He got back into the air again today, only a little over 4 months after his accident. Douglas, you're amazingly resiliant! :)

Outstanding! Go get e'm Spotted Eagle! B|

So I was talking to someone yesterday and they asked me when I was going to go back "home" (to Canada).. For me it was a bit of an odd question because I haven't lived there in 5 years, so I don't think of it as my home anymore.. I don't know at what point "going back" stopped seeming like the obvious thing I'd eventually do..

It got me thinking, though.. Is the UK really what I consider "home" now? I'm not so sure.. I fit in a lot better, but still often feel like an outsider.. Then again, the last time I visited Canada I felt *really* out of place and everyone kept telling me I sounded British!!! Ha ha ha!!

So now I'm wondering about people who travel a lot. I don't mean just vacationing - I mean real globe-trotters.. Do they ever feel "settled"? Or do they always feel slightly out of place and hence get itchy feet?

Anyone care to share their thoughts??

Home is wherever you have a family. :)

I'd like to spend a day with:
Quade-to hear some histories of non-skydiving stuff
Bill von-to pick up some instruction tips.
Ian-So I can know how to not put my pelvis in 4 pieces again.
Skymama-simply because she makes everyone around her smile (and there is always free beer around her due to all the guys she attracts).
Wendy-cuz I know less than nothing about CRW.
Phree-he's a computer geek, a photo goof, and so am I. Plus he's just a helliuva nice person.
And although Airtwardo isn't a mod, I'd like a day with him too. Lots to learn from a man of his mind and experience.

2007 - 100-Way CRW formation. We had been building up to this for several years with the CF World Team, and the jumps, while by no means routine, had a pretty familiar pattern. I had been toward the end of the build, meaning my position was along the outer edges of the formation. For this one, however, I had an earlier slot. Big CRW diamonds always start with a 4-way diamond and then add layers onto the two bottom edges of the diamond, with the top people in the base always staying at the top. On this one, I docked about halfway through the build. Previously, docking toward the end, the whole formation was to one side of me and a couple of folks between me and clear air by the time it was built. This time, after I docked, layer after layer added on, until I was almost in the geometric center of the formation. I really wasn't prepared for the sight of 5 rows of canopies to my right, 4 rows to my left, and 10 rows above and below me. It seemed like all I could see was people, nylon, and suspension line going forever in all directions. In an emergency, people along the edges have a better chance of getting away from the action, while people toward the middle do not. This slot was THE CENTER.

CRW seems to elicit something like a pleasure/pain thing, only it is a happiness/fear thing. It's almost like the unbridled fear of your first jump, even though you may already have made thousands of jumps. CRWDogs seem to be happiest when they're scared shitless. In the back of your mind, you're thinking that this will either be the coolest jump on earth, or an incident report that will require an entire special edition of Parachutist. Everything went well, and everyone performed flawlessly, even though we all felt like Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, with a syringe of adreniline straight to the heart.

When I think about Memorable Jumps, yeah, that one was Fucking Memorable.

    Kevin K.

That was the most descriptive reason, to me, why people do CRW. It had remained an enigma until now. You made it sound freaking awesome. B|

Dumb waste of money on a stupid ad. What exactly is she selling? :S

I'm sure she got richer doing it though.

She got richer by hanging w/ Tom Brady.

    Hey Guys and Gals

I just finished my Solo licence last weekend at Mile High, in Arnprior, ON. Went the long way through with the TAFF then into PFF. I managed to squeeze in 14 jumps before the end of the official season, I'm so stoked to be apart of the skydiving community. I'm looking forward to getting some winter jumps in and start creating my own style.

    cheers.

    Congrats! & Welcome. :)

It's not that I "like" or "don't like" him. I don't "hate" or "love" him.

    I do NOT know him.

I don't trust him. But that's not because he's "President Obama" - rather because he's a politician and has shown that he will do what he had to to get elected. (I think the infomercial directly prior to the election was an underhanded attempt to spend money to get elected. It wasn't the "right thing to do".... and it didn't help me get to "know him" at all.) He has also made comments that has increased the divide between Republicans, not that the Republicans have been trying to play nice either.

I just don't really trust politicians.

I don't trust most politicians either. However, I think that when it's all said and done, Obama's administration will be looked upon as a success.

