So that's supposed to be the great sacrifice he made so he could take the weight of our sins, right?

Because if it is, I don't get it. What was the sacrifice?***

While nailed to a cross He, as the sinless God/man, was judged by God for our sins, neutralizing the penalty generated by the sins of all who have lived. Before He died physically , He said " it is finished, into Your Hands I commit My Spirit", indicating that His spiritual sacrifice had been completed, removing the sin barrier between man and God.

"For Christ died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God"

    ...

This makes no sense what so ever... so to put it another way, i have committed a crime (sin), i am on death row, but at the last minute some stranger comes along and takes my place, is killed and i am a free man!!!!! how is that justice, how does that free me of anything?

Lets be realistic, this is an mythical story and depicts the age old blood sacrifice for the appeasement of a wrathful primitive and brutal deity, quick lets toss another virgin into the volcano :S:S:S

Also why am i responsible for the supposed actions of Adam and Eve, who actually never existed in the first place which makes a mockery of the whole concept, but that is beside the point.

Jesus was the son of God, concieved by the Holy Ghosts, and born of the Virgin Mary in the city of Bethleham. He upset the reining figureheads that were in place 2009 years ago and really upset the leaders. They were offended that he was proclaiming to be the son of God. So they killed him. He died so we may have eternal life. His last words while hanging nailed to the cross on Golgatha was "Eli, Eli Lama Thabachthami." "My God, My God Why Hast Thou Foresaken Me?" He was 32 years old when he passed his time on earth, buried in a tomb and rose again 3 days later, ascended into heaven to sit upon the right hand of his Father.

If you don't believe any of what i say here remember this: "Faith Cometh By Hearing, And Hearing Through The Word Of God.

    Fire Away.

    Amen to that

Ah im glad your back, now back to my questions, perhaps between you both you might be able to answer these 2, or perhaps just put your head back in the sand...

"There are about 2.1 billion Christians in the world today, where are the other 4 billion going when they die??????

As a father what if im a Christian however my son decides to choose atheism or perhaps one of the many other religions available, how am I supposed to enjoy my time in heaven when I now my beloved son is eternally burning in a lake of fire???? Will god erase my memory?????? Can you at least answer this one? "

their banning of contraception has NOTHING to do with people dying from AIDS. That was thier fault for commiting the SIN of fornication.

First let’s get one thing straight, it’s can only be considered a sin if they follow your god, and at the last count approx 17.5% of Mozambicans are Catholic, so that leaves 82.5% that are not.

Second there are many contributing factors to the AIDS epidemic in Africa, but the use of condoms will without a doubt assist with the spreading of the disease, which infects about 500 people a day currently. And for the Catholic Church to enforce their dogma on these people is without a doubt helping the disease spread and ultimately killing people. So therefore the Catholic Church is murdering people and to be honest the pope should be held accountable and face a judge and jury.

[Reply] I could answer every one of your items on your biased list

Why is it biased? Are you denying the Crusades ever happened and perhaps the Inquisition was just a fairy tale? So go on repute my comments if you can….

However as I’m sure that will prove too difficult, here are a couple of easy ones, based on this site there are 2.1 billion Christians in the world today, where are the other 4 billion going when they die??????

As a father what if im a Christian however my son decides to choose atheism or perhaps one of the many other religions available, how am I supposed to enjoy my time in heaven when I now my beloved son is eternally burning in a lake of fire???? If Christians are wrong, then when we all die, it is just over, no harm, no foul.

No harm done!!!!... its dumb ass ignorant and stupid comments like that which I think explain how the believers can mindlessly meander their way through life expecting to wake up one day sitting on a cloud playing a harp!!!!!

