Ditto that. We are all interested in improvements to the process!

    interested - sure.

willing to help - doesn't seem so.

a few people have said it in this thread - you can make anything work for the most part. Sure it's now judgeable, would you make a bet that I can type a word a minute? Of course not, because you know I can. Records should be something special, something that is above and beyond. The current criteria does not make that differentiation. To me (and others) these 'records' hold little merit as 'records' and should not be adopted by the world unless we have a better judging system that really shows some talent.

  3. I'm not really around chicago much anymore, so I would be no help. if you meet certain requirements and there's a suit that would fit you, brian at CSC could help you and would be your best bet in the area. drop me a pm with a number i can reach you at and I'll see what we can do.

  4. Now that's a much nicer looking formation! Congrats guys. Though, I do hope the fall rates were slower than 80 this time;)

Taya - since the one I commented on is not being used for submission could you please send me a copy of that first formation for personal use?

Brian -there have been many more solid formations or main parts of larger formations that have looked great (pictures in hand) - take the 35 way from the record. that was nice. "4x" was a random quantifier to prove a point and provoke discussion.

I don't discount a use of a grid for judging purposes, but I think Stoney said it close to how I and other who aren't as vocal feel - "Moving the "measurement tool gid" all around to get the one best "fit",... even if it puts the base off tp one side or well forward or behind in whatever geometric shape is being used,.... just seems (to me) "wrong somehow" and )for me) it actaully seems to "skew" the formation's essence of symmetry and opens any conclusions of judging to skeptics and potential detractor's comments. ( that then seems to lemd itself to pushing some flyers apart rather then pulling flyers together)

The main problem is with be best fit and the tolerance that the current grid and rules allow for. It makes it far to easy to match the grid that we've eyeballed, said was pretty, etc in the past to what would generally fit the current grid.

There is also no fall rate limits (though hard to abet and enforce). We've never considered 80mph+ flocking true flocking.. I may as well put on some booties and go track in the group.. if i need wings, camera suit.

I'd like to see and be part of a tight grid over a what was deemed 'record' spacing last year any day. Why? The tolerances that you need to fly and hold your position are far less.. resulting is more and better skill and IMO better looking pictures. Don't get me wrong, I've been doing this long enough where I also know what it provides in large formations.

Taya and her group did what they set out to do - provide some standard, get people interested, get people talking, make some progress for wingsuiting as a true discipline. I applaud that. Just don't get too comfy on the current judging rules. Given a little time they will become more strict and show that we should really be showing, but there currently aren't enough people out there to really build something really large [the way I see it]. We'll get there. It's a stepping point in history :)

  5. hmm..if that's the wingsuit record picture, that's a regression of 'good' wingsuit formation. I mean the person to the left of Sobe (two back from the base) wasn't in his slot according to our older 'unofficial' standards. Same thing goes with the person in the front two back as well as four back from the base on the right side. (keep in mind the picture is shot from underneath). I can think of the countless pictures from the earlier years that were 4x better.B|

    (steps off soap box;):P)

  6. the second 'collision' was on the same jump after it rebuilt from the first one.
Nice to see all our video made it in there. I'm actually surprised what they used or rather didn't use. I did like how some people landed on the beach and some people didn't:D

  7. yuri, I don't think that is an approved formation since it was taken from the larger 71 way and the tip/centering would be a bit different with only 10 people. I agree that it looks awful and it if was classified as a 'good' formation based upon the new criteria, I'd strongly be against this judging.

This grid does have many shortcomings as many people have pointed out. from lens distortion to flyer placement, 2d formations only. I've never been a fan of the spacing used at the record.. and unless you scale the grid down a tight formation will not be judged as successful.. . I've never been a fan of the spacing and never will. I feel it's a fix to allow for talent that isn't there in the majority of the people that fly right now. Numerous people are not really learning how to fly their suit as they should. The largest slot specific formation is still a tight 16 way diamond done by both the west and east coasts IMO.. there were pieces of the 71 way that looked good, but a successful piece of a larger formation does not make it successful (even after breakoff). What will happen then if this go into effect and we want to judging criteria to be different/better than the current method which only seems fully supported by relatively small group of proven flockers.

So right now we cannot get records with any aerobatics or 3d formations. For aerobatics - we need to look at freestyle and artistic freefly in order to come up with some moves or criteria for those to be judged on too. What about 3d? Would we need to camera angles? What's the max height a 'stack' should allow for?

Dont get me wrong. I'm happy there is progress and the effort others have put into this, but I still feel that it's premature as there are still many shortcomings that need to be sorted through and not just allow for working with the limited talent that exists in a specific form of flying/wingsuiting today.

I don't think it's so much "Americans have no clue about the rest of the world", as much as "Americans don't usually purchase products from overseas directly."

hmm, I think it's actually both. You surround yourself with like people and work in a pretty global industry. Have you talked with your average person in the US? Those not generally around a big city?[:/]

  9. so then I see how it was necessary to say Jarno isn't very bright in your other post for no reason when he was just stating facts and showing you it was nothing surprising... I see how this was only related to wingsuits (and /or base gear from your basejumper post), not just gear or anything. ..makes sense to me!

I'm sure fedex looks at this site all the time and would link your real user name on here to that specific package:S. I still stand by my original post.

oh and besides we all already know jarno isn't a bright chap. I didn't bust your balls on that topic so be happy.

You're not very bright are you mccordia?

This is simply an FYI for those that DO NOT KNOW this iformation (i.e. ME). You happen to know this information, so don't read the F'n post...

no, you are the idiot. Heck, you felt it was necessary to hid your identity by making another dz.com and basejumper.com account. Are we 4? And for some reason you thought it was only relevant for wingsuits, not just any merchandise oversees.
Many WS websites mention potential customs fees. Heck I know some vendors have a shipping option where they take care of the fees. You never thought about researching shipping internationally?

I worry what else you don't research and think everyone else should know about. Did you know they have sales tax too in the US? Look at a receipt.Toll roads make you pay for them.. Who ever knew that!?! They never told me when I took that turn! I mean wtf! .. ya know what go ahead and continue to skydive and (potentially) base jump. Just pls dont fly a wingsuit. we already have enough people that try to kill me. :D;)I believe in darwinism. More power to you.

    QED.

Hey DSE can you let us know who's IPs match up to this account and their other account? :P

  13. it's been than way for years. One or two people will pull them out from time to time, but it's rare. There are two or so more that have suits, but they never fly them.
kallend, how many ws jumps have you done those years... how about those that weren't solos... or those with a better flier than you? just summerfest I'm sure..I'm just saying..

Skittles - got have fun with Perry and learn a few things. Will see you both at CSC for the 4th.
