Blue Skies to someone who always seemed so positive, to someone who loved and lived life to the max, to someone who's msn name was "Ethan - 120days to go" (til WFFC) which just showed the passion he had for the sport we all love so much. Taken away too young, he will be missed. I hope he is now flying free forever more..... Hmm, let us compare...here the police pick the kids up and take them home...there is NO use of handcuffs I guarentee, they are NOT taken to a police station, or questioned without a parents knowledge. They are taken home, because thats the best place for them, I'm glad you highlighted this, as I think it is a direct comparison with how the USA handles situations, with us the police give the kids a lift home, end of story! THIS is true though, so it is correct in saying the USA adopts a pretty slack grasp of human rights in this area.... I am all for giving a child a bit of a telling off or a scare but in this case, the child was treated like a hardened criminal and I find this unacceptable. The fact that the PUBLIC DEFENDER felt this action was too strict when there was other ways of dealing wiht the situation says alot to me... Do you actually know this for a fact or have any evidence to back up this accusation or are you just making stab in the dark guesses as to what happens under other jurisdictions so as to make your own country seem better? As mentioned above the USA does perform very poorly when compared to other countries on grounds of human rights for children...just something for you to think about maybe... I pity you for genuinely beliving there was any point in arresting THIS 9 year old for THIS offence, which equates to the shock I expressed in my original post. ALTHOUGH I freely admit that maybe the whole story behind her may not have been reported in the article...I was basing my suprise on the facts I was provided with. I can appreciate that possibly the whole story about this child is not known, but to take her away and place her in a juvenile detention centre for an hour before letting her see her mother??? To take her without her parent in a police car, to question her until she cries, seemingly without her mother present. Im pretty damn sure it just WOULDN'T happen in the UK...
