  1. You're on the right "track"

    My advice:

-read all the ws fourms on the net, you can pick up a lot.
-think about getting track pants / jacket. With practice you can cover as much ground as a classic ;)
-talk to the ws pilots on your DZ

Wow, with a little practice with atmonouti we could potentially fly a line for two thirds of the jump, break off, track away from each other, and all dump over the lighthouse.

Good luck jimmy. Certainly an ambitous idea.
    I'll video!

What is the basis for your comparison?

For performance, when I jumped the V-1 from MB in Italy I flew further and opened higher than with my old S3 (now sold :()

Some guy from Croatia experienced the same thing:P

Ie how many S3 and V1 flights do you have?

I would have to check my log book for accurate numbers, but approx 200 S3 flights split 50/50 plane and fixed.

For the V-1 a grande total of 5 all fixed.

I plan on doing a bunch of plane jumps in the next couple of weeks (weather permitting).

The V-1s are shipping, so soon there will be other people you can pick on Will :P

I would like to know the major differences, if any, between the two wingsuits. Pro's/Con's of both too if you don't mind.

    Hi Steve,

I think my post from a while back "V-1 Flight Review" may answer some of your questions:

    copy & paste:
    ------------------------------------------------------------
I flew the Vampire V-1 this weekend. I was totally blown away. The suit is simply awesome. The first thing I said to Robert when I landed was "When will mine be ready?!"

Whilst attaching the suit to my rig I began to notice all the great new design features that Robert has incorporated. Not just the performance increasing stuff but also the attention to detail that makes the suit more comfortable to wear and use. For example:

    - booties are made from high grade leather (same stuff they use for Porsche seats!), so will be long lasting and provide better grip
    - cut away handles are protected by a small cover with a stiffener inside, keeping the handle in place and making stowing the leg wing after deployment much easier
    - rear inside edge of the booties has this cool grippy rubber cuff material that keeps the bootie in place.
    - the adjustable swoop cord is sweet
    - etc

As you would expect the suit is extremely well made using durable high grade materials.

I put the suit on and immediately noted the wider leg stance. The wing tip grippers are simply great, the wrist position feels so natural (not uncomfortable like the S3). The inside of the arm wing is padded so is super comfortable.

On the first flight my exit was not very good but I just focused on maximising my horizontal speed and trying to get the suit flying towards max glide to see what it could do. I chipped a little as I got used to the new body position. The arm wing grippers are surprisingly sensitive, giving you a lot of control over the pitch angle - which feels awesome. After about 20 seconds I got sorted and started flying smooth and fast. The suit flies at quite a low pitch angle and like a missile!

Even though it was my first flight I flew further and opened higher than I have ever done with my S3! The glide performance coming from both increased horizontal and reduced vertical speed.

On the second flight we made a 2 way, I didn't see Robert after the exit and figured he was way higher and ahead of me, I carried on playing with the my body position, concentrating on feeling the lift and air flow over the suit. Towards the end of the flight I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, it was Robert 5m on my right with a huge smile on his face. He tweaked his position and immediately accelerated up and away from me

Arm pressure - not an issue, about the same as S3 but feels easier due to comfortable wrist & gripper position. The leg wing pressure felt slightly more than S3 but not by a great deal.

I have some video of the suit in action that I will post on (edit: see http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1391187;search_string=v-1%20in%20action;#1391187

What else would you like to know?

    Long flights,

  5. I received a copy from my good mate CPoxon (thanks bruvva :)
It is a good read, I finished it in one evening :P

After reading about the objects and gear that these guys jump you will feel like a p*ssy!

Groundrush is still my favorite... but there is also that new book on the history of BASE coming out soon...

  6. A further color option has now been added for the Vampire V-1.

The Dacron is now also available in Royal Blue. Making 3 possibilities Royal Blue / White / Black Dacron.

The website has already been updated with the new option.

For those of you who have already ordered your suit and would to like change* your Dacron color selection to Royal Blue please contact Robert ASAP [email protected]

(* assuming your suit is not already in progress, if it is you can discuss this with Robert in person)

  7. Jason, you win the observation award! ;)

The original photos released were of the prototype V-1 suit. The leg wing design was then modified slightly when the suit went into production.

The video you have seen of the V-1 flying is of the production suit.

    Hope this answers your question.

    Long flights,

    J

Perhaps because there's now less distance between the pc and where the bridle is anchored - ie container pin vs shrivel flap.

    Bingo Gus

(we could do with some YTS guys like you over here :P)

I had a nice PC in tow due to using this configuration. Will see if I can dig out the video.

  9. If you intend to use the leg pouch you will need a longer bridle as the shrivel flap shortens the effective length.

Pilot chute size (for BASE or skydiving) depends on the size (wieght) of canopy it must extract. Seek experienced advice.

IMO avoid hackey handles period. For BASE I prefer an external handle (simple tube) as you can feel immediatley when you have located the PC.

Whatever handle you choose for BASE it must be light. Do a search on this forum and refer to the document "advice for starting Wingsuit BASE"
