  1. the man is a parody and lyrical genius... and you have to hand it to his band for being able to play -- well -- all the styles that he does.

I haven't been to one of his shows but i've heard tell that they're so good that weird al 'whuffos' have been converted there.

  2. in the saddle on main.. 1100 ft
in the saddle in reserve... 900ft

a few years back (2001?) i watched someone chop ~300ft from a low CRW entanglement, we all thought she was dead.
she ended up in the saddle with her canopy at treetop height -- didn't have enough canopy time to unstow her toggles... i'd say less than 2 sec of canopy time. scaaaary shit.

  3. agreed.. great boogie once again.. Met lots of great new people and had a blast.

As spence said, the lift capacity problems from last year were taken care of with TK planning ahead for the CASA this year (rumor has it it was on-call if we needed it earlier).

C'mon people, let's all pile into zhills next xmas boogie in an epic way.

oh yeah.. and who was the foold who started thw whole playing with electricity game? :P

not to be a stickler but, air guitar is playing without a guitar

are you sying that i have nothing to worry about because there is no guiar, or replying to the thread at large and noting that it's not "air " guitar because there IS a guitar?

if you meant to reply to me and my comment.. please not that there IS a guitar, no matter what it's called, that i can't imagine the turbines would appreciate.

  5. can the tunnel owners really be happy about this stuff going on? i can't imagine they will be very happy if someone accidentally lets go and gets an ironing board sucked through the turbines... it pictures are cool, but.... am i overestimating the (very expensive) equipment risk involved?

  6. easy... fly to florida, go to zhills, talk to sally hathaway.. she's an aff instructor and a tunnel coach and a world champion belly flier. there's a skyventure tunnel nearby in orlando, a great boogie and a hell of a new year's party. what more could you ask for?

So when did Dan Preston start working for Atair?

HA! i actually laughed out loud at that.. nicely done.

As far as the firebolt, it's the fastst broom in the world!

What do I expect? I expect answers, of course! There have been several posts saying, "I landed my Smart at 1.8:1 and it landed great!" or "My PDR113 loaded at 2:1 was a great ride and I stood up the landing easily." or " I jump my Sabre2 at 1.7:1 and it still performs great." (even though it may be only rated up to 1.6:1. There have also been discussions on jumping a lightly loaded elliptical (e.g. 1:1 or even less). I want to know why? How does the wing perform in these out of recommended ranges? Why do people jump them in these ranges? Etc., etc.?

These are some good questions, but i don't know that there are any concrete answers/whys what can be had. That being said, i'll give you my impressions fwtw.

re: highly loaded reserves - most reserves aren't recommended to be loaded at the ratios that you mentioned above, but that doesn't mean that they're suddenly unsafe to fly above some magic number. Even if that number does exist, i imagine the manufactures would pad it heavily because they know that skydivers are the type to push limits, break rules, and exceed stated tolerances for fashion sake. The numbers printed on the labels are there to define a relatively 'know quantity' with respect to canopy performance. Go outside of those boundaries and they don't make any promises.

As to why people would not only exceed those tolerances but do so in an egregious manner (2:1 reserve loading), that's likely a fashion issue -- small rig. Mind you, i have no doubt that i could land a PD reserve loaded at 2:1 just fine on a good day, but it's the bad days i'm worried about. The problem is that if you find yourself under your reserve, there's a good chance that it wasn't a good day that got you there. I don't want to be slumped to one side in my harness under s 2:1 reserve.

The same rules about magic numbers apply to main canopies as well. Jumping a sabre at 1.7 may fall outside of the 'ideal' performance envelope identified by the manufacturers, but 'ideal performance' is a very subjective thing. If someone loves their sabre at 1.7, great. Most people jumping that sort sort of loading are looking for the kind of flight characteristics that a fully elliptical canopy is better able to provide, and i'm sure that figures highly into the recommended loadings.

I'm hurt that skydivers don't respect my intellectual property any more than this. Next time I'll just keep my tools to myself.

uhh.. how did they disrespect your IP, exactly?

  10. once, having unhooked the canopy and re-hooked it up w/o taking it out of the bag, somehow one 3ring had passed through the V in the other risers.

It ended up that my risers were on the proper sides, but i had a backward flying canopy with the risers crossed in front of me... kindof a linetwist that woulnd't escape because one riser was trapped by the other. But it was there, square (ok, elliptical), stable, slider down and steerable...... so i landed it.

    Hence the name, "Reverso Rodriguez"

PS. i had opened high so there was little traffic, and i made sure to land at the far end of the field to avoid other canopies.

Are all of the customer files still active? If you're not still working on case files from 3 years ago, they can be offlined for good.

No, but I still need access to them sometimes. For example, I had to look up the roof color today of a house we built 3 years ago.

I can get you set up with internet-based backup. Data gets encrypted before it leaves your computer and stored in a secure hosting facility in either jacksonville or NYC (or both if you're really paranoid ;)).

it's available to you at any time, no digging through tapes, no carrying hard drives home. once you tell the program what to back up it's all automated and reports get emailed to you.

    PM me if you're interested.

Thank you for that lesson in anatomy. :D

(It just wouldn't have grossed jeiber out as much if I said I was peeing out of my urethra and that's what I was going for.)

i hoped that was it... you'd be surprised (ok.. maybe you woulnd't) how many people know very little about themselves.

as far as grossing jeiber out.... you should have peed from your vagina then ended up wiping red ;)

    Server: 2.8 Xeon Processor
    RAM: 1 gig
    OS: Win2000 Server

Any DBA's out there? For MSSQL 2000 Server is there any:

    -Recomended DB size limit?
-Recomended total # of DB on server.
    -Recomended total # of connections

    Thanks

win2k is nearing, of not alreay at, EOL... you should consider 2k3

the details that you provided in the later post don't seem like nanything that server shoulnd't be able to handle so long as you structure your queries efficiently

also bear in mind that 120 users very very rarely means 120 simultaneous operations.

also bare in mind that most webservers re-use DB connections, so you may only end up with 1 or 2 open connections to the DB per server, not 1 per user.

for reference we host a sire on which 5000 simultaneous users are handled by 6 webservers and 1 SQL server.

Mind you, it has 4 processors,8 gigs of ram and a 14 drive raid10, but you're not doing anything anywhere near that level of activity.

from the setup you described i'd worry more about fast hard drives than anything else. you don't need 15k drives, but you should at least be running raid1 (even though writes aren't accelrated, any decent implementation will stripe reads), prefereably 5 or 10/0+1

it's great, so long as that's what you're into at the time

  16. well done! and crongratulations both for sticking to your morals and having a guy who in the end was really willing to listen and empathise with you about the whole thing.

now, as for what you should do together... go get a strap-on and make sure you take a picture of his face when you present it to him :P

*taps you on the shoulder & whispers so as not to publicly humiliate you with a guy telling you how the female body works*

girls pee from their urethras, not their vaginas. They're close together, but not the same place :-P