For the people who do believe in evolution and science. I hope that’s most of us. What is our effect on natural selection for our own species?

It is obvious that when it comes to our species we interfere with evolution.

    What effects will this have?
Are we seeing these effects already?

Which traits get passed on more?

The cold reality of nature is that the weak would die. What is weak in the terms of our life today?

    What will become of us?

If evolution were true, TrophyHusband would instantly grow a tail to help him stay balanced on his new bicycle. ;)

Is the a difference in an orgasm and busting a nut?

Yes. I would have to agree with your friend that an orgasm for me is very different than busting a "nut".

It's more intense and more of a total body experience.
They were very rare for me, I was a very tense dude, but thanks to Yoga and meditation....oh yeah it's fun!

It also helps if your partner is goood. Some girls just lay there like dead fish.....while some...oh buddy some....wow! Hence my post in the Brazilian thread.
Some girls just know what they are doing and it's religious! You'll be screaming your own name!

A cool idea: Post your story of who you would like to be with for a day and why. We'll pick the best story and we'll either send you to that person, or send that person to you.

If you post in this thread, please be willing to donate to the cause.

oh and we need a catchy name for this like "Friends For Life" or something.:P

Great question. Too many to choose from. 1) Quade to find out why he's the world's most boring skydiver. 2) Billvon to pick his brain about skydiving, political views, etc...
    3) DSE to learn about photography... 4) Skymama, Nataly and Lucky (to show off my beautiful children)

I got my first speeding ticket in over 3 years tonight on my way home from dinner and I'm so annoyed. I got a new car about 1 1/2 months ago and am adjusting to the different gauges. It was pitch black and I was coming up over a steep hill and going 39 in a 30. Navy blue dark cop car sitting on the side of the road no lights on or anything and next thing I know lights are on behind me. He asked me if I new why he pulled me over and I knew then it was obviously for speeding so that's what I said. So I pretty much admitted guilt.
Does it ever help to not pay the ticket right away and go to court to fight it or explain? Like I said I pretty much admitted fault. How much can this 1 ticket in 3 year effect my insurance??

You admitted speeding to the who? Who cares. The cop is not the judge. You can still fight this. Tell the judge what you told us. It's worth a try.

    Those dudes were impressive!

    Manthropology abounds with other examples:

    * Roman legions completed more than one-and-a-half marathons a day carrying more than half their body weight in equipment.

    * Athens employed 30,000 rowers who could all exceed the achievements of modern oarsmen.

    * Australian aboriginals threw a hardwood spear 110 meters or more (the current world javelin record is 98.48).

Bring 'em back, put them on a football team sponsored by Geico, send them to the superbowl.

Who SHOULD? If you want the two best teams the game should be between Alabama and Florida.

Who will? It's a toss up for me between Alabama and Florida. Going to come down to who stumbles. Florida damn near blew it yesterday. Would like to see Alabama take it, if for no reason other than I'm a Georgia fan and it is terribly painful to cheer for Florida.

Who will the SEC team play? I'm guessing Texas, but who knows, there is still a lot of season left and a single loss could really turn the polls upside down.

I'm still getting a kick out of seeing Cincinnati on the rise. I went there 95-99 and during that time even homecoming only filled half the stadium (everyone was busy watching Kenyon Martin play basketball, nobody gave a damn about football). I think it would be a joke for them to play for the championship considering their schedule, but if Coach Kelly stays around and they have a few more 10+ win seasons and those seasons include some tougher competitors they may just get there.

    Yup! Go Bearcats!

Screaming in a restaurant-it is annoying the other patrons. Take them the fuck outside. Immediately.

Wow. If one or both of my kids screamed in a restaurant, it would be the last time that they did it.

  16. I enjoyed watching the jumps that were broadcasted on the Live feed. (esp. the Open cat.) I liked watching 8-way the most. Carolina Ice wasn't too bad. One of the teams had a "Big Guy" & he did just fine. But I was wondering if his teammates would be willing to wear weight so that he wouldn't have to de-arch the whole time. Perris Stun moved as if they had just got stunned by the police. Easy for me to armchair quarterback. but that's the way I saw it. All in all a good finals. Air speed and Golden Knights seemed to improve as the meet went on. Just my ever so humble observations...
