67 Republicans voted against disaster relief for Superstorm Sandy.

The majority of those Representatives had, however, supported emergency aid efforts following disasters in their own states.

Eighteen of the 67 dissenters are first-term members, sworn in just a day earlier. But of the 49 Representatives with a prior House record who opposed Sandy aid, at least 37 had previously advocated for or touted emergency aid services following other disasters that affected their own constituents.
    The “hypocritical” list includes:

    1. Rep. Dan Benishek (R-MI): Endorsed emergency crop relief assistance after spring freezes.
    2. Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN): Asked for disaster relief after flooding.
    3. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL): Promoted relief funds after a tornado.
    4. Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA): applauded FEMA flooding relief.
    5. Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH): Asked for disaster relief after storms.
    6. Rep. Mike Conaway (R-TX): Asked President George W. Bush to approve disaster relief after storms caused flooding.

    7. Rep. Scott DesJarlais (R-TN): Endorsed disaster funding after storms.
    8. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI): Backed disaster funding after storms.
    9. Rep. John Duncan (R-TN): Asked for a disaster declaration after storms caused flooding.
    10. Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-TN): Endorsed disaster tax relief and touted available disaster relief funds.
    11. Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC): Endorsed President George W. Bush’s disaster declaration and its resulting USDA crop freezing relief.
    12. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX): Pushed for a Bush administration disaster declaration to include more counties after Hurricane Ike.
    13. Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA): Endorsed drought relief emergency crop assistance.
    14. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ): Asked the Forest Service for immediate relief after floods.
    15. Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO): Begged for a disaster declaration after flooding.
    16. Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD): Backed USDA emergency relief during a drought.
    17. Rep. Randy Hultgren (R-IL): Requested emergency drought relief from the USDA.
    18. Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS): Supported disaster declaration after storms.
    19. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH): Asked for a disaster declaration after storms.
    20. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO): Asked for disaster support amid wildfires.
    21. Rep. Kenny Marchant (R-TX): Asked for disaster declaration after Tropical Storm Hermine.
    22. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC): Personally took an SBA loan as part of a disaster relief program.
    23. Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-TX): Blasted FEMA for denying a disaster relief request after wildfires and pushed for USDA disaster relief for farmers.
    24. Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS): Backed emergency funds for Katrina cleanup.
    25. Rep. Steve Pearce (R-NM): Pushed the Bush administration to declare a disaster after Hurricane Dolly.
    26. Rep. Tom Petri (R-WI): Applauded disaster declaration during a drought.
    27. Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS): Encouraged constituents to apply for USDA assistance during drought.
    28. Rep. Tom Price (R-GA): Called for FEMA disaster relief after tornadoes.
    29. Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN): Urged a disaster declaration after tornadoes.
    30. Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN): Backed a request for disaster relief after flooding.
    31. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA): Called for USDA and SBA relief after fires.
    32. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI): Backed a disaster declaration after flooding.
    33. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI): Backed disaster relief after flooding.
    34. Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-IN):Backed a request for disaster relief after flooding.
    35. Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX): Blasted the denial of a disaster declaration amid Texas wildfires.
    36. Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC): Endorsed USDA drought relief.
    37. Rep. Robert Woodall (R-GA): Requested a disaster declaration from USDA amid drought.
Former U.S. Senator Alfonse D’Amato (R-NY) blasted the opponents, telling the New York Daily News, “They’re a bunch of jackasses. Every one of the 67 who voted no are nothing more than pawns of a philosophy that is not backed up by facts.”

And you cold find 1 democrat that has done the same? i guess those blinders you have onrelly do work. At least it was about not spending money time. We usally hear stuff like "Raising the debt limit is unamerican" or " rep's are spending like drunken sailors and we will be fiscally responsible". How hypocritical were those that made those quotes?

When are you next at SDC, Mark?

We might get there this weekend to close things up for the winter. unfortunately we haven't been there much the last 2 months because of finances. We are hoping for a better year next year.

Occupy’s voice has been both loud and persuasive and that policymakers have listened and are acting in ways which will close those fault-lines. In fact, I want to argue that we are in the early stages of a reformation of finance, a reformation which Occupy has helped stir ... You have put the arguments. You have helped win the debate. And policymakers, like me, will need your continuing support in delivering that radical change.

Barclays and Lloyds seek to change their "sales-oriented culture" and return to their Quaker roots, the BBC reports Haldane said. "There is the quiet, but unmistakable, sound of a leaf being turned. If I am right and a new leaf is being turned, then Occupy will have played a key role in this fledgling financial reformation. You have put the arguments. You have helped win the debate. And policymakers, like me, will need your continuing support in delivering that radical change."

Answer the question, what reforms have happened that occupy is responsible for?

You are confused. That's the reason Romney and Ryan give for not revealing details of their secret tax plan.

Tax plan isn't secret, I have heard it and want it. the left needs to open eyes and see.

Really? So tell us which deductions will be eliminated. Tell us why Romney said he wouldn't release the details.

what deductions to be eliminated needs to be worked out but then why would he piss off groups now. Why wouldn't you be for this? If he does this the big companies not paying tax, like GE, would start to pay tax with the deductions eliminated or capped. Isn't that what the left wants is big corps to pay tax?

A good example of why the right wing has such a credibility problem of late:

From NRA magazine "America's First Freedom" September 2008 issue:

    =============
    Barack Obama's Ten Point Plan:

    1) Ban use of firearms for home self-defense.
    2) Pass Federal laws eliminating your Right-to-Carry.
    3) Ban the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.
    4) Close down 90% of the gun shops in America.
    5) Ban rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.
    6) Increase federal taxes on guns and ammunition by 500 percent.
    7) Restore voting rights for five million criminals including those who have been convicted of using a gun to commit a violent crime. (In the state of Maryland this has already happened. Thanks to a very liberal legislature and Governor.)
8 ) Expand the Clinton semi-auto ban to include millions more firearms.
    9) Mandate a government-issued license to purchase a firearm.
    10) Appoint judges to the U.S. Supreme Court and Federal judiciary who share his views on the Second Amendment.

