Stupidest thing you've ever done on a skydive...

The stupidest thing I'm yet to do: Return to skydiving after a seven year hiatus because my Vigil still has some life left in it -

I went Scuba Diving earlier in the afternoon -
Even though I'm here in Funchal where the demo jump took place, it was NYE and I had completely forgotten about it by the time it took place, serves me right! https://www.instagram.com/tv/CYLA-VWFTQN/

Seems like a good metaphor for Brexit anyway

David Davis is currently Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Is there anything to corroborate this claim? https://www.politico.eu/article/david-davis-profile-the-brawler-date-with-destiny/

Thanks - You're right, but that was a bit cryptic. At least this thread will at as a signpost for others looking to discuss.

Very surprised to see that there don't appear to be any threads discussing the stunt-work in this movie...

Room to Rent Early September for Lodi, CA ?
UKKid35 replied to UKKid35's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hi Katscan, thanks a lot for your reply, I have tried everything but VBRO - but they are quoting $200 p/n. I'll probably book a couple of nights via AirBnB and hopefully that will give me a chance to find something more reasonable. Alternatively I may just drive to Perris/Elsinore if things don't work out as I have two weeks to enjoy. -

Sadly excluded by my current insurer: "If You have bought a Premier policy, Your policy can be extended to cover the following Special Sports and Activities for an additional premium, but no cover will apply in respect of any Personal Accident or Personal Liability claims, and the Policy Excess will be increased to £250 under Section 2 (Medical Emergency & Repatriation)"

I'm not a BPA member, and I doubt £100k would be deemed sufficient at most DZs, certainly not in the US. I am a UK resident USPA member.

I have just been told by a DZ in Belgium that they need proof of insurance, or I would have to take out annual membership costing 180 Euros, which is a bit excessive for an afternoon when I might only jump a couple of times. What are my third party insurance options?

Last week I contacted Sky-Fun at Dahlemer-Binz about jumping in Germany, this was the reply: Thank you for your request. You're welcome to come to us for jumping. The charge reads as follows: Height 4,000 meters € 28, - per jump. Simply come and bring your license. Sincerely yours No guarantee that Stadtlohn will be the same, but it's a start. As it happens I'll be in the Netherlands next weekend, and I was hoping to jump near Heerlen and the best options should be Schaffen, but they had strange insurance concerns last time I tried, so I ended up jumping at Spa instead. Your best plan is always to contact the DZ in advance and try to find out what the local issues are.

Room to Rent Early September for Lodi, CA ?
UKKid35 replied to UKKid35's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Anyone have a room to rent for first couple of weeks in September? I know the Parachute Centre has a bunkhouse, so that's an option, but somewhere slightly more comfortable and near shops & restaurants would be even better. -
Spa, Belgium Threat of Closure and Petition
UKKid35 replied to UKKid35's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Please support Spa by signing their petition http://www.skydivespa.be/en/medias-news-38-Possibility-of-a-temporary-closure-of-the-aerodrome.html https://www.lapetition.be/en-ligne/Pour-la-sauvegarde-de-l-aerodrome-de-Spa-et-la-sauvegarde-de-l-emploi-12563.html -
Only been to Pepperell No cheap accommodation that I could find other than camping (not my thing) Skydive only airstrip - a first for me and something of a luxury Land off in fairly tame surroundings - maize fields, private gardens etc A really good experience for me during an unexpected warm spell in August '09

So my very late feedback is: Great staff, good vibe Very slow, makes the UK seem hurried Seemed like there was a daily 4 hour lunch break Winds (in September) meant no jumps from midday until late afternoon, if you're lucky Views to die for, seriously classic backdrops that even a philistine line me can really appreciate Opportunity to go scuba diving nearby (did I really say that?) Go to Ephesus if you want culture with a bit of skydiving, not the other way round

Is there any Bunkhouse type accommodation either on site or offered by other skydivers at any of the San Francisco area DZs?
-
I'm planning a two week trip for early September, is San Francisco the right place to go? I was thinking of starting at the Parachute Centre and then perhaps Bay Area. This is probably going to be my only real chance to jump this year, so I don't want to waste it. Any thoughts very welcome.

Gap-Tallard is the obvious place to go, only 3hrs away by road. If you hire a car you can go via Digne on Route de Napoleon, now that is a truly classic drive.

Where is the most beautiful place you've jumped?
UKKid35 replied to scargill's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Ephesus in Turkey, can't beat those amphitheatres Skydive Sicilia looked beautiful, but couldn't jump due to weather when I visited -
At last there is a serious attempt to control Mosquitoes through genetic engineering, sadly this is only to combat Dengue Fever as the Malaria virus is far more diverse and therefore more difficult to target. Sadly too late for Andy Irons, but if these tropical diseases did affect the more affluent nations no doubt they'd be under control by now.
