  1. No shit, about asking my rigger. Thought others might have interesting thoughts as well... Grommet to grommet doesn't work for my setup. Doesn't fit right. Will probably visit again in 2013. Thanks! E
  2. Howdy, I just installed a lazy bag, and will begin jumping it when my DZ opens next weekend. I will be almost exclusively wingsuiting this season. If some of you experienced guys have a minute, watch my short video/question about the orientation of my lazy bag, and please share your thoughts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9Z5ioUiw8U&feature=email Thanks! E
  3. 20 million dollars - that doesn't include all the beer he's going to owe us, does it?
  4. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll try contacting Mirage.
  5. Hi all, My riser covers have been opening sometimes during higher speed sit flys, and most times I attempt (short lived) headdown. The other day, my bright yellow steering toggle caught my attention during a sit, as it waved around over my head... Any thoughts on how to fix this? Thanks! Eric
  6. Hi all, I'm wondering if there's a DZ near tampa that has a turbine airplane? Skydive Tampa Inc only has a C182 right now. I'm trying to find a good place for a buddy and his girlfriend to take their first jumps and want them to have a great first impression of the sport. Thanks! Eric
  7. Hello! I'm in the Detroit area, and skydive in Tecumseh. I'm looking for a rigger for an inspection and repack. I've tried calling my old Ohio rigger as well as speaking with my new DZ - to no avail... Thanks!
  8. reply]It seems people rush these days to the forums to complain about something that can be so easily sorted out as demonstrated by Karl in responding to this thread. Since Aerodyne turned out to be kind and helpful, now this thread serves only to advertise to people that Aerodyne fixes it's mistakes. What's wrong with that? Go Aerodyne!
  9. The people at Aerodyne turned out to be much more concerned and gracious than it originally appeared to me yesterday. I can now agree with all of you who've said they're a great company to deal with. Thanks guys.
  10. Thanks for the response. That's an interesting point you make about the value of the hybrid set. I actually wanted the RW set so that all of my lines were the same material, and thus would stretch similarly over time. No big rush really, but last year I started jumping in March, and I intended to do the same this year. To the others who said "be nice" "let it slide", etc., I should point out that I was very friendly and polite to the person on the phone. I didn't complain at all. Hence the vent here.
  11. I'd like to retract my complaint - as the situation was graciously remedied.
  12. I thought that might be you. I'm very pleased with the purchase. Thanks again for the fair price!
  13. Hehe! I agree the bathroom is better than the library for concentration. When people talk about packing under a rigger's supervision, do these "practice" pack jobs all count toward the requirement of 20 reserve packs (assuming the job was satisfactory to the rigger)? It's great! It opens nice and slow, and flies great. I'm sending it out for a reline today, actually. It's ugly as hell (purple/orange) - which is nice because nobody wants to steal it! Thanks for the help!
  14. Did I mention that I'm an aerospace engineer, a pilot and a skydiver? My interest in the technical aspect of the gear goes without saying.. I agree, though I don't think money has been mentioned anywhere here.
  15. Thank you very much for the detailed response. That's exaclty the sort of feedback I was looking for. I guess I'd better get to reading, before the weather warms up too much and I'm destracted with jumping! Kind regards
  16. Been covered at length here. Start here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=585697;search_string=So%20you%20want%20to%20be%20%20a%20rigger;#585697 Thanks for the response, but I've read that several times already. My question is not "How do I become a rigger?" My question is more about what it's like already being a rigger.
  17. So, I may be interested in earning a rigger's ticket... As I'm a full-time engineer, my ambition would be to do some "independent" rigging for people (and myself) on the weekends. I'd like opinions of riggers: Is it possible to be a "weekend rigger," and keep busy enough packing reserves, performing inspections and mods to stay current and safe? I think I could enjoy being able to pack reserves for myself and others, as well as perform repairs, mods, etc.. However, I'm not interested in making a full-time job out of it or investing thousands in tools/equipment. I understand that there's a lot of initial work and time involved in getting certified, but commitments like that aren't new to me... Silly idea, or realistic? Thanks!
  18. Interesting. Is this why "yellow" lenses are so popular for shooting, skydiving, driving, etc.. Because they filter out the blues (and the reds)? ER
  19. I had just begun my track when I saw him. It seems he'd hardly tracked at all before pulling. I 'm assuming he'd tracked the same direction I was headed, because that's the direction his head was aimed as he was waving off. It took my eyes a second to catch the movement below me.
  20. So, I made a serious mistake this weekend and would like to share the experience for others to learn from. Firstly, the point of the story: People jumping with you either need to be IN the formation or WAY OUT, not hanging out nearby. The story: Myself and three others were preparing for a 4-way RW dive shortly before the flight. At the last minute we invited a 5th to come along. He said he'd just like to follow us out the door and come watch us. Myself and my group consented, and we made the jump. I never saw the 5th guy in free fall during the planned RW work. However, upon tracking apart for opening, I look straight down about 50 feet and see the 5th guy waving off to open.... I about soiled myself. I quickly changed direction, as the guy was apparently tracking in the same direction as me, and avoided a major accident - this time. The moral of the story again: Don't ever let people "hang out" near you in the air, since you might not be able to keep track of their location. They either need to get all the way in, or get the hell away. Lesson learned on my end...
  21. No offense, but your logic is flawed here. If the probablity is (arbitrarily) .01 (one in a hundred) that any given pack job is "bad", then it doesn't matter how often you get repacked. Your odds will always be .01, even if you're repacked an infinite number of times in a year. As was pointed out earlier, if your next pack job is going to be a "bad" one, and your current one is a "good" one, then the longer you wait for the repack the better..
  22. If it was 80 and sunny, 80 degrees is the minimum temperature that his trunk could be. However, in direct sunlight it is likely that much more heat was transferred into the trunk. The trunk could easily be in the 100s on an 80 degree day. As to whether or not this would affect his gear, I have no clue... I agree about the $65.
  23. Hey monkycndo, is it the "Costco 30" Rolling Gear Bag?" See the attached picture. If this is the bag, is it difficult getting a rig through the top opening of the bag? thanks (to everyone)!
  24. Thanks for the feedback Phree. Incidentally, don't the airlines make you remove any locks from your checked luggage these days?
