Winter Canopy Theory Courses with Brian Germain
BrianSGermain replied to BrianSGermain's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Hey Everybody! I just wanted to pass on the word about the new canopy theory courses now available throughout the winter season. I have realized that many folks would rather not spend their precious vacation time in the classroom. This is why I am now offering a weekend or day course on canopy flight skills and safety in the warmth of your DZ classroom or nearby venue. Summer is coming back to the northern hemisphere, rest assured, and the ones with a current mindset will be ready to blossom with the spring. Knowledge is lift and visualization is more than half the battle. This course will change everything. For information or comments, please PM or contact me directly by phone. (301) 646-0761 or email me at [email protected] Happy Jumping! -Brian Brian Germain SAFETY FIRST!! It is a constant balancing act between perceived ability and perceived risk. The appraisal is subjective, but one thing this sport has going for it is community. Listen to your friends. They know more about you than you realize, perhaps more than you know about yourself. Keeping your ears open to everything that makes you a safe skydiver is the best way to become an old one. Actually, they are still officially grounded, but the Estonian Air Force is still able to inspect and fly them. That is why next year's Estonia Boogie is going to be such a great oportunity! My favorite was: "so, after you fly around like that, do you just get back in the plane?" Here's your sign... Instructional Videos:www.AdventureWisdom.com Keynote Speaking:www.TranscendingFEAR.com Canopies and Courses:www.BIGAIRSPORTZ.com

It's true, every jump is awaking in it's own way, but some really do stand out. It was as beautiful on the way up as it was climbing out. It was simply amazing, and I recommend everyone do it at least once. I doubt anyone would argue that our eyes have ultimate veto power, and fostering our "organic" instruments is the best plan. However, as people develop this skill and judgement, how many will lose their lives? We might, by the traditional thinking, stop giving altimeters to students to force them to use their eyes. That is how I learned back in the '80's. Clearly not the path to safety. This sport is far to hazardous to hold back the technological advances that can make us safer. If the goal is to save lives, than every bit of data we can get our pilots will help us to achieve that goal. I am not suggesting that we make these devices mandatory. What I am suggesting is, we just do it anyway. Like the use of goggles, having audible altimeters designed for canopy pattern information. We chose to use them not as a result of regulation, but it is the right thing to do. Complacency comes in many forms, and relying on our instruments before our gut instincts will always be a trap in flying. This potential however, must never cause us to cast aside the benefits of such life-saving technology. For less money than a weekend of jumping, you can know how high you are throughout your approach, without taking your eyes offrhe action.. I will always believe that it is worth it. All good and valid points, Dave. The question I ask is, would wide-spread use of such devices improve safety more than than they detract from it? I believe they would. AAD's can kill people too, but I still have one. In order for folks to arrive at a sustainable conclusion, all things must be considered. I thank you for your thoughts. Perhaps you figured it out, but my brother wrote and performed the music. He is an awesome kids entertainer. I thought the skydiving public would enjoy it, since we share a great deal in common with his normal audience. :-) Instructional Videos:www.AdventureWisdom.com Keynote Speaking:www.TranscendingFEAR.com Canopies and Courses:www.BIGAIRSPORTZ.com
