  1. I apologise for the delay in responding to your tips, but I've been out there trying them out. And guess what? Success! I do the harness up in a different sequence to the way I did it before, so the hip rings are now further forward. My new sequence: Chest strap, front laterals, legs straps and finally rear laterals (previously I'd do the rear laterals first, then the leg straps - which must have pulled the hip rings back). So thanks for all your help. Blue skies. Guy
  2. Do any of you experienced Tandem Instructors have any tips for assisting 'students' to get their legs up on landing. Some people seem to have no problem getting their legs up high for sit down landings, and others are hopeless (usually blaming the harness for restricting their movement). It doesn't seem to be an age or gender thing (I accept fitness levels can play a factor). Any tips/views please?
  3. Hi Mac, I just completed my Tandem Rating in the UK this month. You need at least 800 jumps AND at least 8 hours freefall time. Before you attend the Tandem Course you also need to have attended and passed a Tandem Basic Instructor Course or Canopy System Instructor Course (1 week duration cost £150:00). Once you've done this you need a) JAL CLass (pilot) medical cost about £100 b) Tandem packing certificate and c) have done a Tandem (as a student) within the previous 6 months. With all that completed you can then attend the BPA Tandem Course (one week duration, with 9 jumps - 4 with a sack, 5 with a C licenced skydived on the front). Assuming no re-jumps cost will be around £850. Costs don't include travel, accommodation or food.Good luck if you go for it.
  4. I'm considering purchasing a Go Pro HD (as a back up) to my Sony CX105 HD camera. I was wondering if anyone had mixed the footage together from a Go Pro with a Sony Cx105 (or similar camera)? If both are in their highest HD settings are the differences in the edit very noticeable? I was considering using the Go Pro as a 'back up' to the Sony for tandems but thought it might be fun to add variety by splicing the footage (and differing camera angles) together. Views please.
  5. Thanks NW, thats a useful site I had no knowledge of. Its good to see the progressive down trend in incidents in more recent years!
  6. Just wondering if anyone has ever collated the injuries/fatalities from the varying disciplines (CRW, Skysurfing, Freefly etc) to determine which has the highest probability of something going wrong. I appreciate you could'nt take the results to literally due to the numbers of participants (i.e there are more Formation Skydivers than CRW flyers and therefore statistically the incident level for the former must be greater). There are also other factors to consider, like experience level, freak weather conditions etc. I know the insurance industry had a formula for determining risk factors in 'dangerous sports' which was not based on the number of participants (both horse riding and scuba diving came out worse than skydiving.) I'm only curious because most people see CRW dogs as slightly mad, because of the risks of wraps and entanglements, yet the actual injury level in this group seems (to me) very small. Views?
