  1. Something like that is what I thought might be part of the explanation too. But if there is a force, isn't there always an opposing force? And if an object didn't have any mass that the wind could catch to accelerate it, wouldn't it just stand still over the ground? So why don't objects with different shapes and size get affected different by the wind?
  2. I understand this, and I've heard so many people tell me this that I think it's very likely to be true. So I do use these facts when I calculate separation distance. Maybe most people think it's obvious and don't need an physical explanation, but I would like to know WHY it is like this.
  3. One of the main things behind the discussion about separation, is that airplanes, skydivers in freefall and canopies is affected by the wind the same way: Ex:The wind is 10 m/s. The freeflier is falling through the air. The freeflier is moving 10 m/s over the ground. A canopy has a forward speed of 9 m/s and is flying into the wind. The canopy is moving 1 m/s backwards compared to the ground. This is what I have learned to be true. But why is it true? Why is a canopy affected as much as a freeflyer and a airplane? Is it really true that all objects instantly takes the same horizontal speed as the wind, doesn't it take different time to accelerate objects to the same wind speed as the air mass, depending on the characteristics of the object? Why is a freeflyer and a belly flyer is affected the same way by the wind, if they are in freefall for the same amount of time? I hope someone understand what specific physic knowledge that I need to learn to understand this
  4. Do you think slider up openings is different in this aspect? Or do you think they have the same characteristics but more/less?
  5. I pulled the reserve on the ground by pulling the skyhook from the shackle where it attaches to the riser. 1. The reserve pin was pulled out of loop 2. The cutaway cable was pulled out of the three-ring loop 3. The skyhook was pulled I thought the cable was supposed to be pulled first (2, 1, 3). Does this mean the cutaway cable is too long? Or is the pin really supposed to be pulled first?
  6. Do you have a theory or even experience of the effect on openings on canopies with 0.5 lbs/sqft wingloading, compared to canopies with 0.7 wingloading?
  7. do you require anything else then money from a person you sell your second hand base rig to? would you sell rig second hand to someone who hasn't yet a mentor? would you require xx number of skydives or something like that?

    lor-2 pins

Does anyone know why the pin connected to the right riser should be on top on an atom with lor-2 pin system? And why can you disconnect the right riser pin? Since the right pin is on top, wouldn't you want the left pin to be the one to be disconnected? I'm sure there is a good reason for the current construction, I'm just curious what the reasons are.
  9. I received an addition to the PD manual, one of the things was that they strongly recommended not to use f-111 kill line pilot chutes. They even called f-111 kill line pilot chutes deadly. The short explanation was that f111 kill line pilot chutes lost kill line calibration quickly. And that f111 kill line pilot chutes caused strange openings. Is it really that bad? Didn't PD recently recommend f111 pilot chutes? Anyone knows the background to this statement or have the same opinion and a more detailed explanation?
  10. What problems occured when you started physical training to come back to skydiving? Did you experienced anything that was particular helpful on your way back to normal physical strenght? How long time did it take?

    Wing Loading

i'm loading my fox at 0.55. i've got less than 100 jumps with this setup so it would be interesting to hear what other people with
  12. Some people at my DZ have started to exit with their wings open. No one seems worried that a tailstrike might occur. I'm a little curious how other people exit and what you think about this.
  13. Is there any PD canopy except the Sabre that's out of production?
  14. how is that offset stitching done?
  15. I've heard that the difference in opening shock force between canopies with spectra / dacron lines is up to 300% on hard openings. Spectre is known to open soft, would it still be a noticeable difference if I change to dacron lines? Anyone compared dacron and spectra spectres?
  16. You could buy their new reserve pilot chute with concave top.
  17. Are there any other differences between sigma and sigma micron than reserve and main container sizes?
  18. I want to get ideas about training harnesses for practising emergency procedures. How do training harnesses at your dropzone simulate different parts of the skydive? (i.e: Freefall - what kind of way is the student held horizontal Pulling main - how is the change to vertical simulated, how are malfunctions simulated? Cutaway - are pull forces simulated? how is the back-to-freefall simulated? Pulling reserve- are pull forces simulated? how is the opening simulated how are mal functions simulated? Steering - how is steering simulated? General -how is height loss simulated?)
  19. How does a senior rigger become a master rigger in the US? If you are a master rigger - what training did you do before becoming a master rigger?
  20. Have you signed up for gear related newsletters (i.e. from manufacturers) that you have found interesting? Where did you sign up for them?
  21. same length, that's great, then I'll use a red skyhook lanyard from a unpacked sport rig. thanks!
  22. Have you, or do you know anyone, who has used the rsl instead of the reserve handle to pull the reserve? I mean a situation where you pull the rsl by hand, not when the main pulls the rsl. I'm interested to hear about your experience!
  23. how long is the red line on the skyhook rsl for sigma? I'm packing a rig on which this line seem to have been replaced by someone else, and I think the line might be too long.
  24. are the drouge release handles on sigma tandem called primary and secondary? which is which?
