It's just a fun movie for watching all the eye candy and laughing at jokes. If you want a strong plot and well developed sub plots, or good characterization, or any kind of depth in the storytelling... go to some other film. This one's about action, cool special effects, and laughs. No brain required.

    It was fun.

It was a fun movie but forgettable.

The CGI was top notch with intense action scenes.

I felt the plot could have been better.

The PG-13 rating didn’t help. There were a couple of scenes that were obviously edited to keep the graphic violence to a minimum. My understanding was the movie originally had an R rating. This movie seemed to be held back a bit because of the producers desire to appease the younger audiences.

Starship Troopers had a great mix of CGI & Gore which earned it’s R rating. However, it didn’t do as well at the box office.

    Transformers was a good movie despite it’s shortcomings. I’m sure they’ll have a sequal. I hope it’s rated R.

  2. Hollister & Monterey offer the best altitude. Hollister has a cool group of people and a great landing area. Monterey is nice on weekends with a really fast King Air and nice ocean views.

Hollister is now an "outdoor only" dropzone, so the vibe has changed a lot since last time I was up there. There aren't any couches to crash out on if you want to spend the night[:/]

Both are worth checking out if you can make the drive.

    > or an older Sabre 1 that will knock you silly on opening.

I use a Sabre 1 150, and I've got the openings dialed in pretty good.

IT'S ALL IN THE SLIDER during packing.

    I haven't had a hard opening in a year and a half.
I rigger walked me through how to pack it better.

I was making the mistake of pulling the slider too far out so it wasn't catching the airstream. I now keep the slider in with a good 1/4 pushed in deep, and I roll the tail tight.

It's helped my openings, but I can't speak for other peoples experiences with the Sabre 1.

I guess some Sabre's open hard no matter what you do.

  4. Bump!

I've been listening to this album over and over again and I can honestly say that it's on par with Siamese Dream.

These new songs make me feel like I'm in High School again (I mean that in a good way) Back during the Melon Collie & Infinite Sadness era, those 2 CD's played in my car stereo for almost a year straight!

I saw them in Jan '97 over 10 years ago at the Seattle Key arena and it was the best concert I've ever seen. I can't wait to check them out on their upcoming tour. The tickets will go on sale on July 10th if anyone is interested.

    Go check it out!

Used to be a big Met fan, but wow did that CD blow!

I liked it a lot when it first came out but it seemed to not have the staying power of their previous albums.

I liked St. Anger's total lack of slick production values and commercial influence. It's a heavy album which is more than I can say for the black album or load/reload.

Just listened to it, pretty damn good! Thanks for the link.

I think it's one of their best albums to date and that bass player Ginger Reyes is fucking cute!

A lot of people are bitching about James & Darcy not being in the group but if you look at Siamese Dream, they never even played on that album. It was just Billy & Rich.

I've been trying to find a Flash ripper so I can download these audio files to my ipod.

  7. PG-13 is an abomination.

Hollywood really needs to get rid of this rating. You are either going to make a movie for adults or make a family movie. Stick with PG or R.

Stupid families with their kids in strollers, clogging up the aisles? I think I’ll pass.

  8. Are you swooping 270's?

If not, you can still get more performance out of your canopy.

    I'm on a 150, granted I'm a bit heavier at a 1.4 wingloading but I don't think it's a good idea to downsize just yet.

As far as eliptical canopies, go on youtube or skydivingmovies.com and look at every single linetwist problem that ended in a cut-away. Every single one of these videos is a guy with an eliptical canopy.
    That says alot.

  9. If you pay, it included the license.

Bearshare would get sued so fast if they were selling music without a copyright license. It would be more illegal than giving it away for free!

  10. Just saw SiCKO, and I agree with the critics, it is definitely a great documentary.

***SPOILER*** DON’T READ ANY FURTHER UNLESS YOU’VE ALREADY SEEN THE MOVIE OR DON’T CARE

They trashed Kaiser Permanente badly! It was well deserved.

It blew my mind that Kaiser Permanente would send an old lady to the free clinic in downtown Los Angeles by Taxi (she walked aimlessly in a hospital gown on the streets until someone from the clinic saw her) No phone call, no paperwork, no escort, they didn’t even want the free clinic to know what hospital she came from, so they removed the hospital stickers from her wristbands. That is just cold. It’s like throwing away a piece of trash because they apparently weren’t covered. I would love to hear Kaiser’s explanation to this behavior.

I really liked the ending as well. It had a nice twist when one of Moore’s archrivals can no longer afford to fund an anti-Moore website, because he needed to pay his wife’s medical bills. Moore gave him an anonymous donation to pay the bills and keep the website up.

It kind of reminds me of that old phrase, “keep your friends close, and your enemies closer”

Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts about this movie.

  11. That was a nice letter. If I’d had a dream like that, I would have been in tears after I awoke.

I really hope that others who have been scared away from the sport because of that tragic weekend at Eloy will remember what they love about skydiving and perhaps give it a second chance.

