How many jumps are needed to be allowed to dock with a tandem if you are not wearing a camera or anything else requiring more jumps?

    It's 300 jumps or at least a coach rating:S
The TI needs to have at least 100 tandem jumps as well. It's in the Instructor Manual in the tandem section.
    My dropzone's policy is 500.

  2. Hey Jairo,

Thanks for the tips. This is exactly what I was looking for. A way to get your body to do something using an alternative thought. I will be on the next load to try it out!
I am going to the tunnel soon in Orlando. I bought 5 hours with a friend that we intend to use up in 2 or 3 weekends.
If you know or can refer a good coach I am open to suggestions.

Flight-1 classes like that are tought in Deland and abroad by Scott Miller, etc. Jonathan Tagle does them in Elsinore

Ahhh.... I think you accidently forgot about Brian Germain. He does an excellent canopy control course as well. Much more in depth if you ask me.

You definitely do not "need" a hackey or monkeyfist, in fact hackeys have caused some "interesting" malfunctions mainly when wingsuiting, there is nothing wrong with the old plastic handle :S

The plastic PVC pipe thing not only is more difficult to grab it also looks ridiculous even on a student rig. IMHO "I need" something different than a Home Depot special.
There was an incident not too long ago at my dropzone where somebody got their finger stuck in the pipe and had a malfunction.
    Go figure.

  5. I am having difficulty getting my head back in a sit. I have a coach and all of that but I just can't seem to make that simple move. Of course with my head forward my hips are back and well.....I backslide. Not like a rocket or anything but enough to make a difference. Of course when I try to go forward my feet end up coming up and then my head goes forward and my hips go back and the cycle begins again. Any suggestions or advice? The freeflying discipline isn't anywhere near as easy as some people make it look.:$:$:$

    Dont buy new.

    Really? Why not?
I say don't buy used unless you're on a tight budget that forces you to buy used.
If you can afford it buy new.

I agree. Someone needs to buy new beginner-sized rigs in order to replenish the pool of affordable gear with 100 jumps on it.

You know I have read so many posts like this about buying gear. I bought new stuff.

This is unbelievable. Two people actually agree with me. This calls for a celebration. OMFG.

hmmm....your links take me to a mostly empty template/incomplete webpage?

HERE is my review of the Tonfly CC1 camera helmet. Not quite finished setting it up, but almost done.

What is the snag factor when the camera box is mounted? It looks like a line could snag quite easily. Or is the fit tight enough to prevent a line from getting caught between the two?
Even considering the "converter" part I still don't think you can beat a FF2.

I have learned that if I dont feel right, I dont do it.

How can the way you "feel" affect the opening reliability of your parachuting gear?

Ummmmm.......He's not referring to the reliability of his equipment. He's referring to the fear factor.

fully elliptical airlock canopy that is kind of old technology.

Ok, but it also spawned a few really sweet canopies. The Katana is based on the Jedi's airfoil. Same with the Sam. The vengence was built on the airlock technology. The Sigma tandem main took some design aspects from it as well. I'm sure there are others that are out there that are based or grew from the Jedi that I don't know about.

Just because something is old, it doesn't mean that it isn't still a quality product. The Jedi is still a hot-shit canopy, definitely not for the lower jump numbers out there. Even loaded at 1.14:1.

Yea you're right dave. What I meant about old technology is that Brian has replaced the Jedei with the Samurai because of the idiosyncrosies with the Jedei.
    B|:P

  10. I'm pretty sure the Jedei is Brian Germain's first shot at a fully elliptical airlock canopy that is kind of old technology.
In other words forget it at any wingloading without several hundred more jumps.
Stick with something not elliptical like a Sabre 2 or Safire or Spectre. The Aerodyne Pilot is nice as well. If you want an airlock then check out the Lotus by Bigair Sportz. (That's Brian's company)
Anybody here is going to steer you very far away from anything other than a docile lightly loaded modern design given your limited experience.
    Good luck.

but also recommended going up with 1 or 2 instructors for a non-AFF jump. He said to just jump and let them hold-on to me the whole way to pull time. If I felt good, give them a thumbs-up and they would release me.

I did at least 3 of these "comfort jumps" as we called them, after I had a total malfunction on my 1st AFF level 4 jump. Of course that led to my 1st reserve ride as well. In addition to the confidence building jumps I also rode the plane down several times as well.
I would not call it the walk of shame but more appropriately the walk of self preservation.
Take your time. The sky will be there.

My problem is that I could either go with a bigger container which would have fit me VERY poorly because of my size.

Hmmmm.....not so true. My girlfriend is very small. She is about 110 pounds. She has an Icon container that fits her VERY well. She has a Sabre 2 150 in it with a PD 143 reserve. She just got it all brand new a few months ago and incidently she has over 300 jumps. She is beginning to transition to a 135 now on a second rig but will keep the 150 for a while to come. At our dropzone there would have been no way she would have been allowed to jump a 135 at 90 jumps. I understand you are probably very 'floaty' and it takes quite a while to descend on the 150 but that's just something that a small person such as yourself has to deal with. I think you should be in the 143 class reserve as well. 250 or more jumps would probably be more appropriate to what you are jumping now.
I am not trying to scare you or discredit your advisors however I think you could be putting yourself and others on your jump in serious danger. If you can't open on heading and in control how are you going to avoid other canopies? Also, it probably seems like you can land the canopy just fine on the wide open dropzone up there in Dallas but can you put it in the pea pit every time regardless of the wind? What if you have to land off somewhere in a tight area?
It could be you are just fine with what you have but for the general population I think you have made a very aggressive downsize.
I've been through this myself so I speak from experience. Even at the time I really didn't realize it but now when I look back I thank the people that were looking out for us when we didn't really know what we were doing. (Thanks Diablopilot and Eric Butts)
