False you say? There's been at least 3 deaths alone in the Birmingham, AL area from police use of tasers in the past 5 years. 300 people nationwide would not be unreasonable since tasers were first used. JMHO

You are obviously more of an expert than me.:D I am only trained in its use, have been tased, have used the M-26 and X-26 numerous times and carried one every day since around 2000. Read this atleast you will be an informed expert:

For what its worth, I was a cop years before the taser. With all the controversy drummed up by the media I would be happy to turn the taser in and go back to the old way of doing things.

  3. ***Over 300 people have died from being tased.[/

    FALSE :S

I have been tased, OCed, CSed and a few others. I won't be volunteering for the taser again.

  4. I would recommend Deland. They are friendly and I never have a problem getting on a load. Also great for kids.

I went to Z Hills last fall and and was treated rather poorly. Actually I found the staff quite Rude. Normally I would have let it go, but I'm in business myself and feel an owner should know about this kind of thing. I even wrote to the owner "TK" about my experience (twice) and it was ignored. I also personally handed him a copy of the letter when I saw him at another airport. Not a great way to run a business, but I heard that TK has some serious problems that I won't mention here.

WOW, that shocks me. :o My experience is totally the opposite. Actually if Z-Hills were to ever close, I don't know if I would continue skydiving.

Not sure if he really knows what he's getting into, but he fully expects (and desires) combat. He doesn't need any money for college (trust fund exists for that).

EDIT: As it currently stands (hasn't signed yet), he's set up for 11B, AIT, RIT (RIP?). Thanks.

Sounds like me 22 years ago. I spent 7 years as an Infantry Paratrooper and think it was possibly the best 7 years of my life.

Make sure he gets everything in writing as stated above. My younger brother wanted RIP but was told they didn't have any contract slots available, "they will ask for volunteers at the end of OSUT for RIP and Airborne". That didn't happen and he got stuck in a leg unit in Germany. [:/]

Whatever he decides tell him thanks for his service. B|

  6. To me a "sport" should have some competition to it. If you are competing in the US Nationals its probably a Sport.

For me its just something I do in my spare time, not an addiction, not the meaning of life, its just a hobby and I could really take it or leave it. Just my .02 B|

My biggest complaint about this event was the wait time to get on a load. I personally though it ludicrous to be told gear up and bring manifest your tickets, then when you got to manifest you were told it would be about 40 minutes before you boarded. I was told that policy was established by the DZ. It would have been a good policy it there were enough aircraft there so that you weren't standing around waiting for a plane for 40 minutes

I also thought that was a little ridiculous. I am not going to whine about the event but suffice to say it wasn't what I was expecting. I had the time off and the cash to jump for four days but after seeing how things were, I made two jumps got a refund on my other three tickets. I cut the trip short two days and just spent the time hanging with my non skydiver friends stationed up there.

  8. Try and demo some different rigs and canopies to see what you like.

I am exactly your height and weight and am very conservative in the gear dept. I have almost 500 jumps and I jump a Vector3 with a "Skyhook", my main is a Sabre2 210 and a PD 193 reserve. I also have a Cypress in there. I have had this rig for the past 300 jumps and am very happy with it. No need to downsize, I can make it back easily on windy days. I have soft stand up landings even on no wind days. The only thing is I don't look "Cool" jumping a big canopy. :D I would be happy jumping a T-10 if it would get me to the DZ every jump. I used to jump a fully eliptical 170 for about 80 jumps stood them all up never had a problem but I like my 210 batter.B|

  9. I have been a cop right here in central Florida for the last 13 years. I did 7 years in the Army before I went into law enforcement. There are a LOT of guys that go into law enforcement after retiring from the military. Unfortunately with the way the economy is right now, a lot of budgets are being cut. A lot of departments are cutting back on hiring and some are even laying off cops.

Shit, when you spend every other night of the week busting up other people's parties, its hard to sit down and enjoy one yourself eh?

:D No, I haven't worn a uniform in 8 years I don't answer calls ect. I am just there for the jumping and maybe a beer with my friends before I leave. I think most DZs don't want a cop hanging out after hours.;)

  11. I have the same thing on my Vector 3 pilot chute with freefly handle. My pilot chute has about 250 jumps on it though. Hold it up to the light and I bet there is a lot more damage than just the two little holes.
