    AADs

Would some of you riggers who have some hard data please comment on the AADs on the market. Is the savings on one worth the proven track record of another? Are there any known problems with any of them? Which one would or do you use and why? Thanks, JD
  2. My Cypress expires in Mar 09. That worked out with my re-pack cycle until the cycle was extended. Can I continue to jump with the cypress installed until the repack is due or do I have to have it removed?
  3. I have an Aerodyne Diablo that needs a new line set. Are there any riggers out there still doing relines for these canopies? If so, what's the cost and turn around time? Thanks, JD
  4. Can I remove my AAD myself or do I need a rigger to do it? I'm selling my container without the AAD and want to know if there is any trick to removing the Cypres. I don't want to have to take it to a rigger if I can do it myself.
  5. A leather hat use to be the cool thing to wear because the alternative was a motorcycle helmet. Hard helmets have saved a lot of head injuries in freefall and on the ground. Just like with motorcycle helmets though , there are always going to be people who don't think the added safety is worth the money or being closed in. I love a hard helmet because the wind noise is so much less and I enjoy the skydive more. Some people like the wind though. I'll still take the safety factor. I've been hit hard enough in freefall that I was glad to have a hard helmet on.
  6. I have a 170 in a J4 and it's still al loose fit. If you just shorten the closing loop the top flap will end up too far dwon to get the tuck tab to stay in place. At least that's been my experience.
  7. It looks to me more like Skyride is bringing in business that wasn't there to start with. As I understand it, they pay the DZ it's going rate for a tandem but charge the customer a higher amount. The customer is the one who should be mad. If the DZs tell all of the Skyride customers that they got screwed and offer that customer a fee for bringing in new tandems as a way to get their money back, the DZ gets more business through word of mouth and the customer gets some of his money back. Skyride gets the bad press. Just a thought.
  8. Hey It wouldn't be a drop zone without some drama. Quincy is a fun DZ with all good folks but it is a DZ and sometimes friendships get crossed up with business and somebody gets pissed. being a bunch of skydivers though we never stay pissed for too long. :) When you coming back to see us?
  9. I think the drama came about when there were two organizers who were only getting their slot comped if they had 10 or more jumpers. For some reason they were offended when anyone tried to put together a skydive that was not organized by one of them. I like both of the organizers and both are very capable. I've been to a whole lot of DZs and the purpose of an organizer is to organize those who want to be organized, not to demand that everyone jump with them. Sorry if I offended either of them but I don't pay $20 a pop to do a whole day of below average big ways rather than shit hot smaller stuff just so an organizer gets a free slot. Having said that, I had a great time at a great boogie and hope all the ruffled feathers can be smoothed over. Thanks to everyone who was there.
  10. I'm going up to Cross keys in July. Does anyone know the best motel there? I got some names from the DZ but don't want to end up in some dive. So far I have the Rest Inn, Red Carpet Inn, and the HoJo in Blackwood. Any good tips pro or con on these or otheres would be helpful. Thanks, JD
