It was written and distributed on December 28, 2001. The virus code is in Visual Basic. It is about 27 KB in size and is packed using Aspack. The worm uses Microsoft Outlook to send itself to all contacts in your Microsoft Outlook address book. Damage: Payload Trigger: Upon execution Payload: Large scale e-mailing: Utilizes Microsoft Outbook to mail everyone in the Outlook address book Deletes files: Attempts to delete antivirus software and files with the following extensions: .ini, .php, .exe, .com, .mpeg, .dat, .zip, .txt, .exe, .xls, .doc, and .jpg. Causes system instability: Critical system files may have been deleted Technical description: When the worm is executed for the first time, it will installs itself as \Windows\System\Win.exe. It then adds the value %System%\win.exe to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run so that the worm runs the next time that you start Windows. In most cases, however, because of the damage that is done by this worm, the computer will no longer load Windows. Next, the worm obtains the computer name. This is done because the worm is programmed to send email messages with a subject line that includes the name of the computer. The attachment that is sent with the message is an .exe file. The name used for this attached file is composed of the computer name plus the .exe extension, for example, Johns PC.exe. If the worm is executed a second time, the email message will have the subject "ZaCker" and an attachment named ZaCker.exe. This is because the worm renames the computer to "ZaCker." W32.Maldal.D@mm is a retroworm (a worm virus that actively attacks antivirus programs in an effort to prevent detection). It deletes antivirus programs NOTE: If the worm has already executed, it is likely that you will first have to reinstall the operating system and most (if not all) programs. In addition, most data files such as Microsoft Word documents, text files, and so on will have to be restored from a clean backup. ouch, is what i would say, if you couldn't be bothered to read all that, it means, your comptuer = buggered. don't execute this attachment! yeah, i wasnt trying to "have a go" at his descision, but i am quite scared that if i take 25 seconds under a "more serious" mal that i'm gunna get into some deep shit.... only 50 jumps, so i aint exactly as experienced as most of you

I just watched the "ripped main" video in the misc vid vault, and the camera stayed under his mal for 25 seconds before cutting away, from the sounds of it, he had some pain from the opening, but 25 seconds? seems like a lot? Ed

yeah, i spoke to my dad about it (doctor) and he thought it must have been due to congestion, but i honestly thought i was over the cold, ahh well, i'm outta the skies for a coupla weeks, the headache pain has pretty much gone now so that's ok, but as someone said, it was soooooo painful i could hardly bear it! Ed

at about 6 grand i noticed this really painful err pain in my left side of my head, i got under canopy and i could hear nothing, not even my own speaking, and it was also VERY painful, after i got down, through a lot of yawning/swallowing/holding nose and blowing i cleared my ears and was merely left with a very bad headachy pain above my left eye, that was my 50th jump, the 36th from full altitude, and i've never ever ever had anything like that before, what could it be? i had a cold last week but i'm over that except for a cough, can that be it?! this was possibly the most painful thing i ever experienced, and really scared me that i'd perforated my eardrums and my hearing would be buggered for the rest of my life! Ed

In... errr, 14 days i'll be living in Nottingham, and hopefully jumping at langer, so, anyone here who jumps there? otherwise i'll be a sad loner sitting in the corner (and don't malicously make that happen by not replying ) Ed

I have to say I lvoed jumping out of the Super Twin at Empuriabrava, you can do wicked floating exits on that and watching AFF going out after you is seriously kool! Have fun jumping it! Ed

I don't think that anyone should ever take offence over the internet, especially through forums and chat rooms, the words are being said by someone xxx miles away, dont let it get you down! As for bad feelings across these forums, why are there? as far as i can see, the skydiving community is generally (only been to empuria and a coupla english dz's so i am not particularily (sp?) experienced) ... back to original point .... here --> ... really friendly and nice, SO GET ALONG DAMNIT. We're all here because we want to live life to the full and get some serious speed rushes when we jump, so lets not let bad jokes or mis interpretted messages annoy us!. and if all else fails, go and smoke some happy plants! The money i save getting it cheap will probably go on the phone bill that it takes me to find it cheapest!! Anyway thanks everyone for the feedback, I think I may go for one when I find it as cheap as possible, beer is very important for my student diet so I can't afford to spend an extra 2 pints getting it for $5 more!. On another note, I know of SkyKat and Para-Gear but are there any other good equipment selling sites? can i get the thing direct from the manufacturer?
