About the riser covers being too hard to open, when I first got my rig and checked it out I thought my covers would never open if I had to deploy my reserve with the main still in place! Henri explained to me that the opening forces were quite expressive :) Naive... Well, thanks a lot.
  3. Thanks for the reply, AggieDave. I haven´t talked to Sunrise Rigging because I´m not sure the riser covers were actually open. That´s why I posted here, to see if it has ever happened to anyone else. Btw, people at Sunrise Rigging have been very helpful every time I needed them. Thanks!
  4. Has anyone ever had their Wings riser cover come open during headdown? I *THINK* I saw mine flapping last time I was doing some solo headdown, but it was near deployment time and I was wearing an Oxygn (full face), so my visibility wasn´t the best. My rig is quite new, has about 60 jumps on it or so and the covers seem quite solid. I don´t have any complains about the rig at all. Has that ever happened to you?
  5. Ideally you won´t need this, but if you do, it´s extremely effective. The canopy balls up around the bridle attachment point and stops dragging you. I got quite a few brushes being dragged around a runway before I was taught that.
  6. Bear in mind I am a sub 100 jump person. This is just my opinion and it´s probably not worth much. Yes it was a cypres fire, this is rather common when people freak out and try to deploy their main as low as that. Cypres expert activation altitude is 750ft AGL, but it is not always very precise (depending on what body position you spend most of your time during freefall and other things. Fore more info go to http://www.cypres-usa.com/cyp13.htm), and this IS to be expected. As it was mentioned, the snivel (the time your canopy spends above your head with the slider still up) also consumes altitude, and that is a very good thing because it avoids too fast deceleration which could hurt you or your canopy. Personally I would have deployed my reserve instead of risking entanglement, but I would like to hear more experienced people thoughts on that. The main thing here is just what you said - altitude awareness. If I caught myself in that situation, being a low timer like I am, I would take a step back and do more 2-ways. As to being under the formation at break off, you do just what you are expected to do, you track away. Usually the cameraflyer deploys in place, I´m sure he was very unease with you sitting under him (suppose there was one). Learn to track well. Ask for some tips on tracking from some experienced guy. A good track you take you above the formation and far enough to deploy safely. Talk to your instructors and to experienced skydivers. I´m unexperienced and you could get killed following my advice. A friend of mine with 1500+ went low the other day and had two canopies out too - just like you - while AFFing someone with a broken altimeter. Look at the ground.
  7. Hi there, a friend of mine dislocated his right shoulder during a solo jump around 1000ft. He turned around and laid on his back, and at 4000ft turned belly to earth and used his reserve. Months later he had surgery and he´s back jumping, no problems so far. Good luck and take good care! Ed
