  1. I've got a Tony sit-suit that I got in the 90s. It was a great help to learn sit flying when no one at the DZ was doing stuff like that. It made it really easy to stay in a sit and was like training wheels. I haven't used it much lately but I still pull it out every once in a while for special jumps.

  2. You just survived one of the scariest mals out there and lived to jump again. That tells me you kept your head and did what you had to to survive.
Watch Brian Germain's video lecture on transcending fear and that will show you some ways of calming those felings.

Aresye, it's been discussed many times before. The general consensus from freeflyers is that barrel rolls before pulling is a good idea and the general consensus from bigway RW flyers is that it's a horrible idea.

You can do a search to read the why's and why nots.

Having done big ways in both RW (60 ways) and VRW (20 ways)
I have never and would not do barrel rolls on RW big ways for the simple reason that I maintain visual contact with the people I am tracking beside. By keeping track of the people that are supposed to be around me I know if all is good. I still clear my airspace above before pulling.
When doing VRW big ways everyone on the jump knows and is told in the briefing to turn 180 from the centre while still HD and track.
This way everyone is tracking on their back for the first 5 or so seconds of the track so I can see if anyone is tacking above me, then flip to belly and track for the hills. This way we can keep track of everyone that is supposed to be around you.
When people throw themselves out of airplanes for fun we must be aware and alert to as much as possible of what is around us when it's time to save your life. Be aware and arrive alive.

  4. Saying God doesn't exist is as much of a cop out as saying physics doesn't exist. 10,000 years ago we didn't have proof of either, but they still existed.

    ...

But now we KNOW that physics exists, and we still don't have proof that a god exists.

The notion of "survival of the fittest" applies well to animals, but as humans we are much more intelligent than that.We understand that every human being has worth and therefore should be respected for simply being human. This helps our species “evolve” at a different level that that of the other animals on this planet.

    Really?
Maybe you and I understand and believe that every human has worth and should be respected. But have you looked at the rest of the world? People in places like Irac, North Korea, numerous countries in Africa and any where in the world that oppress their own people in any way, don't have the same respect and values in regards to human life
that we have. There are far to many people in this world that think nothing about the wholesale slaughter of innocent neighbours who may not think the same way or worship the same god.
If "we" as a species are going to evolve there is a LONG road ahead.
All I can say is "Be Excellent to One Another"

  • I was jumping a 136 Samurai. I loved my Sam and am still feeling out the Sensei, but so far I have found the Sensei comes down a lot faster, has more power in the flare and turns a lot faster. Feels very stable, and the openings are great, about 700 ft.

  • I just got my new BigAir Sportz Sensei 101.
I have 9 jumps on it and so far I am loving it.
Openings are great (now that I learned the lesson it taught me on jump 3.... Don't look over your shoulder on deployment.)
It comes back from long spots easily on rears.
Flies great and the swoops are awesome. Lots of power on the bottom end of the flare.
I don't know it well yet but it is very easy to handle and seems to know what you want to do.
It just sucks that it is near the end of the season up here in the great white north and if I want to jump in the winter I'll have to go south.

  • I will still argue...sorry. I spent way too long seeing what happens when it doesnt work, which happens more then it does. People fall in love with these cute little furry guys, bring them home then when shit goes down hill dump them off at the shelter.

That just tells me that those people shouldn't have had dogs to begin with.

  • A black hole is what is left after a Star has burnt all its fuel and goes super nova. The leftover matter collapses into an extremely dense object known as a neutron star. If the neutron star is too large it continues to shrink until it forms a black hole that is so dense and the gravitational forces so strong that it prevents even light from escaping.
That being known I can't believe that this collider could possibly create a black hole when they smash some very small very light particles together.

  • It's only a matter of time before they are all wearing slick suits like speed skiers and skaters. As speeds keep getting faster and competition increases from more skilled pilots then the clothing will reflect that need for a competitive edge. It may look gay but it will happen.

  • I check my pilot chute on EVERY jump before the door is open. You never know what the moving around before exit is going to catch something.
It's good to hear someone else was paying attention and saved you a possibly very bad incident.
Zero G's are fun when done smoothly. You can tell what is coming by the sudden increase in climb and pressure you feel. If you don't know what's going on it can be a little scary but you should not have been "flung about the cabin". Does this pilot do this on a regular basis?
Maybe tell the pilot to refrain from doing future zero G's unless everyone knows what's coming.

What is the rag for? they carry it everywhere like a security blanket.

It's a shammy to dry off between dives.

How do they practice? do they wear protection?

They practise on trampoline and in the pool. No protection.
At least when I was diving 20 something years ago.

How common are screw ups/injuries/smakers?..and what injuries are most common?

Screw ups are common when learning new dives. I made my back bleed when I was learning back 2 1/2 on 3m springboard.
Other common injuries are wrist and shoulder related.
Then there are the board strikes that can really hurt.

Would air bubbles coming up from below make it safer? (i know about surface tension)

They do use bubble machines when training on tower( 10m)
and some pools have them for 3m also.
I used one at the swimming hall of fame pool in Ft. Lauderdale Fl.
when we went for Christsmas training/drinking camp. It was pretty cool, but you always went to the bottom on every dive. It was a deep pool.

Wrist braces? why not a frap hat?

Never used them, didn't have wrist problems.
Frap hat? Really now, that's pretty lame.
