  1. good attitude. i just finished my aff jumps last friday. i had and instructor deploy me chute on the first jump. one thing that helped me relax was just deep breathing. anytime i started to spin i would do a mental check of my arch. first check you leg position and if they are good its your arms.
    good luck!!!

    really?

    from a skydiver?

you know what they say about birdshit and idiots.....

    yes really

jumping out of a plane with a nice parachute that you can control and gently land is a lot different than throwing yourself off a cliff in a plastic tube.

only birdshit and idiots fall out of the sky!

    Ever feel like this?

today especially. went to see the band tool last night and it was intense. went to a party afterward. slept on a floor for two hours then went to work. outside for 6 hours.

wait a sec...that was your first lost shoe???

Yes, but I've seen no mention of losing a shoe in the beer rules. :P

its a first, beer-rules apply to ALL firsts! ;)

lost my first shoe on my first aff two weeks ago. no one even mentioned beer.

Doing an unassisted pack job is a requirement for the A license.

Out of curiosity, where is that recorded once you sucessfully do a pack job? Is it put in your log book with a rigger signature?

There is an A-license card that comes in the back of the SIM that has all the required things and spaces to have them signed off. There are two different versions of the card. Have you gotten your SIM yet?

that is the url for you a license progression card. i wouldnt worry about that till you get through your aff jumps cause you will have enough to do without trying to knockout the card as well. if you do complete any of the card on your aff jumps you can always get someone to sign it later.

All 3 were shitty landings ... I'm still having problems with this, more so than before getting injured (my mind is my worse enemy right now).

i know how you feel about the landings. i dont have many jumps, but i consider any landing i walk away from a good landing. maybe thinking of it that way will help you clear you head a little.

on friday i finished aff levels 5,6,7. got lucky and didnt have to do any repeats. my first solo exit was a little shitty but i got stable pretty fast. had to buy my case of beer which felt really great. i got embarrassed when we got down and warren announced that i just finished aff and everyone gave me a cheer. ended up doing sort of a coach jump on saturday morning. it was pretty much docking and tracking. it went well, but i had to leave early and get home by two for my niece's bday party. cant wait to get back in the clouds.

Know the feeling, cant stop thinking of jumping again, did tandem a few weeks ago and finally able to schedule 1st AFF class last Thursday but couldnt jump due to weather. I must be driving everyone crazy because i cant stop talking about it. Driving to work tonight it was finally sunny and thinking to myself must rather be up in the clouds than driving to work. Hopefully can jump this Tuesday.

know the feeling. i just finished my aff jumps last friday. just remember to breath deep and relax, the dives will go much better. thinking about jumping just gets worse with every jump, but its a fun addiction. good luck!

i just finished last weekend. isn't it great!?

good job! have fun and be safe!

its an excellent feeling knowing i can jump out of a plane on my own, and make it to the ground alive. i went 21 years without jumping, now i cant imagine going over a couple weeks.

    congrats to you too!!!

  12. it took me last weekend (f,s,sn) and this friday, but i finished my aff jumps. i went this morning and took my first jump unsupervised, and it was amazing. i wanna thank the farm because they kept me safe and well informed. cant wait to learn some more!!!

. in fact, just tonight i was reflecting on how i can't (or don't want to) think about anything else right now. everything else in my life has paled in the light of my new love of skydiving!

a lot of skydivers told me that pretty much all of their "normal" friends aren't so much friends anymore. im kinda worried this will happen. its kind of like comparing oranges and apples, some people just cant understand. ohh well... fuck it.

  14. same thing happened to me. two months later i am 1800 dollars poorer and have never been happier. got four aff's down and 21 more jumps to go. good luck with the "bug!"

PLF PLF PLF PLF PLF PLF PLF PLF PLF....

Your legs are built as shock absorbers. Your spine isn't! ;)

edit: Not directed a the OP, more of a rant in general

I've mentioned it before in various forums, but I'm still amazed at how many licenced and 'should-know-better' skydivers routinely do tandem-style butt first landings.

I'm not a doctor, but I do have a degree in neuroscience, and I promise you, a broken ankle heals lots faster and lots better than your spine will in the event of an injury.

Why has this type of landing become fashionable? Why aren't the instructors and S&TA's saying 'look, this isn't a safe way of landing'? Honestly, all it'll take is a small rock you didn't see and you will be looking at some serious damage.

Please folks, don't do these landings unless you absolutely have to.

i did the same thing on my first jump this past weekend. i was taught the plf in ground school and i even had to practice it multiple times by jumping off a gear locker about three feet high. i was telling myself "dont land on you ass" over and over but ended up doing it anyway. i think it has something to do with doing a tandem first, cause you slide in on your butt. luckily i dont have anything worse than a bruise or fractured tailbone, but i guarantee ill never come in on my ass again.
