I certainly won't argue any ones points about tandem over AFF, but being the aggressive soul that I am, will always recommend AFF for anyone who thinks they want to get into it. I love doing tandems: certainly no pressure for the student, I get to have fun, and it is easy money for me, just don't feel there is any substitute for feeling your own body in freefall. Have a good one.

You can also purchase a lead belly-weights. Yes...I, too, preach to my students, "learn to fly your body", but there are times when weights are needed. As you gain more experience, you will relax more in freefall, allowing for more arch. If someone at the DZ has weights, give them a try.

Neuman makes some really nice winter receiver gloves, too. Not too thick, but very warm.

How about the analogy, "If you want to learn to drive, don't sit in the backseat of a the taxi."
If you have ANY thoughts of getting into the sport, don't waste your money on tandems. You will have two qualified instructors with grips on you, from the time you leave the plane to the time you, or your instructor, deploy your canopy. People can argue both methods of learning, it depends on how much money you have.

I attached a rubber band to it, when I owned a Jonathon, and secured the steering lines in the rubber band. It is to prevent line overs and, provide slower openings.

We will have one of Spaceland's Otters at Texas Skydiving Center (Lexington) this weekend. We are celebrating 5 years of operation, come join us!!
I believe there will be an informal video seminar all weekend, as well.

I own two Cobalts, both 95 @ 2.2 loading, one H-mod, one Competition. I did have problems at first with very hard openings. Went to a smaller pilot chute, 22", and routed the rubber bands such that they are smaller, for the smaller lines, and the issues have worked themselves out. I do not stuff the nose, but do roll the tail tight. Good luck.

I own an H-mod and a competition. The comp. model definetely dives steeper. The openings are better than the H-mod.
Certainly, to the point of gravity, the comp. model is not for low experience. Go for the regular model, and really get to know it, then move to Comp. The canopies are GREAT!

Because if you use one rig more than the other, you still get very good protection for the price. I have a main and a backup rig, and I have a cypres in the main one. I jump it 95% of the time, so I often have the benefit of having one.
I use both of my rigs all day, back to back, the only reason for owning 2 rigs. I don't have the luxury of using one 95% of the day. Small DZ, limited staff, jump hard.

OK, I give up. I really just want someone to give me one.
I am cheap. I choose not to make the investment. Lame excuse. Sorry.

Hmmm.... At an average price of $17.50 a jump you could afford a Cypres if you were willing to take two weeks off. Here's the simple math:
* $17.50 * 50 = $875.00
I should have clarified, that is an average of working jumps a weekend-getting paid. Can I afford one, no.

Since I started the "I can't afford one" argument, I feel obligated to state my financial situation. Yes, I have a brand new container, brand new canopy, several jumpsuits, most of the tools required to earn supplemental income on the weekends-to pay for two year old daughter's daycare/diapers/clothes, two vehicles, mortgage payment, etc...
I will agree, without hesitation, that if it were required, I WOULD find the money, somehow. Maybe a third job!!!
Can I afford two Cypresses-why have only one Cypress if you have two rigs (for work)-NO. Is this a lame excuse, I don't think so. Do I want a Cypress, hell yes, I have a family. I average 25 a jumps a weekend. I know the importance of having one. Can I afford one, no.

I have been jumping for 15 years. The majority of my jumps, for the past 8 years, are working jumps.
I would LOVE to put a cypress in each of my rigs. My problem, $$$. Is this a cop out, perhaps. I just can't afford them. Maybe they will become affordable for all one day!