No harm done!!! tell that to :

    1. The thousands of people dieing of AIDS in africa because the catholic church bans the use of contraception.
    2. All the homosexuals that are persecuted by the church.
    3. All the children that are constantly interfered with by church leaders.
    4. All the people who suffered and were killed in The Crusades
    5. All the people who suffered and were killed by the Inquisition.
    6. All the children who have died because their parents refused them medical treatment on religious grounds; relying instead on faith-healers and prayer.
    7. The millions that have died and suffered in all the Holy wars
    8. All the people that have suffered Slavery, which is supported by scripture ("Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, just as you would obey Christ.", St.Paul, Ephesians 6:5)
    9. The involuntary indoctrination of children into the religion of their parents, giving them an arbitrary, life-long belief that is almost entirely dependent on their place of birth.
    10. The 2,400.000 people killed by the christian god in the bible.. link

I can go on if you like....

    NO HARM DONE!!!!!!!

Oh and by the way the original sin theory of adam and eve must only be symbolic, as we know adam and eve never existed, so your savior Jesus had himself tortured and executed, for a symbolic sin committed by a non-existent individual so that you can now be saved!!!

any way like you said "no harm done hey"

Your view point is certainly one way of looking at the evidence for God.

    What evidence??

    Quote

But as far as I am concerned, I will gladly be a fool for God, than an intellectual with a closed mind

I am afraid it is not us heathen unbelievers that are close minded. Myself I will gladly change my belief and accept the baby jesus into my life when we have evidence to support the mythology. Right now some 2000 years after his alleged life we still do not have a single shred of evidence, no one has found the Holy Grail, The Ark of the covenant, Noahs Ark or in fact any archeological relic that can be linked to the story of Jesus… There is no evidence that prayer works, in fact it has been proven quite clearly to not work. No one can prove unequivocally that any miracles have ever occurred. No one has seen god, and hes is far to busy it would seem to pop down to earth and just say “hi everyone”… people constantly talk about spiritualism and the human soul, but yet no evidence at all there is such a thing…

There are some 22 major religions today to choose from, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Chinese Traditional Religion, Shinto, Rastafarianism, Scientology the list goes on. All with their sacred books and all quite different. But there is one thing they have in common, the complete and utter lack of evidence to support them.

Everyday science it helping us understand more and more about our world, and every day is taking over responsibility once held by the gods. An example would DNA and Molecular Biology is helping us confirm Darwin’s theory of evolution, and at the same time dismissing the re-branded creationism theory of “Intelligent Design”

So im sorry god/gods if you want my tick in the box then stop being so bloody difficult to believe in, SO ME THE MONEY…….

Then how can you explain suffering?

Good question! One I have thought about myself many times. And it appears that suffering is here to stay, for the foreseeable future anyway. Looking back at my own life, it was during the times of the most intense suffering that my awareness and relationship with God dramatically increased. Knowing what I know now, I would gladly relive those periods and I am thankful for them. I believe all things work together for good when you love and trust in God. If God is not a part of your life then all you can hope to gain from suffering is more agony and confusion.

    ...

This is all good and well to you who has been exposed to religion/Christianity. What about the millions of starving people in 3rd world countries who have never heard of your or any god, cant read so will have no idea what is said in the bible.

I really respect everyone's beliefs about God... Most of you that give opinions have not even taken the time to read the Bible and I can tell ( not trying to be disrespectful )

Before we go any further I have read it…

I challenge you to ask God for a proof of his existence and I will guarantee you it will happen.

I have, and he’s not there… however here is a simple test we can all do …

Get down on your knees, put your hands together and repeat after me….

“Dear God, almighty, all-powerful, all-loving creator of the universe, we pray to you to cure every case of cancer on this planet right now, and whilst your at it can you please feed the millions of starving children, and perhaps end war and hatred. We pray in faith, knowing you will bless us as you describe in Matthew 7:7, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 21:21, Mark 11:24, John 14:12-14, Matthew 18:19 and James 5:15-16. And you did say in Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. “
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Let’s check back tomorrow on how Christian god is getting on with this…

  • I thought it was an excellent read, and I agree the involuntary indoctrination of children into there parents religion is utterly disgraceful; children are vulnerable enough with out adults programming them with there own superstitious rubbish.