    Gun Industry Thrives Under Obama
    Fri, 10/19/2012 - 3:32am
Eileen Sullivan and Jack Gillum, Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama has presided over a heyday for the gun industry despite predictions by the National Rifle Association four years ago that he would be the "most anti-gun president in American history."

    . . . .

An analysis by The Associated Press of data tracking the health of the gun industry shows that sales are on the rise, so much so that some gun manufacturers can't make enough weapons fast enough. Major gun company stock prices are up. The number of federally licensed, retail gun dealers is increasing for the first time in nearly 20 years. The NRA is bursting with cash and political clout. And Congress and the administration have expressed little interest in passing new gun laws, despite renewed calls to do so after deadly shootings in Colorado and Wisconsin.

The poor economy, fear of crime and military veterans returning from war who want to keep their shooting skills sharp also may be driving some gun sales. But the general view of analysts and those in the industry is that Obama is the main catalyst.
    =============

But I'm sure THIS TIME the GOP is right!

What about the UN treaty that he wants to sign banning many guns? I have heard many things about treaties and other stuff but got no real information yet. Seems this stuff has been hard to come by and I would be interested if you have any information on it.

since when do you get to define what is or is not earned income. I say they eaned it all.

Your contributions in this thread and another show that the information sources that right wing conservatives rely on can cause people to believe things that are patently ridiculous.

    Deadbeats trying to own homes?

    Inherited wealth is "earned"?

It is stunning that abject ignorance is so common among right wing conservatives these days.

I'll bet you think that the Obama administration had two years of united Congress that would have done whatever he had asked, and the Republicans did nothing to obstruct any legislation that passed the HOR. Your information sources may spread this lie, and you might believe it, but it is a LIE, as in factually incorrect. Just like Rmoney and Ayn Rand's boy, a stream of lies and misinformation are presented, and lapped up by right wing conservatives, like a cat does cream.

Ignorance can be corrected, stupidity cannot.

The billions made by walmart since the old man died is not inherited it is earned. Even some of the inherited money may have been earned but that was not the discussion. And many of the bad loans from the housing collapse was from people that tried to get more then they could afford and instead of buying according to their income bought according to their wants. then instead of working harder, selling their house, or cutting back on frivolous purchases they let the banks forclose on them and then cried about how the gov should bail them out. Yes they were deadbeats.

but for many's sake I hope stupidity can be corrected.

Foreclosure filings drop to five-year low in September

    October 11, 2012, 7:22 a.m.
    LATimes

WASHINGTON -- Foreclosure filings fell in September to their lowest level in more than five years as a housing market rebound showed another sign of taking hold.

Substantial decreases in California and some other states hard-hit by the collapse of the housing bubble helped reduce filings to 180,427 last month, down 7% from August and 16% from a year earlier, according to foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac.

The last time filings were that low was in July 2007.

Filings for the three-month period ending in September also were the lowest since the fourth quarter of 2007. RealtyTrac said there were 531,576 filings in the period, down 5% from the second quarter and 13% year-over-year, the ninth-straight quarter with an annual decrease.

“We’ve been waiting for the other foreclosure shoe to drop since late 2010, when questionable foreclosure practices slowed activity to a crawl in many areas, but that other shoe is instead being carefully lowered to the floor and therefore making little noise in the housing market — at least at a national level,” said Daren Blomquist, vice president at RealtyTrac.
    . . .

California foreclosure filings were down 29% in the third quarter compared to a year earlier.

sooner or later everything dries up, running out of deadbeats that tried to own homes had to happen sooner or later. I only feel sorry for those that got caught up in it because they lost their jobs due to the deadbeats not buying a house they could afford causing the housing collapse and financial meltdown.

you do realize that as the Waltons die the money will be split many more times to all the grand kids and great grandkids. As long as the money is centralized it will continue to supply jobs and help keep people supplied with cheap products to buy. Working at Walmart is a stepping stone to better jobs and increased pay, just like cutting grass, delivering papers, and working at fast food places back 20 - 40 years ago. Only a loser would use walmart as a career, but it is great as a filler between jobs.

Exactly. We are recovering from a recession. Indexes like unemployment, foreclosures and bankruptcy rates are coming down as people get jobs and can afford their expenses again. Democrats would have you believe everything is great and the recovery has completed, all due to Obama; republicans would have you believe that we are still at the bottom of a crippling recession with no hope (other than Romney of course) in sight.

recovering? I guess the huge increase in part time work is a recovery for you. I say it is stabilizing and waiting for something to send it up or down.
As far as the huge increase in part time jobs I feel that is because of the uncertanty and the insurance mandate in the ACA. part time is cheaper for the employer since the ACA will be in full effect by next year.

The six Walmart heirs now have more wealth than the bottom 42 percent of Americans combined, up from 30 percent in 2007. Between 2007 and 2010, the collective wealth of the six richest Waltons rose from $73 billion to $90 billion, while the wealth of the average American declined from $126,000 to $77,000.

Maybe some need a better financial advisor. Since when is it the Waltons problem that many lost value? It wasn't walmarts fault that banks gave out loans to unqualified people to avoid being harrassed by the liberal left which started the financial meltdown. the government picking winners caused the meltdown and some smart people in the walmart corporation found a way to profit from it. sounds like smart business to me. but now that some people were sucsesful those that don't have want to steal from those that have by telling the government to take it from them in the form of taxes. I say get a second job, work harder, save and invest, or find a better job.
