    With my XTi, The quick release plate partially covers the battey door. I am not sure about the T3 but I suspect that would be the case as well.

    So you would have to disconnect the remote shutter release (to keep from stressing that connection/cable) remove the camera from the helmet, loosen the quick release plate (with a screwdriver or coin), spin the plate to get to the battery door, open the door and remove the card.

    Now ya gotta install the new card, close the batt door, spin the QR plate back into the proper position, tighten it down (here comes the screwdriver or coin again), snap the camera back on the helmet and reconnect the shutter release.

    Oh Yeah, you have to swap rigs and meet your next student.

    Now imagine its cold outside and you have gloves on! :S All while the plane is sitting in the loading area with the prop(s) spinning waiting on YOU!;)

    I just don't see this camera as a good choice for a full time photog. Maybe for the guy who jumps at a small dz or only helps out in the rotation with plenty of time on his hands.

    Ok, I get you. But, on my quick release, you cen change the battery without removing unscrewing it. That was the point of it in the first place. To change battery and memory card the quick way...

  6. OK. I get it now. Internship is related (mostly) to students. It is mandatory for our students to get some internship time in order to graduate.

    From this post I understood that when you finish your college, you have to work for free some time to maybe/maybe not get a job.
    I payed for most of my school by myself so I so I had a problem with this concept. I mean, you have to live of something while you are doing internship.
    If you are not getting paid, you have to work anoter job, or you could still be at a college or you could live with your parents. You have to eat somehow.

    But if you don`t do internship as a college kid, what are your options after you graduate? Eight hours a day doing internship, then flipping burgers for eight more and do that for couple of years. And then after couple of years of internship you can maybe get a job? Did I get it right?

    That's what I did. Worked for free for years on everything from stage lighting to flight simulators to some of the early NuBUS specifications.

  11. This flare you linked seems too weak for getting the effect like on that video.
    Whatever you use keep in mind that it flares generate a lot of heat so you should secure it somehow away from canopy/equipment and from your body.
    I think the usual application would be hanging the flare beneath you by the steel wire.
    As I read here, Airtwardo has lots of experience with this stuff. I have recently read some of his interesting stories from "back in the day" with jumping with pyro. So you might ask him. (helped me with my fluour-sock jumps)

    Another thing to consider... Night demo? Landing area size? Feel up to it?

    b images had their curves tweaked. Think they look good pretty damn good. After all my medical bills for my neck, I don't feel the weight of a 50d (etc) with a 15mm prime is worth the quality difference for a tandem customer. Now for commercial (non-daily) use that is a different story. To each their own though.

    I guess it all depends what is an acceptable product for your customer and conforming with the other photographers at your DZ. With that said, I know a few DZ's that sell GoPro HD photos instead of SLR photos.

    With that said, they are a bit grainy vs sharp zoomed in. Looks like it would make a good 8x10 though. Feel free to print one out and let us know.

    I can speak only for a original GoPro.
    Print the two pics side by side and it`s two worlds (printed on Letter format).

    Here, every other new camera flyer uses gopro/contour. Some for video, some for both video and stills. Of course, quality sucks, but the customers doesn`t seem to mind [:/] They don`t know better. Most of the (new) jumpers also see no difference (which speaks volumes by itself) and can`t comprehend it even if it`s shown to them. :|

    It got me to the point where I`m also considering ditching FTP/CX/Rebel, lowering my standards and doing gopro (vids/stills). Though I know it would suck, but what the hell? Customers woudn`t notice, almost no other camera guy would notice. Better for the neck.
    Still, conforming to majority and lower standards sucks.:S

    Well, you can sell anything these days...

  14. This is the link to a video of stall/crash that I mentioned.
    And this is thread about it here.

    I think there is a video of another compair stall out there but I`m not sure.
    Someone mentioned small tail surfaces which would make stall exit procedure more difficult.

    My point is, if you were running experimental AC and shit like this happen, authorities would be all over it and that would be the end (for you, your skydiving operation, experimental AC usage etc...).

    Better solution to cheap turboprop would be SM-92T TURBO-FINIST. It`s rather cheap and it`s not experimental.

    CSPA went through this battle 20 years ago.
    Eventually, Transport Canada concluded that all skydiving students are the same as airline passengers, ergo all skydiving airplanes in Canada must be commercially registered, flown by commercial pilots and maintained to commercial standards.
    Only a handful of skydiving clubs still operate in Canada, but all their airplanes are commercially registered.


    Similar future awaits in this country too... [:/]

    The very lack of these made this movie tolerable for me. Although I appreciate entertainment that stimulates thought, I resent having ideology fed to me. The lack of heros, the absence of a "good fight," and the vilification of all sides resulted in brain-dead, shock-value entertainment, and I can enjoy that once in awhile.



    I get the "no winning side" attitude, and that`s OK. Actually very different from mainstream movies. But to me, there is not much to stand out to make this above average movie.

    +1 on that. I don`t see it as overly serious. But as I said, than it has to have good thriller/horror/action note, which this movie lacks.

    Watched it last night.
    I would rate it 6/10 and that just for the shock factor in some scenes. After watching the trailer I expected more from this movie. Stronger statement? More biased (any side)? More horror/thriller? More tense? It starts good in every one of those, but nothing more.
    After "The End" it was "Meh... It sucks, but whatever... Watcha gonna do..."

    Then again, I live 10.000 miles away so I guess I`m not into all this (religion vs. government) as you US people are. We have different issues here [:/]

  20. They seem to be popular in South America. Skydive Andes operates one.
    I heard that there is one in Finland, but info was second hand and I`m not sure if it is used for skydiving.

    OTOH, if I remember correctly, there were at least two videos online of Compair stalls and resulting back-spin which ended in total destruction of the plane. Coincidence?

  23. The quality of printed pictures in uncomparable in favor of DSLR.
    If you coud just look at two same 8.5 x 11 prints side by side you could see huge difference.

    Shooting tandems, you have to fly real close if you want to have good nice close up shot with gopro.