We don’t send out children to a Labor/Liberal or democratic schools. You ask any parent what there 5/6/7/8 9 year olds political views are and they will explain that they are far you young to understand politics.

I was the same, my parents took me to church every Sunday, and had my baptised etc, and i don’t think it was until i was in my 20s that i was mature enough to fully evaluate religious belief for what it really is, and actually question it, and discover that there is absolutely no evidence what so ever to support any of the mainstream brands of god.

I think certainly a person will be well into there teen years before they are in a position to make an educated decision about there own particular belief systems.

A serious question, do you think he listens to us pray

No, its been tested he failed Miserably.

    In fact

    Matthew 6:5-6
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly

So god tells us he will answer prayer, so hes either a lier, or most likely isnt there...

We know that God allowed sin, becasue the bible says that God created satan to work havoc and destroy,

Rubbish......i would suggest actually reading the bible before making incorrect statements...

    Quote

Are you under the impression that the bible suggests there is more than one God? Then God created everything for his purpose didnt he? But if thats not enough, take Isaiah 54:16-17...

You still haven't bothered to read it all, but just cut and paste some rubbish that you dont really understand.

So let me cut and paste from a post i made in another thread, and hopefully this will spell it out for you..

    Genesis 3: 22
“And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever”

Well, well, well. It appears here that what the devil said was true. God himself says that mankind can now judge right and wrong, knowing good and evil. It seems to me here that Satan was just trying to wake us up from the ignorance God had us in. Which begs the question: Why does god now punish mankind for committing a sin when we don’t know what good or evil is? Sure, he may have told us not to eat the apple, but how could we have understood the implications of this action, since we had no notion of good or evil? If we don’t know how to be good, then we wouldn’t recognize something as evil. Again, evil is defined as something “that is a cause or source of suffering, injury, or destruction”. Well according to the punishment God deals out in the following passages as the result of tasting the apple, that taste could definitely be defined as evil.

    Genesis 3: 16-19
“Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

Well that certainly sounds like suffering to me, and this is just the tip of the iceberg of God’s cruelty to those who sin against him. So because Eve and Adam ate the fruit of the tree, without knowing the difference between right (good) and wrong (evil), Eve’s sorrow will be greatly multiplied, and have sorrowful conception, and serve her husband, and Adam has all of the ground cursed and it will be hard labor for him to grow food.

So to return to our main point of whether or not we can judge God as good or evil, I think it is obvious that we can. All you have to do is read the scripture in which God himself says we know good and evil as he does, “…the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil…” Genesis 3: 22. As a human who knows good and evil, I judge the biblical god to be evil by definition.

Well if God is evil, then what is Satan? Why did God cast Satan out, and what is his punishment? Satan was proud, and rose up against God (Isaiah 15: 13-14, Ezekiel 28: 14-19). Therefore, he is judged, bruised, chained in darkness, and sent to Hell (John 12: 31, John 16: 11, Romans 16:20, Jude 6, 2 Peter 2: 4, Matthew 25: 41). It’s interesting to note that Satan was an angel (Isaiah 14: 12) who was perfect (Ezekiel 29: 15) and beautiful (Ezekiel 28: 17). The angels had free will, as is indicated by the fact that Satan chose to go against God. If he had known the punishment, he would not have had true free will. However, it says nowhere that Satan knew he would be sent to hell for his actions. It is only after he rebels that he is punished. The angels were created before man, and as free moral agents, some revolted against God. Therefore, God made mankind, and made him ignorant of good and evil. We didn’t gain the ability to judge good or evil until after the fall, and then God punished us for doing what he knew we would do(he’s omniscient, remember?). It’s as if God knew that once we realized the difference between good and evil as the angel’s did, we would see him for what he truly is.

Satan led a rebellion against God in Heaven and was cast out for it. Well, since we’ve established that God is evil by definition, wouldn’t fighting against God be considered an act of goodness?
