  1. I had this same thought. I contacted the medic alert company, and they said they would issue bracelets for skydivers. They fully supported the idea, so that is another option. They said they would include all the things you mentioned, and also include the fact that many skydivers pass away from internal injuries.
  2. I heard there's a boogie in San Diego this weekend. Can anyone tell me what's going on?
  3. I've heard from a lot of Europeans that Russian DZs are incredible. Rumors of 20 jumps a day are plentiful. I just want to know; do Russian DZs live up to the reputation?
  4. We recently had someone come to our dropzone that had a little over 100 jumps. He said he came from an extremely small dropzone that consisted of 3 other fun jumpers and him. As I mentioned previously he only had around 100 jumps. We were sitflying, and right out the door he went head down. He corked about 5 seconds out the door, and when he lost it he almost took me out in the process. He did not seem to really be in control of any body position. Then as we were coming into land he did a front riser 180 to initiate his landing. I do not have much more experience than he does. Other than not jumping with him again, how should I handle this situation? Oh, and he was already flying with a camera helmet. Should there be more enforcement of the USPA recommendations?
  5. I am also been having a difficult time deciding between the two. For me the skyhook was the deciding factor as well, but a little birdie told me mirage is announcing the release of their version of the skyhook within the next 7-10 days. I have already seen a demo cutaway, and it is extremely impressive to say the least. Plus it is less complicated than the skyhook, so I would wait at least a little while longer before you decide. Their system is incredibly simple, and engineered extremely well. That makes the only real difference the magnetic riser covers. However, in my opinion the difference in delivery times far outweighs the magnetic riser covers.
  6. You should call the manufacturer. Some manufacturers have a program that will assist the police in recovering stolen camcorders if someone tries to have it serviced. There are other people here who will probably have more information about these programs.
  7. I am completely new to JUMPING a camera. I have shot hundreds of hours of underwater footage, but from what I have read it sounds completely different than shooting skydiving footage. We have a lot more control over the camera underwater than we do in the air (white balance, zoom, ND, and several others). We can take our time to set up shots underwater we do not have this luxury in the air. This is why I am asking these questions. I love my FX1, but I am looking for an every day camera. I am also new to memory stick cameras 1. Like everyone else I don't need a camera, but I want one. In your opinion will anything change in the next 2-6 months? I'm sorry if I seem to be asking stupid question, but this is an entirely new style of shooting or me. In the past I have strictly shot underwater. I appreciate the responses, and at the very least this should consolidate some posts.
  8. i appreciate the responses. 1. If you were a beginning camera flyer (like myself) would you buy now or wait and see what happens to HD prices? 2. The HC 52 has 40x zoom and the hc 62 only has 25x would this be a factor in deciding which camera you purchase? If you are only using it for skydiving? 3. If you freeze a frame on a memory stick camera; is that frame in higher quality than Mini Dv? 4. Also I have an HDR-FX1 I use for shooting underwater. Is this camera too heavy to jump, or can it be jumped with the right equipment? It seems silly to not jump such a nice camera if it is possible
  9. I have done several searches, and I can’t seem to find all the answers. Here goes. I am trying to purchase a new video set up. I will be mostly freeflying with it, so I have decided on either the ff2 or ff3 helmet from 2k composites. My problem comes with trying to buy a camera. None of the standard definition Sony cameras listed on the Sony website have an LANC port. The only SD Sony camera with an LANC port that is still available for purchase is the HC 96. My only problem with this is that it seems bulky compared to other Sony cameras. It seems like Sony is either phasing out standard definition, LANC, or they are phasing out Mini DV. I have a few questions. Any information will be greatly appreciated. 1. Is Sony indeed phasing out HD/LANC or Mini DV? 2. If Sony is phasing out one of these things what is the best move for someone that doesn’t want to spend $800.00 on a camera? 3. Is it better to wait and see what happens in the camcorder market, before I trying to buy something? 4. Is HD going to drop in price again? 5. Is there another alternative to the cam-eye and LANC? 6. Is anyone using a memory stick camera, and what have been their results? 7. Does anyone side mount their HC96, and if so have they had any problems with it? 8. Does anyone know any of these answers?
  10. you cook/steam/fry/bake/etc an oyster. you ruin the oyster!
  11. I am still in the learning stage when it comes to sitflying. I have always tried to relax while I'm sitflying. Today I did some coach jumps, and my coach told me if I'm relaxing I'm not sitflying. What he meant was that you need to lock in certain muscles and hold them rigid for the entire jump, and only adjust them to make directional changes. This is incredibly counterintuitive from what I have been told before this. Is this correct? Is sitflying a much more rigid style of flying than bellyflying?
  12. I've never had a problem either, but he pulled 3 bent power tools out of his locker, and believe me they are bent. I was just at Elsinore, and they can't find them either.
  13. My friend is a packer, and he keeps bending his power tool closing containers. I thought I saw a thread about a titanium power tool, but I can't find anything searching the threads. Does anyone know anything about a titanium power tool?
  14. Why do you assume I have tracking problems, because I asked about tracking pants?
  15. I am looking for tracking pants. Can anyone recommend some manufacturers?
