Agreed, although it seems with the pack I describe there is little chance of a horseshoe from loose bridle, although that still leaves pin knock outs. Having said all this I cant remember hearing of a horseshoe mal.Rich M -

Maybe I'm not visualizing this right, but isnt this EXACTLY how to increase the odds of a horseshoe is you pull on the briddle... wont this pc packing method create a hard bunch and hard / impossible pull with a pulled briddle?
Maybe it's my misunderstanding. I thought that if air catches under whatever exposed bridle there is, it can work out the remaining bridle within the pc bundle until there is enough out to create enough drag to pull the pin and consequently horseshoe. Packing the bridle around the back of the pc bundle prevents the stowed bridle from escaping. Am I missing something? Why would you pull the bridle and not the hackey on a BOC system?Rich M -
The statistics from skydivingfatalities.net for 2001 in USA (sadly, the web site is no longer kept up to date) show that 1 death occurs for every 187,000 skydives. That can put some sensible perspective on the dangers of the sport for whuffo's who think 1 in 10 jumps kills someone. It's much safer than people think.
Statistics also show that over 30% of people die while practising the dangerous activity of sleeping - I am raising the issue with the government and want sleeping banned as it is obviously a zillion times more dangerous than drinking or smokingRich M -

Positives:
1. If your container is too big for your canopy and/or your closing loop is too long, and you jump a rig without adequate bridle protection, and your entire bridle comes out of the pilot chute pouch (without the pilot chute) while doing head down, then the flex-pin is less likely to be prematurely removed by the wind drag on the horseshoed bridle, which by the way, is well under one pound..
Bill Booth
But if you pack your pc with your bridle exiting the pc bundle at the opposite end to the hackey and then coming up the side of the pc bundle (aka common freeflyer way) the full bridle out horsehoe mal is avoided anyway, unless I've missed something. Apparently leaving only cons and no pros according to Bills list.
Thanks for posting it RMurray.Rich M -
QuoteI guess that I "pyscho pack" my stiletto 120. It is basically a straight pro pack with the exception that I turn the parachute around 180 degrees and very carefully throw it down. I then clean up the pack job, roll the nose and tail and turn it back over. I do not roll my parachute up like a sleeping bag, which is my understanding of the traditional "psycho pack". I cobra fold it as usual and bag it up. This is a very common pack job where I come from (UTAH, 5000' MSL). I know that the manufacturer recommends otherwise but I get very nice on heading, slow openings. I previously had a stiletto 135 that I pack ed the same way for 700 jumps.
I pyscho pack and don't roll the nose, dont have the slider sticking out and dont roll the tail on my xfire1 and the end cells are fine. Mind you the end cell closures dont happen when I propack either. There are two other pack variations that may help you (I'm assuming you are struggling to get a slippery canopy in the bag):
A mix of psycho and pro packing - propack and lay canopy on floor as per propack. Kneel on the canopy 6-8 inches up from the slider, grasp the pc bridle connector point, lift it and the canopy to your body, then roll the canopy down sleeping bag style toward your knees. Remove knees and place roll on "1st fold". You end up with a canopy that looks like teh number 2 from the side, only more curly at the top. Bag it. You may need a bridle extension for this.
Propack and lay on floor as above. Kneel halfway up the canopy and put the 2nd S fold in, bag that S fold then drive the 1st S fold into the bag afterwards.

Chris ,Alastair and all the staff at Headcorn made it a fun safe meet! See you all at Netheravon!
Shame it was so windy!
That was Stuart Piper in 7th. It was a great meet in great weather, very fun to watch.

