  1. I have a question regarding loosening a chest strap. I am not doing anything crazy, just practicing stalls and flat turns, that kind of things, and loosening my chest strap to the max (without taking it completely off). In the event of a chop, does it give greater probability of falling out of the harness if opening in sub-optimal position (e.g. head-down)? Sometimes when I do full toggle stalls, with uneven toggle input it would give me linetwists which I was able to clear no problem so far. But it is always in the back of my mind, what if I can't and will need to chop? Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  2. I am wondering about a proper technique to utilize my booties in tracking. I already get the "track hard" part so make my body stiff and really plank it out, so no problems there. A lot of videos I see it seems to me (or at least it looks like) that people just track away without really doing anything with their booties. I would think that turning your feet outwards and exposing booties surface area to the relative wind and pointing your toes out (as they should be the whole jump) would assist in achieving a better track? 3. Guys, will repeat my post in this thread to give credit to a good piece of advice that solved the issue in my case: Discovered this thread and decided to post my results in case someone is facing the same issue in the future. Basically, from my findings, good slider control during packing solved the issue for me. First, I make sure slider grommets are always tight against the slider stops and never slide back down the lines when I put my canopy on the ground. Second, quartering the slider: I used to put too much emphasis on the "quartering" part, meaning ensuring that each quarter of the slider is tucked neatly between the lines and inside the stabilizers. I found that actually creates an issue so that when I do that - my slider center that I have just tucked deep into the center of the canopy between the line groups, slides back up a little. Now I make sure I tuck it in really well and spread the corners that stick out neatly without tension, so that the slider itself stays deep where it needs to be. Also, once on the ground (again, I psycho-pack), I grab the center of the slider and pull it up once again before folding the triangle. Also, when actually folding the triangle, I put my knee just over where the slider grommets are and make sure whatever I do after does not cause the slider fabric inside my packjob to slide down. That, on top of rolling my cells toward the center a bit tighter and leaving the center cell out, along with always double-stowing ALL my lines (I used to do it only on the first two stows) ensured consistent nice and pleasant (but not too long) snivels. Basically, from my findings, as DJL said (thank you for pointing this out), good slider control during packing solved the issue for me. First, I make sure slider grommets are always tight against the edge of the canopy and never slide back down the lines when I put my canopy on the ground. Second, quartering the slider: I used to put too much emphasis on the "quartering" part, meaning ensuring that each quarter of the slider is tucked neatly between the lines and inside the stabilizers. 5. Yeah I strongly suspect it's my pack job, will start there and see how it goes. Thanks for all the good advice everyone! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  6. Dragon2, it's Spanish but I heard only some of their Safires are like that, not all. RopeaDope, very solid advice, you basically summarized all the important points I picked up from packing videos and seminars, thank you! Riggerrob, you made an inspection on that canopy 3 jumps/6 months ago, how is my trim? ;) Btw, it's the one in the rig right now, feel free to pop it and take a look, I won't need it at least till Friday. 7. I’m experimenting with packing techniques to slow down the openings. I got Safire-1 139 ft and it might be one of the older ones that are known for harder openings (not as bad as Sabres though). I psycho pack and the list of things to try currently include: 1) Better control of the slider during packing (making sure it stays in place and not moving away from the slider stops) 2) Double stowing all the lines even for the closing loops and keeping them tight and symmetric 3) Rolling the cells tighter to the inside without exposing the center cell. One of the “techniques” I came across a couple of times already on this forum is so-called “Nova pack”. Basically it only implies that you roll the four cells on each side inside and tuck each roll into a respective half of the center cell. Can anyone that has experience with this share his/her thoughts/observations/rationale? When I first read this my first reaction was – WTF.. But like I said, I noticed this advice more than once already and interested in your experience. The way I see it, technically the canopy was not designed for this kind of thing and logically (one would think) once these cells start taking air in and expand still being inside the center cell, it would exert excessive pressure on the inside walls of the center cell which it wasn’t really designed for? Can that potentially damage your canopy, let alone provide inconsistent openings? I understand a lot of people have their opinions on this matter but particularly interested to hear from whoever tried this method or at least considered it and decided for/against for whatever reasons.
