DENIES Plaintiffs’ claims for nuisance, negligence, and negligence
per se.QuoteThe Court finds the noise produced by Mile-Hi’s operations is not offensive, annoying, or
inconvenient to a degree significant enough that a normal person in the community would
consider it unreasonable for those individuals who choose to reside in close proximity to
an airport. The Plaintiffs are concerned about noise during daytime and early evening
hours, which they believe impacts the use of their backyards and leisure activities. MileHi
planes do not typically operate after dusk. Though the Individual Plaintiffs may at
times find the noise to be irritating or frustrating, the Court finds the gravity of harm to
Plaintiffs in this matter is not significant or severe. An individual may also find it
irritating or frustrating to listen to the sound of motorcycles and trucks on nearby streets,
to hear lawn mowers throughout the day, to hear children’s yells or laughter in a back
yard, or hear the loud playing of music from a neighbor’s home. But simply because a
certain noise level is irritating or frustrating to a small group of people does not equate to
the noise being significant enough that a normal person in the community would find it as
offensive, annoying, or inconvenient. -

QuoteThis thread is dragging on a bit now, and I'm supposed to be writing a few articles about all this. Is there anybody who would want to read more as I continue? Maybe a blog or something? That way I can stay in contact, and put this thread to rest.
No reason it has to be an either/or type situation. you could always do a proper blog and update this thread with a brief summary and a link to the relevant post.
Having this thread as a canonical resource would also have value, though I could also see the point of view that "my little project" has been finished and you're on to "my other little project"
Either way I'd follow along to wherever you post new info as it has been a great read -
QuoteI guess I'm a women because I still loving jumping my pilot after over 1000 jumps on them. You can't beat the openings on them and have no problem with the "Sweet" spot being deeper in the toggle stroke
While plenty of women may also find the sweet spot tends to be deeper in the toggle stroke, if your pilot is MANgenta then you're good to go dude. -
QuoteI can tell you from a recent incident I had, from what the leg strap did to my actual leg (severe bruising and swelling) if anything else had been in between I don't think it would be functioning anymore.
I'm afraid of the leg strap failing in the case of a nut-under as well. -
QuoteOk OK. Next one we will land.