I posted a thread a few weeks ago about my feelings related to Cliff, Tom & Jay. It was the responses I received from other skydivers that helped inspire me to get back in the air.

I hope you can heal from this, and I know it takes time. I do believe that your friend would want you to move past this.

People say that you will feel differently about the sport when you experience an event like this. It’s true, but ironically I don’t feel jaded. I feel better because I’ve seen the worst and I have overcome my fear. It’s given me a sense of peace, like a new chapter has started.

The general public needs to be exposed to more of the fun side of things rather than make skydiving look like the most dangerous thing in the world which it's not.

It is the most dangerous *legal* sport in existence.

If people realized how easy it is to get into skydiving, far more of them would join in, I reckon.

I agree. The nice thing about skydiving is that there is technically no learning curve to overcome when making that first jump. You jump out of the airplane, gravity takes care of the rest. Even if you flail uncontrollably or end up with a cypress fire, you still experienced freefall.

I am also a keen snowboarder. A sport which is definitely not declining in numbers. The reason? It's "cool".
Skydiving needs to regain its "cool" image to promote numbers. Simple.

    The reason is NOT simple.

    1) Snowboarding has a much lower up front cost for gear.

    2) You don’t have to be 18 years old to do it.

    3) Skiing/Snowboarding is highly accessible. When I was growing up, my school had the ski bus every weekend that took us up to the mountains.

    4) Snowboarding is safer than skydiving. How many fatalities have you heard about on the slopes lately?

Skydiving will never be trendy or marketable. Jumping out of a plane is just not considered a vital part of the human experience. It’s too scary, weird and unconventional to obtain mass appeal.

In the future I will demonstrate a better attitude. I really hope to make some friends here.

It’s one thing to be sorry for a particular comment you’ve made about a person or dropzone, but it’s an entirely different problem when you apologize for who you are.

You don’t have to play the royal kiss-ass.

They still won’t like you. Why? because some people are just selfish assholes.

Everything in life is give & take.

You wish to make more friends in the sport. The key to making friends lies in the laws of attraction.

If you grovel for people, it just makes you look worse because they now know that you are willing to act in a manner that appeases them.

This is a form of submission.

Don’t fall into that trap just because you want to “fit in”

Be your own boss and form your own ideas & attitudes about what is right & wrong in this sport. As long as you are not putting people’s safety in jeopardy, you can think & act however way you want.

If the trend continues, and members of the “entitlement generation” are allowed to behave like spoiled children at DZ’s, in 10 to 12 years skydiving will be just a memory.
    [:/]

    Dear Mjosparky,

Didn’t you stop jumping a while ago? If that is the case, why continue to complain about the current state of the sport?

You come from the most spoiled generation in American history, the baby-boomer generation. Yuppies that got everything handed to them on a silver platter.

If you wanted a job, you joined a union and got overtime, benefits and paid vacation. If you wanted a family, you could afford to do it on a single head of household income.

Because of your generation’s greed, my generation “X” will be left with no social security, no health care and no stock portfolio.

Why? because you kept all the wealth for yourselves. You see, that type of greed has a trickledown effect.

The few things that our “entitlement generation” can afford are now in fact 3 times as expensive. Gas, jumptickets, skydiving gear. You name it, it all costs more because someone on the other end wants to get rich.

You all elected a republican president to keep the wealth exclusive to the top 10% and then you complain about how ungrateful WE are?

    ENOUGH SAID.

Am I really doomed to turning my back on something I love so much?

You will go through phases where you will want to jump and other times you won't care at all about skydiving.

I started jumping in August of 2002.

I have tried quitting due to injury, money, seeing people get killed and almost getting impaled by an aircraft flying over the dropzone. I guess I'm still into it.

My best advice is to not burn yourself out. Don't go to the dropzone unless you have an itch to skydive.

There are some great people involved in skydiving that you won’t meet in any other sport. It really is one of the most tightly-knit communities I’ve ever seen.

People quit skydiving because they don’t feel the same attachment. They don’t need to skydive to feel contentment.
Maybe these people have a lot of friends, money and status to keep themselves occupied. It’s too bad because they are missing out on all the great things this sport can offer.

Don't spoil it but was there really a surprise ending?

    Not really.

I also don't quite understand the logic of the "Elite Hunting Club"

Where does the “hunting” take place? The victims are already shackled and immobilized when the client arrives.

Perhaps if the clients took part in the kidnapping, it would be more of an accomplishment.

There is no honor is torturing someone who cannot defend themselves. No prize has been won by these cowards because they risked nothing to acquire them.

Either way, it's just a movie.

  18. Just saw this movie.

It didn’t have the suspense of the first movie, (because you already know about the organization) but it was more gruesome and it actually had a better storyline that was more in depth as to how the organization works.

If you liked the first one, go check it out.
