I really liked hearing his thoughts on joining nylon via ultrasonic welding rather than stitching them together.

THAT would make a difference in parachute pack volume!

It has been tried on a canopy. Turned out it was impossible to pack.Kinda makes sense if you think about it a little.

  2. Any Wings container can be retrofitted with Boost. Only thing you need to send to factory is free bag/bridle. New style Boost RSLs are made of single piece Type 4 (unlike original Boost "extension")

Alternatively you could simply order new freebag w/Boost and compatible RSL and keep old one as spare.

The differences aren't important in most cases, but users and riggers should try to notice when a unit is half Vigil II and half Cuattro.

Serial number and DOM should be a dead giveaway.

  4. Anything that runs off of batteries will eventually run out of juice. As a matter of fact m2 is the only AAD currently on market that allows you to check the battery level.
The downside of using "exotic" parts or gear is that not everyone may be familiar with it.
Case in point: just last week I had a customer bring me a rig with m2 in it that still had cutter that has been recalled with SB in 2016. Rig was kept in date the entire time...

And I have one PEP manual that requires tube stows.:o Guess I better see if Roberto and Manley have revised it.

The last Javelin that I assembled for a customer (DOM 10/15) was shipped from factory with a bag of Tube Stoes. I believe Sunpath has acquired the patent/production rights for them. You could try contacting them.

  6. Frank has a great gear bag design with motorcycle (all weather) cover option that has a built in one way valve to eliminate pressurization. Sadly he no longer sells his products in US. He might still do business with Canada. Not cheap but worth every penny.

  7. Just came across an older container. No TSO/foreign approval markings of any kind.

Only identifying mark is a small label sewn on LH reserve riser:

    PS Product
    Type: Orion
    Fab.Dt. 07.Apr.1997
    Fab.No. 532

Anybody out there have an idea of where/by whom this was made?

  8. I have seen those on one of the early sponsored rigs. The geometry is very clean. If the extra cost for the option is not a deterrent for you, I'm pretty sure you'll end up being happy for choosing them.

  9. I've had my Oxygen helmet for many years now. I did initially experience issues with visor. After replacing it twice in a relatively short period of time, I removed it completely and opted for wearing well fitted sunglasses instead.
    End result: zero problems.
As a matter of fact Doug Parks offered to sell me a new helmet a few years back at a very nice price. I asked him instead to reline the old one :)I just couldn't part with all the stickers on it B|
The helmet is still holding just fine.

  10. Just out of curiosity.. how do you set the brakes on these babies?

Surely even the VPX-007 (or whatever the smallest handkerchief there is out there at the moment) deploys with brakes set.

I see it as fun-having equipment, first and foremost.

The rig then does stop me from dying shortly afterwards, but in that situation it's not, in my mind, its primary purpose or indeed my main concern.

Hmm... there seems to be something wrong here... Obviously gear is not the issue at hand. :S

  12. Have you tried asking your local riggers? There's a possibility that one or more of them have the know-how and materials required to make your existing leg pads more "user friendly".

  13. Just throwing this out here in hopes someone has this...

I am in need of a manual for Martin-Baker Horseshoe pack (MBEU type 15),
part of M-B Mk2 ejection seat.
So far had no luck searching for it online.
    Any help would be appreciated!

And lets not forget the basic idea behind the optimum. That you could put a larger reserve in your existing container. The very concept was to allow you to jump a LOWER wing loading then you were curently jumping which frankly I thought was great.

But, to no ones surprise really, it ended up as "hey, I can get same canopies in an even smaller container now".

  15. on sending e-mail, the page went blank for a moment and was then replaced by code. I guess I was "technically" still on the correct page as I could recognize e-mail addresses from my inbox in between the mumbo-jumbo. Hitting reload button brought back familiar picture, but during all this apparently the e-mail I was sending got sent out four times. At least that's how many times it is listed in my sent list.
    Interesting...

The rig in the pictures is an Infinity. When KellyF took the time to show me how to "safely" close mine, I figured he might know how to do it correctly.

I also received a PM from third party (not the company owner/operator) telling me that the rig portrayed in that photo is in fact Infinity. After double checking their manual I have to agree that the rig portrayed in the photo I referenced in my previous post is actually packed according to the manual.
    I stand corrected.

Actually, we think that the last picture is a "safe" way to close the container.

Actually, the "safer" way to close that particular container would be to shorten the closing loop - by a lot.
Without being able to tell what particular container or canopy is portrayed in that photo I can tell you that either:

    A) the container is WAY over-stuffed (that is, the main canopy is several sizes too large for the size of the main pack tray) or,

    B) the closing loop is WAY too long (granted that some manufacturers say their grommets should be "offset" - in this case the flaps don't even overlap!)

If you pack for yourself - pay attention!
If you have others pack for you - make sure they pay attention; or find someone else.

For what it's worth: the closing pins on the rigs I pack are always turned to where they resemble a smiley. One more reason to keep doing it that way.
