  1. This is a common problem when doing VS. People will argue that one is better then the other, not because they have tried both but they spent their time, money or are related to one of the items.(ie vendor, testing ect..) The problem is that other people will believe your biased statement. Anyway...So you are saying that this NEOS is a different beast all together when comparing to a XF2 or GLSxf, so then I guess what we really need to compare it to is the JVX, right? 2. Am I the only one to notice?? This thread started Oct. 23...It is now Feb, one month has come and gone. Did you pass??? What was it like? What do you think helped or didn't help the most? Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  3. Absolutely not true. I know at least five people that are flying discounted/sponsored JVX canopies. I don't even know why they would WANT to say that. Yea I thought that was odd as well, I don't know why Jim would say that then. Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  4. Have you jumped a GLS XF? This is the reply from Daedalus Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  5. I use the term "pins out" so that is the altitude that my main pin is removed from the main closing loop. "in the saddle" refers to when the parachutist is under a full canopy and has the ability to make evasive manuvers to avoid other parachutists. exactly, group seperation is most important. Some things to consider. How many of us get our altimeters chambered? How often? Alti's will usually vary about 250-500 ft. not to mention the difference between your wrist mounted alti and an audio in your helmet. Also canopy's take different amount of altitude to open. For example with my x-fire if I am "pins out" at 2000 I won't expect to be in the saddle until around 1300. These are all things to think about. I hope this helps people to realize how important it is to have proper group and horizontal seperation. Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  6. This is a subject that can't be talked about enough. I had the same thing almost happen to me two weeks ago but take out newb and insert WELL experienced jumpers. Just because you gave yourself a bad spot please don't comprimise others by tracking up the line of flight and then pulling high while proceding to fly your canopy up the line of flight...I will make a new topic on this subject when I get some time. 7. This is something that I started thinking about a couple weeks ago and I wanted to hear what other people thought. I feel that with Tandem it is introducing more people to the sport. Skydiving is now in the reach of a larger audience. The only problem is that I think less and less people are wanting to go through the AFF program and would just rather do a tandem. Do you think that is one of the reasons membership is going down? It almost seems to be a double edge sword. Let me know what you think! 8. I'm going on a buisness trip to Key West for a couple weeks in Feb and I'm looking for a DZ that is close...The only one I found said $35 for a lift to 10,000ft and absolutely no wing loading more than 1.2 and a D licence with 500 jumps...So that ones out, I'm loaded at a 1.5 and my friend is a 1.8. With that in mind where would be the best place to hit up that's not too far away for the weekends? Thanks! Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  9. I've had my crossfire for a year now. The openings are by far the best I have experenced! With other mains I dread the thwack!! It usually takes anywhere from 800-1000ft to open. I never really thought about the glide until last weekend when we did a tracking dive and we all ended up long. During the de-brief everyone was concerened about getting back to the landing area. (of course I had to track away from the DZ) I left my brakes stowed and actually had to loose some altidude. I was amazed that others were having trouble returning. The flare is simply amazing! The only thing is that I wish I would of loaded this canopy more, I feel there is more potential that I can't reach. I'm currently at a 1.5 If you buy this canopy I assure that you won't be dissapointed! I hope this helps
  10. I use a Oxygen A3 and never had and issue of fogging up. I'm not sure if I would try this on my skydiving helmet, but for my diving mask I would smear tooth paste on it and let it dry. Then right before the dive I would rinse it out and wouldn't fog. Hope this helps -- Johan Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  11. The Icarus site a great place to start (If you want to learn) This is the way that I do it. There are differnt methods. I still flake out my canopy like I'm going to PRO pack. When I lay it down I induce half a line twist. (Lay it down with the nose up) Cross the tail and then roll it up, like you roll your sleeping bag to get it to fit in the carrying bag. Keeping the bridle clear off to the side. then I turn my d-bag upside down and put the canopy in. here comes the tricky part. I need to turn the d-bag the opposite way that I layed the canopy down. To get out the half twist that I induced earlier. If I turn the d-bag the wrong way...guess what, I just packed myrself a full line twist. That's about it. I have found it a great way to pack a new canopy because you are rolling out all of the air. It doesn't have a chance to re-inflate on you when your trying to stuff it into the bag. It's a quick and clean way to pack. Please do not try this for the first time until you know for sure it's OK with YOUR canopy and have guidance with someone who is proficient with packing this method...Hope this helps! -- Johan Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  12. Thank you everyone for a reply!! I'll be sure to relay the message to my friend, since I'll have to teach him how to pack. I started to Psyco pack when I had my Saber 2 due to a constant off heading openings. Believe it or not it was a fix! Then I bought a Safire 2 which the factory recomends the psyco. I currently have a crossfire 2 (Also made my Icarus) which recomended against the it. That is why I was asking about the Pilot. I wasn't sure if maybe there was something with the design of the wing that would make this packing style not feasable. Thanks to everyone again!! -- Johan Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
  13. A friend of mine just got a new Icon with a Pilot main (169) Has anyone had experence with this main and Psyco packing? This is the way that I pack my safire 2 and it makes it much easier with new canopies. I don't want to give him bad advice if it's not recomended. Thanks! -- Johan Keep going faster until the joy of speed overcomes the fear of death.