  8. I find fast openings uncomfortable and enjoy the snivel, it's just the matter of personal preference really. The snivel after I through my PC is one of those parts of the jumps I find enjoyable. Plus slower openings = less stress on your lines and fabric. Thanks everyone for the ideas, I'll try them out and see what happens. Blue Skies! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  9. Again, it's not that I cannot pro pack, it's just I find it easier and faster to psycho.. Plus all other above mentioned reasons. And honestly, always believed psycho should not add any speed to the opening process, but after a few comments here starting to doubt that.. Question about rolling the tail "tight" - how do you do that when you canopy is hanging down from your shoulder? In psycho packing when I flip my canopy on the ground, I have an access to the nose to roll it, but my tail is facing the ground; and when I'm trying to do it still hanging - it kind of falls apart anyways, I cannot roll it tight for sure.. Also liked the proposed idea of a deeper slider. The pocket on the slider - I dunno, if it was Sabre, yes, but feels unwarranted in this case, plus adds some pain attaching your slider behind your back after opening.. 10. Spasibo Lyoha! :) Will try #1 first. Safires are known for a bit faster openings (what I get from these forums) but nowhere near what Sabres are known for. I know some people are rolling the tail also (I used to do it when I stack packed) but doing it while psycho or pro packing when your canopy is hanging is not very handy, it all falls apart anyways.. 11. Hey guys, I have recently got a slightly used Safire 139 (first one, not II). On my first jumps I noticed it opens up a bit fast for my liking, basically there is no snivel at all. It does not bang me either, just opens fast, by the time I look up my slider is usually down or almost down. I psycho pack (love it cause I hate S-folds and it is so much easier to put the thing in the bag). I roll my cells to the inside, don't leave the center one out, just two rolls and a slider sticking out. I don't do too much to the tail, just kind of slightly roll all the rags to the inside. Everything else is as per usual pack job. What things can I do to slow down my openings and get that sweet snivel back? :) Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  12. Haha Sammielu, I'll try your option 5 lol :) I am using the thinner foam insert in the helmet cause I feel like in the event of impact it provides a little bit of extra cushioning. I also close it right before exit and open right after opening. I am using pretty well fitting glasses but never tried them in freefall, don't want to struggle with fogging in the middle of the jump. 13. Ok, emailed Paragear (sorry for misinforming at the beginning, baught it from Paragear), they are sending a new visor free of charge, pretty prompt and cool about it, very pleased with them. Another question popped up though.. So I tried wearing my sunglasses under the visor and while visor is not fogging up, my sunglasses do :) how do people deal with that? 16. Just bought a new 3G from Chutingstar, all good, sizing good, but.. There is a noticeable visibility reduction when I close the visor.. I mean I never jumped with full face helmets but I feel it should not be so drastic.. I know people reported problems with the anti-fog coating in the past, but nothing seems to peel off or anything like that.. just the lens itself is like.. foggy? It's not fogging up when I close it down, just the visor itself is not super clear.. Is that a problem or something I have to get used to? I expected much clearer lens to be honest.. Also, a side question - do people jump these helmets without a visor? If I take it off and just jump with sunglasses? Thanks! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  17. Don't you just love how people post in classifieds and then don't answer emails.. I mean if the item is sold - mark it as such, not hard is it? I usually mark the users that don't respond and then never deal with them in the future.. Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  18. I'm not even sure, SkyCountry is designing some kind of speedflying wing that supposably you'll be able to jump from the plane with.. my friend asked me this question, I wasn't sure. Don't ask me why you would want to jump out of airplane with a speedlying wing.. can't figure it out myself.. Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  19. Thanks guys for the clear explanation and the links, it is very helpful! Much appreciated! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  20. Hey guys, English is my second language, can anyone explain what this means: "Lines will be 500 vectran finger trapped and bar tacked just like on skydiving canopy". What does finger trapped and bar tacked means in plain English? Thanks! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  21. Hey chill Scumpot, I did not say I am going to do this ))) I am not dealing with this guy, I am saying that is the only positive thing that you can get out of situation WHEN YOU ARE NOT SURE IF THE CHECK IS REAL OR NOT. Telling the teller that you suspect that this check is fake is a must, in which case it will still be deposited to your account but all steps will be taken to check that as soon as possible. Also I work in the bank myself and it is not always that fast and easy to check legitimacy of the check. Yes, if it is the same institution draft or money order - it is seconds, if it is within the same country - it might be minutes, but once it is international it may take days and even weeks to figure that out. Bank will release the funds long before that (15 business days in our case), but will hold you liable and will debit your account in case it turns out that it was fake. 22. Funny, cause I have also received an email from the President of Nigeria, he must be a royalty alright Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  23. I would play along, just don't want to give out my information. Not that he can do anything with it, but just to be on the safe side. The only positive thing I can do with it I guess is to wait for a check, deposit it straight to your line of credit or any other interest-type account and wait till the bank claims it back cause its fraudulent, in this case you save yourself an interest for the time period before they find out it's fake. The only thing is that you don't want your bank to put a caution message on your account although even it wasn't your fault. Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
  24. Yeah, on my question about the car he replied "i mean item name and year..i will wait to hear from you tomorrow", and never answered my question about his home dz and name of the rigger.. no doubts now it's a scam, thanks for the input guys! 25. Hey guys, I am selling my gear now, I am in Canada and the guy from England got back to me saying he would like to buy it from me and he needs it as soon as possible. He wants to pay with a "cashier check". I said I won't be able to send gear as long as I wait for the funds to be cleard so PayPal is the best and fastest and safest way to go. He said he's ok with waiting, but he wants to pay with, again, a "cashier's check". Here's his last email: "i am okay with the cashier check i will like you to get back to me with your full details with the format bellow to enable me to make an out right payment with my cashier check which will be sent to you by my Financial institution.. Name:.... Address:.. Amount:.. Car make and year:.. Email address:... Phone number:... Thanks" end of message Now, I am interested in selling my gear - but I don't do it too often and a lot of things kind of raising red flags to me - why he doesn't want to use PayPal, he needs it "urgently" but ready to wait and why he needs all this info (especially my car make and year??) Also I understand my add is pretty thorough and detailed but he didn't ask any questions - right in the first email said he would like to buy it from me right away and asked to send him this info... What risks do I bear giving him all this info, cause to me as long as he waits till funds are cleared, it sounds fine, but at the same time don't want to send all this info just to some scammer that might possibly use this information to get me into trouble? What would you do? Thanks! Every life comes with a death sentence. Until then, who's in charge?
