  1. The additions are the same fabric PF uses.

I did 5 flights on the suit. My average vertical speeds were 60MPH which is the same as pre-mod (I'm about 6'2" and 240 Exit Weight....I know...I need to to lose some weight). My forward speed improved slightly...very slightly. :|

I was expecting some weird control differences...if anything, it is less twitchy and easier to manuever. However the arm wing extensions love to cover my hackey.[:/] It was pretty easy to flip out of the way...but still a pain given the lack of significant performance improvement. There is probably some performance left. Pre-Mod, when I was maxing out, I would totally de-arch and flex my legs. When I rolled my shoulders and looked down, I could see my feet and flat body. Post-Mod, I can feel the additional force low on the tail wing and have a difficult time fully lowering my feet...if I can manage to lower my feet fully and fully de-arch...maybe the performance improvements will show.

Obviously, I am a pretty novice jumper and wingsuit pilot...so others results may vary.

I did manage to get the most incredible amount of line twist ever after I burbled my pilot chute on the last jump. The bag twisted at least 4 times before opening (i.e. there were 4+ full twist before the slider inflated fully) and it continued to twist upon opening...I had at least 20 twist when it stopped (seriously). Big kudos to the docile nature of my big ass Triathlon for flying straight and steady even when the twist where all the way up the lines and half way down my risers. Kicking out of 20+ line twist is a dizzying experience...

All that said, it was a fun experiment! :)

  2. Attached is a Pic of version 1 of my pimped out Prodigy. We added about 7 inches to the legwing and 2 inches to the arm wings.

    Test flights tomorrow...

I say version 1 because I am pretty sure we will need to do a little tweaking on the armwing attachment points to maintain the tension to the tip of the wings. Most likely we will just add an additional attachment point at the tip and mounted lower on the pants while maintaining the original attachment point as well. We added stiffner from the attachment point to the lower edge, but I can see that while that may prevent some flapping...it will probably not prevent the inside part of the extension from just folding back under the pressure of the relative wind...we'll see.

(Note: Yes I know that this sort of experimentation can be dangerous.)

  3. Chris,

Thanks for the additional emailed photo's...my Prodigy is at the rigger as we speak...more details to come!:)
I'm adding 6-7 inches to the leg wing and 2 inches to the arm wings.

Thanks, I know how to measure my size, but not the rigs...

that size will be written on the rigs label, like C17. now sure how to physically measure it on the rig though

I have a Javelin and Dolphin and do not see such a label on either.

  5. Hey that first pic is Jim Hickey. I've flocked a little bit with him. Great guy. In his 60's, started jumping about 1.5 years ago and has like 900 jumps.

Looks like some flocking fun! Darn...I should have went to Perris this weekend.

So sounds like both you and Diablopilot are recommending that illusioneer deploy his main on a 1K emergency exit?

I can't speak for diablo, but I am/was not saying that.

My cutoff, with my canopy is still about 1.8K as it opens pretty slow and I don't want to be sniveling anywhere close to 1K.

People tendto forget that on a hop and pop, a slow opening from a less than terminal airspeed does not mean more altitude is lost than a faster opening at terminal.

In fact in my experience the opposite is true.

Bam! I was going to say the same thing.

Also another point of clarification, the Expert Cypress fires at 750ft...but makes the "decision" at 1K.

  • Totally off topic...but there is something about that second photo...I like it.

  • Yup that last guy looked like a challenge to say the least. Can you say fetal position.

It's kind of funny, they are talking about the one bit of instruction at the beggining (i.e. ARCH) and then they do not even get close to doing an arch.

I didn't mean to knock your video...I've seen some of your really good work in your Skyphoria submission...that big ass telephoto in this shot was just not something I had seen before. BTW-I'm so jealous of you and your new "job".

Edited to say: Sorry to steer off-topic...now back to our regularly scheduled program- "Poker Pros Jumping Out of Airplanes".

His response, to the best of my recollection, was essentially that if he had it all to do over again, he didn't know if he could... he just had a lot of great opportunities fall in his lap, and took advantage of them. Whether that is humility, or truth... I don't know.

This is the truth for most succesful people outside of skydiving and photography too.

    Hello,

Just curious. Compared to a Navigator (260 in my case) ... how would you rate the openings on other parachutes. Are the other parachutes opening any softer than my Navigator ...or are they a bit rougher?

    Best Regards,
    Mircea

Based upon my experience, most modern sport canopies open softer than the Navigator.

I jumped Navigator 260's and 240's as a student and while I never felt like I got whacked, I frequently had mild bruises.

On jump 26, I jumped my sport rig: a Javelin and Triathlon 220 ('98 Model). I finally understood what a snivel was...and older Tri's aren't the slowest opening of canopies...but they are way slower than Nav's.

I've demo'd Safire's, Sabre 2's, Pilot's and Spectre's and they are all very smooth/slow opening canopy's. My favorite is the Pilot....or maybe my Tri 220 with the 5.0 line mod.

we need to make the skydiving training more affordable here in the United States.:)

Skydiving is a high-end motor sport (aircraft)....and is one of the cheaper motor sports.

If you want a cheap sport consider non-motor sports: BASE, Climbing; the Big5, etc.

Running a DZ is full of Costs...I'm suprised that quality DZ's can still operate while only charging $20 per jump ticket.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't love to see a DZ that offers $10 Jump Tickets on a brand new PAC (in fact I would spend my vacation there) or to be able to buy a new quality rig for $500....but it just ain't gonna' happen.

I wonder if people on Yacht racing sites complain about the cost of Yachts?

  • These new M1's are huge!

Are they now the suits with the greatest SQFT of wing surface?

I'm guessing the SugarGlider/GS1 formerly held that distinction...but these new M1's seem to have surpassed the GS1. It looks like they could push the leg stance a bit wider...but that's about it.

  • Have you seen wingsuit inlets?

Pretty much the same way....cuts in the fabric that overlap and are connected by netting. Nothing too complex.

In Iowa a DZ here got nailed by the state a couple of years ago. He had to pay a few years back taxes on sports jump tickets (for which he now charges) Tandems are considered students and no tax is levied. (Don't ask me as I know it is screwed up:S)

This DZO probably just needs a better tax attorney. Then again...maybe it is just easier/cheaper to collect and remit the tax.
