  1. How many of you have had a main flap come open in freefall? I have it on video. I am jumping an old DZ rental javelin J6 with velcro to close the main flap. I did a nice somersaulting exit and it came open immediately exposing the pin and bridle. Did not have a mal. This flap has gotten bumped in the plane and has come open. I have a feeling that in some of my less stable poised exits this has happended then as well.

Another experienced jumper saw it open and warned me.

    To the experienced jumpers:

I understand the potential of mals here. I brought this to the attention of the DZO. What do you think?

    Thanks,

  2. Welcome to the Family.

Newbie here too. Had a real problem with arching and landing. All it took was some good coaching and some practice and now I have my A License.

Come to Florida. The weather is 73 today.

My instructors encouraged me to not quit when I was having bad landings. I am glad I kept on.

Yes, I bought my BEER! Also, gave the instructors their own 12 pack.

    Just waiting for my number.

    Blue Skies to all.

  5. I have to go through a packing class and take my test.

I will still be, informally, a student after I get my A license as I learn everytime I jump.

  6. Buy a Merlin Suit. I got mine in 3 weeks. Christine's attention to detail was superb. It fit great. Had a less than perfect landing last week and tore the knee. (stood up then a gust got the canopy and pulled me over) The repair took an hour (can't even tell it's been repaired). I could have picked it up the next day but, waited till the next weekend.

    The charge was very reasonable.

Double kudos to Christine and PJ from Merlin

Too new to give any advice on the type of suit. Mine is a slightly baggy RW suit with no booties. It is comfortable. I have done RW and tracking with good results.

I chose to buy for comfort and fit reasons.

  7. I personally attend many board meetings as an interested "UNINVOLVED" party which are being held under the "executive session" rule. I have had to sign a non-disclosure contract to which I am legally bound.

Perhaps this may be an option.

As far as the USPA getting involved, if Skyride is defrauding people, then they are hurting the legitimacy of our sport as a whole. If their supposed actions continue, much legitimate business could be lost due to the bad publicity and some DZ's could suffer due to the decrease in revenue.

It only takes one bad apple to sour the mash.

Do you want the opinion of the general public to be one of disdane for our sport.

I personally support the USPA's investigation of this matter and any steps they deem necessary to protect the image of Safety, Quality, Legitimacy, and Brotherhood which our sport has come to represent.

  8. Welcome to the Sane Assylum!

Warning Skydiving can be very addictive.

It is for me. Went for 2 tandems on my birthday in October. I now have 38 jumps. I found AFF to be very easy and full of skills you will use. Did my 3rd 2-way yesterday. It was awesome.

Hope to jump with you soon.

  9. Welcome to the sport. I got addicted too. Did 2 tandems that day.

I have heard of people getting AFF cert in a few days (1 jump - 1 level)

I personally took 7 weeks and had to repeat L1 and L2.
    Was going only on weekends.

Only thing I will say is: Relax. Once you do, it is very easy.

    Blue skies and soft landings,

    SJ
