I only have 6 jumps and 4 AFF under my belt but my hangup definitely seems to be flaring. First AFF I flared and had a solid landing but the instructor thought I did it a little early, so the next jump I waited way too late (ouch ). The next two jumps I kinda quasi-flared a little too early, realized it and waited a bit before fully flaring. Not very smooth landings like I see the instructors pulling but at least I'm not eating grass anymore.

Whats the differance between God and a Tandem Instructor...

I just went through my two tandems and first AFF very recently, and I have to say I very much appreciate what my tandem instructor did for me. Beyond canopy flight stuff, the three S's etc, he even made a point to teach me about airplane exit procedures and pilot communication. He taught me how to turn and track (although I know this is impossible with a drogue, it was still fun to try and get the body position down). It left me more prepared and confident for AFF and I actually learned more on how to skydive, rather than just feeling like an ATM to the DZ, where I probably would've made the decision to go elsewhere. -
AFF #1--whoo hoo I did it!!

Yeah I was anticipating the canopy flight a lot more than the freefall as well. I had a bit of problem because we jumped on a fairly cloudy day and I couldn't ID the dropzone through the clouds. At about 3000 feet I finally got through them and noticed it a ways behind me, but I still managed to get to my holding area with time to spare. Stand up landing on target (thanks to his instruction no doubt) and can't wait for #2. It's pretty easy, you should be fine! Enjoy. -

Congrats, I'm doing mine pretty soon, just waiting on this weather to clear up.
