This Thursday thru Sunday Skydive Chicago will be hosting the Red Bull Wings Qualifier searching for the 16 best canopy pilots in the world to compete in this summer’s annual Red Bull Wings swoop competition on August 1 - August 3, 2003 in Cleveland. “In the past, athlete participation has been by invite only…I know there’s lots of great talent out there and in an attempt to truly find the best canopy pilots we have decided to hold regional qualifiers… the competition at the Red Bull Wings finals is going to be steep,” said Alaska Jon Devore- canopy pilot and this year’s event co-producer. WHAT ARE THE QUALIFIERS? Red Bull Wings qualifiers are a series of skydive swoop competitions designed to find the 16 best canopy pilots in the world and bring them together for a high exposure Championship competition. The top pilots will be determined by their performance during a 6-stop qualifying tour in Florida, Arizona, Texas, Chicago, Idaho and Maine Red Bull Wings qualifiers are set up as a 3-day event at major drop zones around the country.. The daily schedule will be broken down into two parts, the drop zone competition and the finals. Qualifier Event Schedule Day 1 Preliminary rounds begin at 8:00 am Only 20 competitors move to Day 2 Location: Skydive Chicago Day 2 Final rounds begin at 8:00 am Location: Skydive Chicago Award Ceremony Afterparty HOW DOES ONE QUALIFY? All entrants must be a USPA licensed skydiver and pay a $150.00 registration fee which covers all competition jumps, entry fees and access to the after party per tour stop location. At each competition, participating athletes will earn points based on their performance. At the end of the 6-stop qualifying tour points will be tallied and the athletes with the top scores will be invited to the Red Bull Wings Championships. The only other way to be instantly qualified for the finals is to win 1st place in one of the six qualifiers or be one of the top 5 competitors from the 2002 Red Bull – “ Wings Over Chicago” - competition.
