  1. I took ASL in college and was wondering if there was anyone at crosskeys i could sign with.... I'm kinda rusty right now, but would love to practice :)
  2. welcome! where're you going to do your first jump? :)
  3. Hey -- I'm gonna be in victoria/vancouver, BC for two weeks, and I'll be damned if i'm gonna miss two weekends of skydiving! if anyone out there jumps near either of those two cities... give a shout! i'd love to NOT be completely lost when I head out to the dropzones out there :)
  4. I finished AFP today! did my levels 5,6,7 and a high solo to celebrate :) I may be poorer now by a case of beer, but i'm wayyyy wired now!! huge thanks to all the crosskeys folk -- you guys rock! now to get that A license.....
  5. hey -- is there anyone out there who might be able to give me a ride from philadelphia to skydive crosskeys tomorrow (saturday 4/17)? PM me! :)
  6. only 6 (three tandems, three AFP)... and already this newfound obsession is making me go broke. i'm trying to find a psych professor who wants to study risky behaviour or extreme sports psychology or something who will pay me to hand out questionnaires or something at the drop zone :P YOU NEVER KNOW, Y'KNOW, IT MIGHT HAPPEN :) and hell, if i could find someone who would pay their subjects with jump tickets, then everyone wins.
  7. I've been told that 24hrs is the wait-time repeatedly by one instructor.... the last time i gave blood i jumped about 4 days after. no problems whatsoever. but then i never have any trouble after giving blood, which isn't the case for a lot of other people. you have to know your own system... (and then wait an extra day or two to be safe :)
  8. hey just my $0.02 but I'm in the middle of AFP right now, and I'm really glad I did a tandem progression. I know a lot of people want to get right to 'doing it by yourself', but i found the tandems REALLY helpful, for two main reasons. 1) i had so much sensory information hitting my system on my first jump that it was hard to focus on anything i had been taught. i hear it's the same for most people :) So it was nice to know that i didn't have to worry too much about getting things quite right. 2) being under canopy WITH an instructor was invaluable. it was so helpful, having my instructor walk me through checking my canopy, steering, flaring, landing, etc. they described it all to me on the ground, but it makes much more sense in the air when it's actually happening, and it was great to have an instructor there WITH me, explaining everything. basically with the tandem progression it seems like you can do a lot of the learning and training at a much lower stress level, which I really appreciated :)
  9. same here. i know in the long run it's more cost efficient to get my own gear, but i just don't have the cash for it right now, and i'm a little nervous about making that large an investment when I don't know all that much about gear yet! that said, people here are really helpful :)
  10. I learnt to pack after my first AFP jump -- it was a crummy day and they thought I was mad for showing up, but they offered to give me an unscheduled packing lesson, which was cool. I'm glad I learnt -- it makes me feel much more secure about jumping. knowledge is power eh :) and yesterday I packed my own chute and jumped it! possibly the most nervewrecking 3 seconds of my as yet brief skydiving career, but very satisfying to land and know you survived your own pack job! Almost made up for the embarassment from my god-awful landing -- I flared LATE. anyway. i plan to practice whenever I can -- ultimately i want to always be packing my own gear. saves money, and makes my skydiving experience much more -mine- :)
  11. Thanks! I'm going to start staring at everyone at the dz now and figure out how their jumpsuit relates to what they wanna do in the air :)
  12. So what're the proper places to have drag for FF and RW, and why? :) also, how do booties help?
  13. ok. i understand that by getting into skydiving i have committed to being broke for most of the rest of my life. :) or at least that's the impression i get from everyone around me at the DZ. So I suppose there's no way to get cheap, safe gear. but does anyone have any recommendations for how-not-to-go-ABSOLUTELY-broke buying gear?
  14. ok -- i'm totally new to all this, so forgive the idiotic questions :) What's the difference between freefly suits and RW suits, and why? also, how necessary are jumpsuits to begin with? I see people jumping shirtless or in shorts and what have you -- so when does a jumpsuit become necessary?
  15. One tandem jump three years ago and I was revved to go. for three years i didn't have the time or money to continue.... then, a month ago, I decided, to hell with it. i still don't have time or money, but i couldn't wait any longer :) Now I'm halfway through AFP (just cleared level 4 -- onto level 5!!) and completely wired. oh. and broke. heh. so...just saying hi to who all is out there :) btw, any singaporeans around here?
