What if you dont fuck up and still die in a BASE jump?

I'd still want the full details and my name posted. You can do everything right and still die and that's an important lesson too.

I'd prefer to be listed in the second half of the list, peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather....not screaming in terror like his passengers.

  2. 3.5 with the factory closed for half a week of that? Or so James claimed........oh well, it fits like a glove, flies beautifully and looks fantastic.

Yes, Richard, you are very special. As was that opening last night.....Gus, back to the short leash with this one!

  3. I'm just guessing but I think this wonderful story of the triumph of stupidity over Darwinism may be what provoked Mac's little rant

He's going to need a new rig soon. Just cos someone was stupid enough to train him doesn't mean that anyone needs to give him one.

  4. Ladies - did you encounter Steve Such at the boogie? Did that tall (shaved) dorsal fin cut through the water towards you? If yes and you feel able to talk about it now, please fill in the attached questionnaire.

On a more gentlemanly note, Rocket has just spent the weekend at Sibson getting a more realistic taste of European weather - he did manage a couple of jumps though, including him being rodeoed by Holly with Duncan and I filming him from above and 2 people who forgot to put on their wingsuits filming from alongside.

Is it just me being more of a muppet than usual or is Vertical Emotions not on any of these?

From the "8 mm" chapter - "I look for mind at rest and listen out for the simple rhythm...."

Anyone know how I can get a copy? At the moment I'm playing the DVD through the HiFi but I can't get it to fit in the car and I don't have CD-R.

    Cheers, Jules

~by the way, what would happen if you stowed the yonkles on the opposite risers

GB shows us how to do it about 30 seconds into Neil Q's trailer for Dead Air Dummies II

Even though he is seriously underloading his canopy these days there were no obvious problems - deploying at several hundred feet in daylight probably helped!

I wish to hear more compairisons between the S3 and the V1... anyone?

I flew an S3 last summer when I had about 120 GTi jumps and was very current. I did 6 jumps on it and did fantastic times (for me) on it.

The downside was that I was in agony by the end of the day and I found it quite tricky to fly - a bit like riding a barrel.

In February I got my V-1, jumped it while very uncurrent and got even better times and a groundspeed that is just silly. I find it very easy to fly, almost GTi-like, both in terms of stability and fatigue.

However, I am sure that if you wait a bit, the S5 "Random Greek Letter" will be even better, and then the V-2 "SuperFang" will be better than that and then......will the squabbles ever end?

If you want the best wingsuit that you can order today, its a V-1, especially if you intend BASEing it. But what do I know?

    Go here. It's very easy

as long as you live in the US - it didn't like my UK pastcode! What about the rest of us? I don't have a congressman or senator but those of the states with the toys in and the NPS can be written to by us.

Teenage girl 'sleepwalks' up 130ft crane

A teenage sleepwalker has been rescued after being found asleep at the top of a 130ft crane.

Police were called to Underhill Road, Dulwich, south east London after a passer-by spotted the 15-year-old girl curled up on top of a concrete counterweight high above the ground.

The girl, who has not been named, had apparently managed to climb up the crane and walk across a narrow metal beam while fast asleep.

It is believed the girl walked unnoticed out of her home near a building site.

Police and the fire service were called to the scene amid fears she was about to throw herself off but when a firefighter crawled up the crane he found her sleeping.

The rescue operation took two and a half hours and the girl was finally brought down in a hydraulic lift at 4am.

A police spokeswoman said she was taken to hospital for a check-up but was allowed home when she was found to be unharmed.

Irshaad Ebrhim, of the London Sleep Centre, said he had treated people who had driven cars and ridden horses whilst asleep.

He said one patient "even attempted to fly a helicopter".

He said: "Sleepwalking is nothing to do with dreaming because it occurs in a non-dreaming sleep state."

Sleepwalking affects one in ten people at least once in their lives.

Most incidents are short and are not dangerous but it can sometime result in injury.

The vortex street is highly periodic having a frequency which is proportional to U/D, where D is the length of the bluff body measured transverse to the flow and U is the incoming flow speed

Longer delay --> higher airspeed (U)
Longer delay --> smaller PC (D)

Longer delay --> larger f from both factors.

Does this explain why PC oscillations are a major issue at only medium delays? Short delays have a oscillation period that is longer than the opening time and so have no effect and long ones have such a high frequency that nothing actually happens to the large inertial mass of the packjob?

Or am I talking out of my arse again?

Stop getting excited about computers Mac - you can walk outside and find your life again now! Nice work over the weekend though!

Or you could just start using the "Tom's Super Controlled pack job", specially formulated to allow packing in gale force winds.

was that the one with 12 clamps, 2 tent pegs and several bungees? Be warned, Tom has done a secret deal with Home Depot.

I stayed in the Motel 6 last year and managed 19 pack jobs in my room. You can fit (just) if you put a back of one of the luxury padded chairs on the lines just above the links and then flip the container back over the chair. The packing tabs on my 265 Troll just reached the door.

Nice place to stay but the coffee sucks.

  12. Selected highlights from a long post DW made on BLiNC about the Potato Bridge PC-mal fatality:

However we do know that bridles of 5-6 feet in length work well at terminal velocity. This is because the majority of bridles used in skydiving are 5 – 6 feet in length (measured from pin to p/c attachment). The greater the airspeed, the longer the burble that trails behind a human body. By this logic we could surmise that a bridle of less than 5-6 feet in length would clear the burble and work at sub-terminal airspeeds (if it had enough snatch force to open the container).

According to various sources, the average human body in a box position at terminal velocity will generate no more than 5 feet of burble. The length of the burble decreases at lower airspeeds. Turbulence wake extends further than the burble however pilot chutes do not have a history of failing to inflate in turbulence wake (as seen in skydiving).

  13. Even with these short delays the effect is different for different jumpers.

On two occasions I have counted as Gus (6'4" tall and about 25kg) has exited before me, got to 4 and a bit and started whincing (ok, I'll be honest, smiling) in anticipation before it opens and he's met me in the landing area walking normally and wondering what the fuss is about.

Why don't you just check it in?

7 day BASE trip to South Africa, 5 days with no checked-in luggage. Fortunately I had my rig as carry-on.

Never had any problems doing this (travelling in Europe, US and SA on US and European carriers) and I now put my skydiving rig in my stash bag as carry-on when I take that abroad.

I have (accidently) taken hook knives, both Jack-the-Ripper and little ones, through security without comment.

    Floors: 160+
    Height: 800+

What are the units on the height you gave?

800 somethings/ 160 floors = 5 somethings per floor. Lets hope its metres not feet or access is going to be painful!