Agree 100% with CrazyIvan.
There is a panel or printing on the main canopy that will tell you it's dom, its model and size, and the serial number. Linesets won't be a problem, just see your local rigger. Different lines wear out at different rates. Kevlar wears faster than Spectra. The brake lines wear faster than the centre B & C Lines. They don't normally snap, but the outer lines take friction heat as the slider comes down, and they get shorter than the onner lines. This changes the shape of canopy, and new linesets are often fitted as a mix of maintenance for wearing lines, and to retrim the canopy back to original spec.
If you haven't already had a rigger a check this kit out, please do so before you jump it - I'd invest in a reserve repack too to ensure it is all sound inside.
Have fun.Rich M -

Gonna play devils advocate here. Would you feel that it was your responsibility to judge someones abilty to fly the kit they want to buy though you? Bearing in mind they might know shit?Rich M -
I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for substandard workmanship on a piece of life saving equipment.
Plenty of non riggers wouldn't have even seen this. I had to look at the other brake toggle for a few minutes before I figured out what the problem was.Rich M -
Only once in 250 jumps. I am very careful about keeping a symmetrical and level body position during the initial inflation, watching the horizon as I deploy to ensure my shoulders are level and feeling my hips to try to keep them level. I also make sure I tighten my legs straps evenly. Then once I am brought vertical I reach up and pull the rear risers apart evenly to keep from twisting up as the canopy turns during final inflation when the centre cells inflate.Rich M -
I have 250 jumps on my XFire 1 119 which was on the recall list and has had the line trim mod. It never opens on heading. The outer 3 cells on each side inflate before the centre 3 cells, and then the two halves of the canopy fight for dominance. Which ever side wins is the way it'll turn as it finishes inflation. I've lessened the amount of off heading by switching to psycho packing and being much more aware of my body position during inflation.Rich M -
Hey, congrats and good luck

QuoteSo...I have been downloading stuff from Hadown.net and I'm getting about 48-50 KB/s. So...how fast does that make my DSL connection? It's been too long since I worked with this stuff everyday for me to do the higher math.
DSL is quoted at a rate of Kilo Bits per Second. 8 bits make a byte. So 512 KBits/second = 64Kb/second. 50Kb is good from one server. Compression can improve the apparent speed, but 512 hardware is limited to 512 over the copper coming to your house.Rich M -

QuoteOK time for my turn to ask all the guru's a question. The other day I d/l an update for one of my games but it slowed down my puter as well as the game I later on read to NOT d/l that particular update due to the bugs that were in it and so on. Well I didnt read down that far so now Im in a rut. I tried uninstalling it and deleting it and such the re installed the game but its still coming up as the updated version... so how do I get it off the registry so I can start from scratch? one I dont know how to even access it and 2 everyone always tells me that if I dont know what Im doing better not to even try or Ill be reformatting everything
We're gonna need to know the game, where/how you got the download, where you read that you shouldn't get the download, what OS you're running. I'll be away for a few days now, but I hope you/us fix it for yaRich M -
Ive seen that before but much smaller. Great boobies, thanks

QuoteI have to do a report and a presentation in a class and the intsructor has said that there are 20 different things we will be graded on as far as the presentation itself. He wont tell us what those 20 things are though.I do know that a couple are: knowledge of the subject (OSHA),using visuals, involving the audience(asking them questions)oh hell,I dont know.
The presentation itself is on a JSA (job safety analysis) for the whole Junior College and all its employees.
This is a first for me so any help is appreciated.
dropdeded
If you think you'll be nervous, get a preachers book resty thing and start your presentation with a 3 min exciting video. Stand behind the book rest during the video and you gf who has hidden in there can give you a bj, that will relax you before you startRich M -
QuoteMy BASE toggle lines are hitched to the toggle using a reinforced finger trap that then easily larks heads with itself around the grommet and toggle - it seems this is a more sound way of doing it because there's less bulk, less to inspect, and unless the fingertrap came unstitched - there's no way for it to come off the toggle.
Do the knots serve as some sort of blown toggle prevention? It seems like the opposite to me: that the added bulk would make it even more likely to occur if you're using slinks or your slider goes over the bumpers.
I can't figure how this looks, can you draw me a picture please? We knotted rather than stitched because she wanted to get back up in the air, good girl :)Rich M
